Glancing down the 'Movie's Coming Soon' forum just now, I can't help but feel how depressing things have become in the world of film these past few years. :(

Of the 25 threads on the first page, half of them, the following 12 threads, caught my attention:

A Mary Poppins Remake?
scary movie 3
Pirates of the Carribean 2
True Lies 2
Terminator 4
Bigger Trouble in Little China
Arnie not in Terminator 4
The Ring 2 release date announced
Austin Powers?
Karate Kid Part 5
Freddy vs. Jason
No American Pie 4 ??

Is all this a sign that a) Hollywood has lost it imagination b) The studios are being runs more and more by accountants c) Hollywood has become lazy d) all of the above.

d) all of the above. movies are becoming more and more unoriginal and more and more uninspired.

The problem is that it takes a much bigger investment to make a movie today, so you have to createa movie that you know has a lot of good potential to make that 100million back.

Once Hollywood gets the point that big budget doesn't mean big return, they should start being original again. But this means that the average film consumer has to have interest in movies that don't necissarily have huge budgets.

People like Kevin Smith, Danny Boyle etc. have shown that small budgets can make good original movies. We just need a few more of them and a few production companies willing to make the movies.

Hollywood is stupid, and the american public is stupid. The american public won't pay money to see a movie, unless you blow up and sink a super tanker, or something

People have been saying this for the past 20 years. There is nothing new about remakes/sequels/ripoffs/homages.....

I've said it once and I'll say it again, I just don't care.

Don't see them if you don't wanto. We DO still get original movies, a couple or few each year. Kill all the sequels and we'll just have less movies, and thats all.

So literally, it's just a matter of caring. There's no sense in debating or argueing about how stupid Hollywood is. It's just to throw things at you, and sometimes you even get a good thing. Deliverance or whatever.

Bring em on! I can take em!

Lower the ticket prices. Then people may take a chance watching something that they haven't already seen (ie. sequels/remakes). Then Hollywod may be more willing to make more original movies
