From US Weekly:
It's official: Bennifer is over. Us Weekly
has learned exclusively that Ben Affleck
and Jennifer Lopez broke up on January
20, three days after Affleck returned to
Los Angeles from the Sundance Film
Festival. The decision was mutual.
Sources close to the couple tell Us that
in recent weeks the 18-month-long
relationship had begun unraveling. The
clean-living Lopez had grown increasingly
frustrated, sources had said earlier, with
Affleck's behavior, which had included a
notorious visit to a Vancouver strip club
last summer and frequent visits to casinos.
One other reason for the split, a source
says, was the 34-year-old Lopez's desire
to marry and have a baby, something that
Affleck, 31, was not ready to commit to;
another factor was Lopez's displeasure with
photographs taken on January 10 of Affleck
partying with pal Matt Damon and a group
of young women in a Berlin, Germany,
nightclub. "She was tired of waiting for
him to come around," a source says.
A spokesperson for Jennifer Lopez
confirmed the split to Us. "I am confirming
the report that Jennifer Lopez has ended
her engagement to Ben Affleck," the rep
told Us. "At this difficult time, we ask that
you respect her privacy." A rep for
Affleck declined to comment.
Lopez, her famous 6.1-carat Harry Winston
engagement ring no longer on her finger,
spent her first night as a newly single
woman having a two-hour dinner with
business advisers at the West Hollywood
restaurant Morton's. "She was laughing
and talking the entire night," an eyewitness
tells Us. "She looked more relieved than
upset." Affleck, meanwhile, spent his first
night as Lopez's ex-fiance gambling with a
group of friends at an L.A.-area casino until
5 a.m. "Ben looked really, really tired,"
says a source. "He looked down."
When asked this morning by an Us reporter
in Los Angeles to discuss the breakup,
Affleck declined to comment. Instead,
the actor shrugged his shoulders and said,
"Sorry, you understand," and walked away.
The couple postponed their highly
anticipated September 2003 wedding just
four days before they were to wed in a
lavish ceremony in Santa Barbara, California.
