Some of them also have deleted scenes, extended takes, actors´ screentests (including Pierce Brosnan and Sam Neil´s screentests for "The Living Daylights"!). Yes, it´s R2 only. In the U.S. the series has been divided in three DVD boxsets.

It seems like R2 people get better DVDs than R1. You guys have what seems to be an excellent RoboCop set, an awesome Bond set, and you still get a Black Hawk Down: Special Edition. I need to find whos in charge of R1 material and slap him upside the head.

You count SEASON-releases as more than 1 disc? I have the 1st and 2nd seasons of SIMPSONS, the 1st and 2nd seasons of FUTURAMA, seasons 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, and much more, and I count all of them as ONE DVD, because they´re all just ONE release. Otherwise I must have more than 300 DVD`s, not 255.

Finding bootled dvd's in a big city isn't all that hard. I don't think the cops even care. I doubt that it rates up there with murder and drugs and all of that. My understanding is, is that bootlegs don't have all the extras like an official release would. But I'd personally not like to be there when they do bust someone, so I don't partake. Plus I just wouldn't feel right doing it.

I don't condemn or condone fake copies but a friend who went to Hong Kong during the summer, brought some fake DVDs back.

I found that copies of recent movies (ones that are still in theatres) are either advanced screening copies or camcorder-recorded from theatre and usually just contain the movie with little to no features (sometimes the bootleggers add on the trailer and cast info).

Copies of movies which are already out on DVD are usually exact copies of the DVD and contain all the same features of their legitimate counter-parts.

off course you dont get bonus' in fake dvds... you do get the trailer and commentaries you already saw on internet ... but if there is a movie i didnt get to see and its out of theaters or i saw and the dvd comes out in a long time (harry potter, lotr) i buy bootlegs .... its only 5$ and i get perfect quality not video camera in a theater crap version ...

Just because you choose to only purchase DVDs that you truly LOVE, does not mean all people do. The main question is why to purchase DVDs in the first place. If you purchase only the ones you enjoy, that's fine. I purchase many more than what I truly enjoy because I do a lot of entertaining, and I want the options there for my guests, and second I love to study movies, good and bad.

So, just because I have over 700 DVDs, and many are not of movies I truly love, this does not have any relationship to my integrity or level of intelligence of movies. It would be very easy, in fact, to argue the exact inverse position.

I think you're confusing "bad" with "not masterpieces".

I admit Beverly Hills Cop II, Encino Man, Ghostbusters 2, and What About Bob? are pretty bad, but all the others you listed are good movies. Especially Ave Ventura and Men in Black. Just because a movie didn't get unanimous 5/5's by all the critics doesn't make it bad.

Maybe I'm a little harsh on Ace Ventura, which isn't too bad and I could see how some would like MIB (If you had MIB2 on your list I'd go ballistic). But gimme a break, Sphere? Volcano? Joy Ride? They were below mediocre.

LOL. Have you even seen BotW? Its cinematography is astounding and it beats 90% of your list there. I bought the 3 disc edition because the special features had some of the most in-depth coverage behind the scenes of the design process which goes into making a movie. (I would say that only LotR: FotR 4 Disc EE had more last year)

Yes, I have. Of the twenty-plus independent pictures I saw last year, it was the worst. I expect that kind of crap from American cinema, but that was in my bottom 20 of the year, and I saw 153 2002 releases. I admit the cinematography was good, as were the lighting and costumes. And the first 15 or 20 minutes were interesting. But then it alternated between being boring and crappy, and even movies like Men in Black II, which also sucked, weren't boring. They were simply crappy.

Good camera angles and lighting does not a good movie make. If I want a good period-piece-monster-movie, I'll stick with Interview with a Vampire.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for Christmas movies. Guilty as charged. I think I read somewhere that a new edition of A Christmas Story is in the works. I hope it's true.

I also like variety. I guess I got that from my mother. She would take us to a monster movie one week, a western the next, and then next time it would be a serious drama. That's why I'll probably end up with a couple hundred movies.

I generally like Bill Murray. But he has made some turkeys.

When I found out about this movie I was psyched. Williams + Norton + Devito + Dark Comedy + Barney Bashing = Awesome?

I saw it on opening night. I was extremely disappointed and almost walked out of the theatre (I didn't tho to see if the ending could redeem the movie, which it didn't). The acting was fine (Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad but one could have expected better with such a great cast) but the problem was the script. The jokes weren't funny, the plot lacked depth and the characters were flat.

Like, I understand it wasn't Fight Club, or Requiem or Memento or anything, but it was original. And how did the plot have no depth?? Sure it did. We got some TV veteran, a kids show host, who's an evil, monet grubbing industry ******* in real life. He slips up and they replace him with a genuine, good hearted person. It shows what the industry can be like to these kind of people, all while bringing in other issues; Selling out, the power of media, the whole Nazi thing, and then there's a romance beneath all that, plus it makes us question how the industry is run, especially the one directed at children. And the Barney paralell wasn't accidental.

And as for funny, you got Robin Willaims in his 1st deliciously dark role, and he's the king of improv!!

Lines like, "You shouldn't eat all that junk food, it's abd for your chi."
"Oh, i don't eat Vietnemese food, but thank-you."

Or "Sorry I smell like piss, you know how it is."

"When I lived here there was a picture of a naked woman. Very tasteful, no bush. Not a picture of my fu&king mother!!!"

First off I should mention if anything I went in biased in favor of the movie. Edward Norton is amongst my TOP 3 fav actors and I've been a huge Robin Williams fan since I was a kid and saw him in Toys. I really wanted more than anything for the movie to kick @$$. And even I admit it was original.

The problem I had with it was the plot. It did lack depth and was contrived. You know your stretching for laughs when you have Barney show up at a Nazi convention or when he pulls out penis cookies. The acting was average. Norton seemed bored and Williams looked like he was trying too hard, like if he was bailing water out of a sinking ship. John Stewart and Catherine Keener's talent were wasted in pointless roles.

I even rented the movie a couple of months ago to give it a second chance. No dice.

I'm glad you enjoyed the movie and as I say, to each their own.

I think you had to be kid to like Toys. I saw it as an adult and thought it was the worst piece of nonsense that I had ever seen up to that point. I guess it was meant for kids and not adults.

The first thing I saw him in that told me he was going to be as funny as he was in Mork and Mindy was The Survivors. I couldn't stand Popeye or The World According to Garp. The former movie almost killed his career before it began.

Insider, do you use a DVD changer, or all singles? The new Sony 301 disc changers are quite nice. I currently have one of the new ones, and an older one. Only thing is, the menus don't have the option to link together. But, it is nice to have all the discs ready to go and loaded...

Yyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeessssssssss!!!!!!! Just got the original STAR WARS trilogy on bootleg DVD, in actually-not-that-shabby quality. ROTJ is actually encoded anamorphic! :eek: :) Not up to normal DVD standards, sure... but certainly much better than VHS. But I´m not counting them as part of my DVD collection, since they´re bootleg DVDs of course, so I still "only" have 308 DVDs.

not a bad collection Madness! Death to Smoochy was 1 of the greatest comedies of the year! its too bad that it didnt do well in the theatres.
but for any dvd collection to be great, it needs atleast 3 al pacino films, like Heat, Dog Day Afternoon, Glengarry Glen Ross, Godfather I, II, III,, Scarface, Carlito's Way, Scent of a Woman, or Serpico.

Just come across this thread, and I thought 50 or 60 DVD's was a lot, but I'm amazed at how many some people have got!

Just 2 questions, 1. are you all loaded (at £15-£20 for a new release in the UK there's no way I could afford anywhere near that many), 2. where d'you find the time to watch them all? It took me nearly a month to watch all of FOTR: EE. :o

Oh, and as I only got my own DVD player this week, I must have the smallest collection on the board with a grand total of 1 - LOTR:FOTR EE. :D

I make the time, man :) Some of the DVDs I haven´t seen in a long time, but I´ve seen all of them at least once, and most of the extras on all of my discs. But most of them I´ve seen twice or more, otherwise I´d consider it a waste of money.
Sometimes I have trouble prioritizing... :) (i.e. having to do other stuff, but wind up watching DVDs instead). Although, if you knew my age, I´d would give you a better sense as to why I have (almost) enough time to watch them all.

Oh, and just bought "The Fast and the Furious - Collector´s Edition" today, so now I´m at 395. Okay, it may not be the best movie ever, but I haven´t seen it before, and the DVD is just awesome. :)

I agree w/ you I don't know why people would count DVD's like that. It seems that if I did that I would have almost 50 more DVD's w/ Double Disc sets and TV Shows

Nothing personal, but that should count as one DVD. The only box sets that could even be justified as counting as more than one is like a Back to the Future box set, which could count as three movies (but not 4 DVD's if it were a 4 disc set.)

Don´t bother tyler, Boods (like some other) persist in counting DVD season-boxsets as several DVDs (instead of as single individual releases), making their "total-DVD-amount" seem larger than it really is :)
