The Matrix: something completely new, and totally revolutionary
Star Wars, Episode I came out. The first of the new trilogy. I remember all the hype, and how much money it made. Good times.
Isnt that when Titanic came out too? Despite the fact that Leo was in it, it was pretty good.

No mention of "American Beauty," "The Sixth Sense," or "Being John Malkovich" yet?
Also, I loved "The Insider," "The Talented Mr. Ripley," "Princess Mononoke," "Toy Story 2," "The Matrix," and I'm sure there's a lot more that I'm forgetting as well.

I remember in 1999 how I got pissed off everytime I turned on the radio and had to listen to freakin' Ricky Martin and "Livin' La Vida Loca." I cringe everytime I hear that damn song!

1999. Great year for movies IMHO. Goodbye Stanley, Eyes Wide Shut controversy. Summer had big hits. SW was all over the damn place, The Matrix subculture was created, Mike Myers made everyone say "yeah, baby" for the next year or two, and people were doing the whole "I see dead people" and I'm so scared" bits. Some great animated flicks. South Park BL&U was a blast, The Iron Giant was terrific, and probably the last of Disney's summer blockbusters, Tarzan. Then winter came. Sleepy Hollow, more 007, Stuart Little, The Green Mile, and Toy Story 2. It'd be a bit more time before I saw Being John Malkovich, Fight Club, The Straight Story, Magnolia, and The Insider. All in all a great year for movies.

lol... I need to read the entire thread before I post... I just thought it was the 90's in general...
Anywho, Dark City was the best of '98. Plus that crappy Psycho remake came out. Hitch should come back from the grave and charge him for crappy plagerism for that one.

Yeah, that version of Psycho sucked big time. The worst thing about that remake was that Gus Van Sant didn't even try to take a different approach to the material. He just created a shamless replica of a classic. There was absolutely zero creativity on display, and please.. Anne Heche as Janet Leigh? Blasphemy!!!

Yeah typically, everyone in my Elementary school were over those things like hotcakes. Not me though...
Wasn't there an explosion of school shootings around this time? I remember the one in Jonesboro, AR happened on my birthday in '98, and then Columbine in '99 I think. Stupid kids...stupid parents...
Eric Draven

Yeah. After that people blamed movies like the Matrix for "inspiring" those kids to go on a rampage.

I think we've got the point that the matrix was in 1999.
