Even though our Brit hero drinks gin, hw must have enjoyed a little vodka in "From Russia with Love."
What is your favorite kind of vodka??

No Vodka for me (terrible in my taste). I'd drink, well you guessed it, Jack Daniels. But if with a more refined taste, I'd drink Sake.

Here's the recipe from webtender.com
Vodka Martini
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz Vodka
3/4 oz Dry Vermouth
1 Olive
Mixing instructions:
Shake the vodka and vermouth together with a number of ice cubes, strain into a cocktail glass, add the olive and serve.
Creator/contributor's comments:
This is the martini that James Bond drinks in the books and films. (Although he drinks it somewhat drier than this - more Vodka, less Vermouth).

I thought it was Absolut in TND, then he switched to another brand? Maybe not...
Anyway....I wanna try a Chocolate Martini from Applebees! :D

He drinks Smirnoff in Tomorrow Never Dies.
It's my favorite too.
Vodka shots for me!

I cannot think of an instance where James drinks Gin... I thought it was always Vodka Martini shaken, not stirred.

In a Vodka-Martini, yes. In a classic Martini, no. A martini was traditionally made with gin, dry vermouth and olives (or lemon twists). Vodka martinis are typically "dry" -- ie, the vodka-vermouth ratio is 6:1 or greater.
[edit: early martinis sometimes included sweet vermouth and (orange) bitters]
Use of vodka in martinis is attributed to a rather heavy advertising campaign by Smirnoff after WW2. Plus the dearth of British gins (the best, IMO) for a few years after the War.
I'm not much of a Vodka drinker, myself. I haven't tried Grey Goose, but Ketal One is pretty decent. It does make a good dry vodka martini.
Myself, I prefer gin. And gin-based martinis.

In the movies, yes (I think). Not quite so in the books. His drinks are more varied. And he does drink gin martinis. He and Leiter have Gordon's in Thunderball.

Haha... "If James drank Vodka"
Must not know that world-famous quote:
"Vodka martini. Shaken, not stirred."

Does anyone else think of the Smirnoff Vodka adverts when you read the title of this thread. The ones where at the end of the advert it says: If Smirnoff made... autocues.

As I mentioned above, Ketal One is pretty good. Very smooth. As with gin, don't sell yourself short with cheap stuff. I'm not a vodka drinker, but I was quit amazed at how good (and smooth) the quality stuff was. Especially when chilled in the freezer.
For folks who may be interested in gin ... I'd recommend Plymouth. It's a bit different from other british gins, but it is quite good. From what I've read, it was a favorite (before WW-2 KOed it) of Roosevelt, Churchill ... and Ian Fleming.
