This is a thread using UK stuff in it:
The PSX will have 2 versions. A 160 Gb one, and a 250 Gb one.
The 160 one will cost about £600 in the UK (this is including the entire cost of production for Europes machines. The price increases by around 30%). The gaming sites also say it'll cost closer to £600 in the UK.
The 250 will be between 600 - 700.
Very pricey.
Someone else can post more details. My advice though is:
Don't buy it if you already have a DVD player, TV Tuner or PS2. If you don't have any of these, or REALLY REALLY want this, then i advise you to invest.
Oh yeah - the Japanese release is this year.
Also, only compatible with PS2 games and PS1, not PS3

You are joking about the price I hope?
£600-700!!!
I was expecting a price range of around half that, £300-400 max, seriously. I thought that was pretty steep (although perhaps about right given the h/w), but double that amount is frankly ridiculous IMO.
I know Fanible and I have our differences on this and he totally disagrees with me (though I can't be bothered turning this into another argument thread because we both know our opinions on the matter) I'd be interested on knowing his thoughts on the matter of price though, if that is accurate.

I'm not lying - this is the complete truth.
I estimate this:
160 Gb: £550 - £650
250 Gb: £700 - £800

So the prices are estimates??

Err - sorta.
Sony gave Japanese prices, but for the UK, there is only estimates.
If you convert the Japanese prices over, and have the 30% increase which is always done, it does end up within those estimates

It may come in at around £500-600 in the UK then, which is still way OTT IMO.

Yeh - the 160Gb one is £432. BUT you have to include 30% more, for the UK price.

True about the inflated uk price, but its £432 if you went to buy it in Japan.
If you want to buy a straight bog standard HDD DVD recorder in the U.K today it will cost you £300 at the cheapest.

Ok, jpdill, I must insit that you stop posting your theories.
A consol will never get off the ground at those prices. There's no way in hell they'd sell the PSX at that prices. Sony would lose MILLIONS.

1) PSX is not a console. It's made by the main Sony people, and it contains a PS2 in it. It's a home entertainment system
It's a DVD player, hard-disk Satellitle recieving device that costs alot - basically EVERYTHING a home cinema has in one.
2) All the gaming sites said "Between £500 - 600 for 160Gb" and the other one. So don't say "your theories" when they're not
3) If it was a console, why the hell is "Games" right at the end of its interface (i've seen the video of the device in action).
AND if it's a console, why is the playstation at the back of the console?

I think jpdill has been a little OTT with his estimates of the pricings. In the UK we do tend to get a bit of a poor deal when it comes to such costs, but in the US, realistically I think they would be looking at a price range for the 2 versions between $750-$900.

Read www.gamesradar.com
find the article, and then read it.

in terms of consoles you can usually do a straight 1 for 1 swap with the pound/dollar conversion. So if it costs a thousand in the U.S it will cost a thousand pounds in the u.k.
Ofcourse I dont know if tehy have confirmed they will release it ouside of japan yet.

They haven't.
If it flops in Japan, it won't be released here in the West

When the PS2 was announced, it was said that it would cost $600, based on the estimate of the cost in yen.
By the time it was released in the US, the price was halved.

Yeh - but they found cheaper ways of making the product, and had the abilty to lower the prices cos' of Japanese sales and stuff.
Well the US will get PSX cheaper than the UK (most likely, but our NGCs were alot cheaper). The original esitmates are meant to be accurate.
They're not my estimatesanyway. Don't bite my neck off for them.
