I'm just bored, and thinking about this, felt like posting it. Feel free to respond to both my post and the question.
I think The Empire Strikes Back is the best of the Star Wars OT (all of them, for that matter).
The Empire Strikes back may be the perfect sequel. More action-oriented than the original, it manages to not only top the sequences from A New Hope (asteroid field especially, also Hoth), it still concentrates on developing the characters, and does it well, along with introducing a lot of new characters (Yoda, Fett, Lando, Piett), and yet still manages to save the big smack in the face until the end -- "Luke, I am your father."
The dialogue in Empire is my favorite. The entire asteroid chase sequence is tense, action-packed, and funny at the same time. The moment Han and Leia share on the Falcon is tender and well-done. Luke's journey is dramatic and important, without being cheesy or overdone. Lots of little touches, like the back of Vader's head, an admiral's hologram being obliterated in the middle of a transmission in the asteroid field, the carbon-freezing chamber, and more, all help immerse the viewer completely into the world of Star Wars, one that was barely touched on in Hope and seemed confined to familiar areas in Jedi.
I love The Empire Strikes Back. It's easily one of my favorite movies ever, and I think it is the best of the OT Star Wars films.
What do you think?

i agree ESB is the best Star Wars film followed by ROTJ. I always loved The Battle of Hoth. It's a really cool action scene. ESB also gives me my favorite character, Yoda! And the quote " I am your father" went down in pop culture history. Simply the best Star Wars film period.

ESB by far for me. Although that could be because I am a huge fan of darker films . . .

This is a hard one for me. ROTJ and ESB are close. I may have to say ROTJ b/c i love the struggle Vader goes through. BUt then again the Ewoks hurts ROTJ, so it may be ESB for me. I guess ill have to go with ROTJ though.
BTW, TORNADO your avitar is awsome. Where did you get it? And is that a pic of Anakin from ep:3 next to Vader (kinda hard to make out)?

This is hard for me too. I love them all! But I guess I would say overall it is ESB. But ANH holds a special place in my heart, for the first time I ever saw SW and became completely hooked. They all have outstanding qualities.

Oh, I forgot.
My reasoning for ranking the other two lower:
A New Hope is a great movie, with great characters, but something about it feels stunted because it was a movie made unsure of whether or not the following two chapters would get made. The end battle is dramatic, but it's not as layered as the drama in ESB, where you know more, and you care more.
RotJ is also good, but I feel that RotJ is left tying up loose ends. Little can be introduced and added to, because the movie has the job of completing the series. Also, the characters are rooted in one location throughout a considerable portion of the movie, and even Luke, the one to leave, goes to a place where he also remains for much of the film.
ANH and ROTJ are both well-rounded, carefully crafted films, and they have good acting, drama and action. I would say ANH if I was asked to pick the better paced and more intense of the remaining two films, but I would say that ROTJ has the most impact on the characters and story, simply because it is the conclusion.
But ESB rises above both of these, by being the most innovative, interesting, and important of the three OT Star Wars films.

The best of the OT is almost certainly ESB. But to be totally honest I have to say ROTJ is my favourite, purely because it was the 1st Star Wars film I ever saw as a kid and the only one I ever saw for years (until someone finally bought me the other 2 on video). I also think it has the best action scenes in and for someone reason I don't particularly hate the Ewoks.
I was really pi$$ed off when ANH and ESB came joint top in Channel 4's top 100 movies of all time, whereas ROTJ didn't even make it into the list.

I like it too. It is from theforce.net. I was just surfing around their message boards when I stumbled upon it.

question: What does OT stand for?

Old Trilogy.
My pick is A New Hope.
I can't believe no one else had it as their favorite, and as the best... BECAUSE IT IS!!! I mean, the Mos Eisley Cantina, the cowboy aspects, the space fights, the DEATH STAR!!! What's there not to like?

answer: OT stands for Original Trilogy. Meaning Episodes 4, 5, and 6. :)

gee, Droidguy has sumed it up very well,
ESB gets my vote, just to add Dagobah sequence was cool. My favourate scene would have to be just before Han is incased in Carbonite on cloud city.
Followed by ANH then ROTJ.

I love the emperor ranting so much in ROTJ at the end, it almost makes me pick it.
"you want this dont you" and so forth,
but i will follow the herd and say ESB

Star Wars Episode VI - Return of the Jedi is my favourite from the old trilogy and overall. It's just got some great moments in. I love the fight on the sail barge, and just after they pick up the droids, there's that great big explosion of the barge, with all the debris flying out at towards the camera. I love the part when Luke's hiding in shadows and Darth Vader's taunting him about turning his twin sister to the dark side, and then Luke just goes ape and starts hacking away at Darth Vader. I love the redemption of Darth Vader at the end when he picks up the Emperor.
But I think the two best moments of ROTJ are when the Millennium Falcon shoots out of the Death Star, and Lando lets out a big yee haa, as he narrowly escapes the exploding space station. And a great feel good moment is when you see the spirits of Yoda, Anakin and Obi Wan, and then the group gathers around for that final pose in front of the camera, then cut straight to the credits with John Williams excellent score blasting out.

I don't need to say it, but I feel like it...
More moments that hopefully are not changed or altered when the movies arrive on DVD.

I like ANH and ESB equally
ANH for the way it made me feel - it pulled a wide range of emotions. granted I will always ask the question why a farm boy was chosen to lead a run on the Death Star instead of one of the more experienced pilots - but that's just me (not trying to start a riot here) - I left the theater thinking WOW!
ESB for the intense action sequences (Hoth, asteroids, Vader and Luke, etc) and great dialogue -
Leia: Would it help if I got out and pushed?
Han: It might.
I even loved how the falcon was attached to the Star Destroyer.
I left the theater thinking "WTF - what about Han?" but the entire move was a rollercoaster ride of goodness.
