I don't wanna post the rest of my DVD's, but for Christmas I got The Grinch ( ), National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Pearl Harbor, The Godfather Trilogy, and Rocky 25th Anniversary. I only wanted the Godfather and Rocky, I got the other ones as gifts.

I have about 70 or so last time I counted. A good but modest collection. Now I'm not listing them all here, but a few of my favorites are:

The Rock: Criterion Collection
A Knight's Tale
Office Space
Jurassic Park 1-3 (2 was shakey)
The EVEN numbered Star Trek movies, and all the next generation ones.
The Negotiator
American Beauty
Reservoir Dogs
Tombstone (Vista Series)
and A WIDE variety of Monty Python DVDs

Now I have some friends that buy DVD's just for the sake of it.

They'll buy a new DVD release and I'll say "I didn't realize you liked that movie."
...and they will say "I've never seen it but I heard the DVD had a lot of extra features and cool interactive menus."
...and I'll think "You retard.".

What is the point of that? They'd be better of spending their money on a stripper. I know 3 different people that all do this!!! I just got Tombstone and Pie 2. The next DVD I plan on buying is Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (funniest movie ever!) and Star Trek: TNG Season 1, but other than those, I don't see anything listed in the definite list on this site that I plan on buying. I just didn't like any of them enough. (Back to the Future isn't listed yet, and I REALLY wish UHF would be released on DVD.)

I see some movies and I think, "That was a pretty good movie, but I wouldn't buy it on DVD." I have to REALLY like a movie to buy it on DVD, so thus, the collection of 70 or so that I have is a collection that I think defines my movie tastes, and not a random collection of newly released crap with some extra footage.

Anyone with me on this?!?!?

I agree with you, my movie collection really reflects my taste in movies. I don't buy movies unless I know that I am really going to like them. And the few times I bought a movie and didn't like it (ex: Basic Instinct) I took the movie back and exchanged it for a different movie.

We had it in theaters last summer I think. And the DVD hit markets Oct-Nov or something like that. I bought it in Jan. The DVD has the coolest scene selection menu I`ve ever seen. Scenes are hanging from a rope like drying cloths and the scene is being played, it`s not just a still image. It also has a featurette, but nothing else, which sucks. But then again it`s the first DVD ever made in Serbia with Serbian menus, and all...so I had to get it.

The growth of my collection is going to slow down considerably for right now, I have pretty much everything that I want. Plus I just bought a new TV and need to get that paid off. In March though, AI and Roshoman come out, so I will have more to buy then.

Movies, and movie collecting are the only hobby I indulge in. As of now I have nearly 500. I use two of the Sony 300 disc changers uplinked. (I've got around 125 Laserdiscs too, if anyone remembers that format!)

Do I like all of the movies? Nope. But I do entertain often in the theater and like to have most movies available so my family and friends can see whatever they want. I don't think, IMHO, it is a requirement that you must really love each disc you own.

Personal collections that I do enjoy are Imax films and Criterion films.

I buy a copy for a friend's birthday or Christmas present, and buy one for myself at the same time, because I don't own it yet. Then it turns out that they own the movie already, and they let me keep it. But Best Buy has this thing about movies that you bought, but opened. They won't give you a refund. I usually end up selling them cheap, but with a few of the better movies (especially Akira) I keep all my extras, so that when I lend out the movies, I can still watch them when I want.

Ooh.. that explains it. Thereīs nothing really special about that "special" edition of Full Metal Jacket. Itīs just the movie AND the soundtrack for the movie AND NOTHING ELSE! (except maybe a trailer, yahoo! ) I have the 2001: A Space Odyssey "Special Edition", which only includes the film and the movie. It cost me about 55 dollars, but I bought it because I love the movie so much.

That is how you get an illegal DVD, otherwise, it would not be illegal!

Generally, the pre-release DVDs are Screener copies, which do not have any features, only the movie. They are intended to be used by those screening the movie, hence the obvious name. Just go buy the movie when it comes out.

I'd disagree with ip_guru assumption of turning yourself into a theif.

Why would you want to keep paying Ģ5 (or however much that is in America) to watch a film when you can get it on DVD? - ALL the films I've got on Region 0 DVDs I've seen at the cinema, and some of them, in particular the BTTF trilogy aren't availible on DVD yet.

Oh, and just to answer the question that N-Slice
posted - different DVDs contain different extras - for instance the Rat Race and 51st State DVDs contain the exact same extras as the retail DVDs,where as the other ones simply contain (besides the film) trailers, photo galleries and documentries on the film (btw, the FOTR making of is excellent)

</strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">That logic is flawed from the very start. And, other than this post, I'm not going to argue this, as over the years I have found that nearly 100% of the people who do this simply cannot understand that the reason they use is flawed.

So, your reason for stealing what you call "an illegal DVD" is because you don't want to pay for something that you can steal for cheap/free. And, yet to you that is not being a thief. Hmmm, let's review.
1. A company creates a legitimate product.
2. To acquire that product legally from the company requires you to: a) wait for the product to be produced for the market, b) earn the money to purchase the product, and c) actually buy the product.
3. You, however, have decided that you do not wish to follow number 2, so you have acquired an "illegal" copy of the product.

So you got something that did not belong to you, and that you did not have the right to acquire. How is this not stealing? How is that not being a thief?

You may not want to admit it to yourself, but that is what you are. Every thief has some justification for their actions, but that justification hardly ever is valid enough to grant that person the right to steal what someone else created.

If you respond with an intelligent reason and discussion, I may be back around. But history shows that will not be coming...

Not that I particluarly feel the need to gratify my actions to you ip_guru but you seem to have some kind of a "thief esque" reasoning for your comments. My final comments on this would be:

ALL of the Region 0 DVDs that I have I've seen at the cinemas AT LEAST ONCE.

Of all of those DVDs I fully intend to purchase liegitmate copies of all of them, once they're released on DVD, except The 51st State and Rat Race

Finally, take a look at the number of actual DVDs I own (which is actually about 30 DVDs out of date but that's beside the point), you'll notice that a lot of them are imports (the non Region 2 ones), surely if someone is going to spend the amount of money that's required to buy the 250+ legitimate DVDs that I've brought within the last 9 months they'd also be willing to buy authorised DVDs when they're released?

ALL of the Region 0 DVDs that I have I've seen at the cinemas AT LEAST ONCE.

Of all of those DVDs I fully intend to purchase liegitmate copies of all of them, once they're released on DVD, except The 51st State and Rat Race

Finally, take a look at the number of actual DVDs I own (which is actually about 30 DVDs out of date but that's beside the point), you'll notice that a lot of them are imports (the non Region 2 ones), surely if someone is going to spend the amount of money that's required to buy the 250+ legitimate DVDs that I've brought within the last 9 months they'd also be willing to buy authorised DVDs when they're released?</strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Of course, there is no need to justify anything to me, or anyone else. This is a conversation, nothing more, nothing less. It is just that any kind of electronic piracy is a sore spot to me, as it is related to my profession.

However, the intentions are irrelavant. For example, what if I own say a BMW 5 series, and I have for a few years. I have paid for the car, and I own it outright. I have seen the newer 5 and like it, so I go and test drive it. I really like it, and not only do I think I will buy it, I know for sure I will. So, I just drive off with it.

Or, there is a book you like. You have read it in the past, but your copy got ruined somehow. You like this book alot, and you are going to buy it. So, you go to the store and take a copy, with every intention of paying for it later.

My point is, no matter what the situation is, no matter what the intentions are, and, no matter what you have bought in tha past or intend to buy in the future, if you take it now, illegally, that is theft.

This is not personal, as neither you not I will likely ever meet each other. It is merely a difference of opinion.

I have no intention of trying to change your opinion. However, discussion is the point of these boards, and open conversation is always good...

What's pathetic is that my sister just downloaded LOTR onto her computer. The qaulity is perfect, like that of a DVD. How do people get away with this stuff?

Well ,there`s another side of the medal. As you know, I live in Serbia, which had wars, embargos, all sorts of things of the sort. This has caused

a)foreign markets to close
b)people`s standard to drop dramatically

What I`m saying is that legal films and cds were

a)impossible to find - we had no legal copies of Braveheart (which is a film I hate, but still a huge film) and Savin private Ryan, to name a few

b)even if you could find them, they were expensive as hell.

So, as much as maybe ideologically I`m against piracy, if I were forced to buy original movies, cds and video games, I wouldn`t have a single movie, cd, or video game, simply because I wouldn`t be able to afford it. The corporation wouldn`t get my money either way.

I have picked up Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, AI, and The One since I last posted my list. That brings my count up to 59. 60, 61, and 62 are going to be Roshoman, Clerks, and the Akira Kurosawa PBS special.

Sure... itīs based on actual events, regarding the first ever occurence of SPAM E-mails.
The story takes place several years ago, and the bad guy (played by Jean-Claude Van Damme, in his best role to-date. This role actually garned him his first ever academy award nomination! But, sadly, he didnīt win :( ) is writing hundreds and hundreds of SPAM E-Mails, all starting with Deer Sir (or Madam, depending which sex itīs being sent to)... Some cop (played by, you guessed it, Dolph Lundgren) has had enough of this useless garbage, so he decides to hunt this spam-spreading evil guy, and so - in effect - he becomes "The Deer Hunter".
Really? No, not really... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

hi, this is my first post! I LOVE DVDs!! YAY!

I listed all my DVD's on my web site with the cover art of the DVD cases.

My favorite DVDs are Sci Fi TV shows like Farscape, V, Buffy and Doctor Who, classic 60's british horror films, cheesy teen movies and big summer special effects blockbuster movies.

The Doctor Who DVDs are amazing as far as extras go, I wish the Farscape or Stargate DVD's had half as many extras. if you are a Sci Fi fan and not into Doctor Who, then you aren't a Sci Fi fan! I also hope the Battlestar Galactiva episodes come out on DVD soon!!

oh, anyway, here's the link to my DVD list :)

Iīve just ordered the complete RoboCop trilogy box, The Limey, Lawrence of Arabia, Armageddon (okay, the movie sucks, but itīs a great DVD), Groundhog Day SE, The Man Who Wasnīt There, Pitch Black, The Third Man, Interview with the Vampire, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and The Iron Giant on the net. After nearly 2 years of contemplating on whether or not I should get it (It was a bit costly, but has since declined in price), I got the T2 Ultimate Edition DVD. This came about when I rewatched the movie over the weekend (on VHS) and was horrified by its presentation. I was really in the mood for a film that'd blow my ears apart. But the VHS has a wealth of fuzz in the background. So I just picked up the DVD today. :D ...18!

It is a really messed up movie, and I didn't like it until I got to the end and it all kind of fell into place. Who was who, and what was really going on. Very strange, but I enjoyed it.

I rented three more movies Wed. A Beautiful Mind (great movie), Heist (big let down), and Muskateer (haven't watched yet). I am planning on renting State and Main next time.

Iīve always enjoyed David Lynchīs work. And I donīt think that heīs made any instantly-likable films (aside from "The Elephant Man" and "The Straight Story" perhaps, which definetely were more accessible than the rest of his films. I especially thought that TSS was too sweet and very "un-lynchian"), youīve just got to see them a couple of times.

I just ordered a new one online:

68. Ran - Akira Kurosawa

I finally had the money and was finally able to order it. I believe that I now have all of Kurosawa's films that are available on DVD.

Well in a sense yes.

One is the Russel Crowe, Ridley Scott epic from 2000. The other stars James Marshall and Cuba Gooding Jr from 1992 about an underground boxing club.

So title wise i do, but they are two different films.

Anyway, i'm trying to assemble them on a website, so if you want to check them out, click me (http://mitglied.lycos.de/nachtflug/). It's not completly done yet, but you might get an impression of what i'm after...

I'm an European collector, trying very hard to get the best of "both worlds". What do you think of my collection?

Its not a great film but very enjoyable, i liked it alot. James Marshall is very good and the fight scenes are not like Rocky, they are believable and you have Brian Denehy as the bad guy who does a convincing job. Check it out.

It's easier this way, in stead of typing down everything.

It's not a whole lot, but enough for a 17-year old, dvd's aren't cheap or anything...:)

Another 3 movies added to my collection, The Back To The Future Trilogy box, I live in Holland, is it already for sale in America??

I don't how much it costs over there, but here the box is only 24.64 euro's, which is $ 23.9425

A department store in holland has them on sale for 29 euro's and with a card that I own there's an extra 15% discount.

Also, the cover of the dvd here is way cooler then the american one, the american cover is blue right? with the picture of the movieposter on the front?

See here http://www.dvdprofiler.com/mycollection.asp?alias=d1 for my collection, BTTF included, and see how our cover looks like.

(the picture of the BTTF box is a picture of the box in Norway, that's why the titel is in a foreign language, but the box over here looks the same in every way accept for the titel, the titel here is Back to the Future of course..)

I bought the BTTF trilogy more than a month ago on DVD. I bought the Australian R4 edition of it, which has the same extras as the R2 Norweigan DVD you have.

I like the R1 cover art. It's classier than the Int'l. It sticks with the movies while the int'l looks like it was engineered impress and look cool.

:D You call that a start? I only have 18 since I started in '99. I really have to get more. My collection's getting pretty damn boring. If only I wasn't a cheap-o who always second-guesses before I make my trip to the register. ;)
