According to TLC, Mike Newell has officially been tapped to direct GoF.
For those of you unfamiliar with the name, he directed Four Weddings & A Funeral, Donnie Brasco and Pushing Tin, among others.
I'm not sure what to make of it... those are completely different subjects/genres than Potter.
(FW&aF and Pushing Tin are good movies...never seen Donnie Brasco)

A 4th one should not be made IMO...stop when its good before things get out of hand...

one should be made, i does seem like quite a bit, and it could get out of hand.....but if they can pull it off, why shouldn't they? if they don't i won't have a chance to try to be an extra

I've never heard of Mike Newell.I have never heard of the movies he's directed,But from the titles it doesn't sound like he has directed movies that don't have much to do with the same subject as harry potter.I wish Micheal Cuaron could do the 4th movie. He's a really good director.I hope Newell is just as good as Cuaron.

Starphoenix:I think Columbus is a great director. But he said he was too tired doing the movies.Though he is still producer.

Donnie Brasco was pretty good IMO, iI think it is good they are getting new directors. A different vision is always a good thing when the subject is the same.

For those of you not familiar with it, I highly suggest watching Four Weddings and a Funeral. Great movie. It's a British romantic comedy.
It was the breakout movie for both Hugh Grant and Kristin Scott Thomas.
Also has Charlotte Coleman, who I would have thought would be perfect for Tonks - but alas, Coleman died a couple years ago.
Also has Andie MacDowell, but I think she was the one weak spot in the movie. She can't act to save her life.
Several of the actors could neatly fit into roles in HP4.
(Oh, and Rowan Atkinson is in it, too. As usual, he is hilarious)
Pushing Tin is a black comedy, with Billy Bob Thorton, Angelina Jolie, John Cusack and Cate Blanchett in the main roles.

You know in the opening scene, when Hugh realizes he's running late, and he says the "F" word about 10 or so times?? It was done because they wanted an "R" rating. (can't remember if it was the producer or director that said it, but they claimed since they didn't have the money to do a car chase scene (or the need because that wouldn't have fit the plot) they just had him cuss his head off.) :)
Was Charlotte the girl that played his friend that had the funny hair? I loved her character. I'm sorry she died. How did it happen? And Rowan is *brilliant* performing the ceremony!!!!!
What do you make of this guy doing HP4? I've got to say again I'm pretty worried. I loved 4w&af, but man... could you *get* any different to HP??? I don't like them changing directors too often. I don't want them getting funny ideas, trying to put "their" stamp on it. Do you know if JK has final approval of the directors chosen? Did she like Cuaron too??

didn't know about the "R" rating thing. Charlotte was his roommate (yeah, the one with the funny red hair). She apparently had a severe asthma attack. I didn't even know about it until about a month ago (she died in November 2001)
Still not quite sure about him directing HP4. Cuaron, I believe, Rowling is happy about. Apparently she REALLY liked A Little Princess.

It's nothing compared to it, because it's a completely different genre. If you are saying it's nothing compared to HP based on quality, I hate to say it, but you are sadly mistaken. Then again, I think one has to be a bit older to really appreciate FW&aF.

i cant believe how many ppl havent seen four weddings and a funeral. One of the best romantic comedies.
Mike Newell sounds as though he wants to do all different types of genres and by the look of his record he's done some pretty good movies. I dont know how ppl can doubt his ability at this stage.

GOF starts next April, so i'm guessing that we should know if it will be one or two movies pretty soon? Hopefully!

i am old well kinda. Harry Potter is a great marvel of the 1990's and the new millenuim. and it is great on quality there is nothing i would change about it, but it is nothing compared to TLOTR's or JP, but harry potter is a great films and book adaptation, notjing like FWAAF, where it is utter S**T

Well, when I say older, I meant older than that. Meaning around 25+
When I was 19, I might have thought it sucked, too.

I think GOF could be a bit iffy, especially since they are serously considering recasting the characters, and want the film to be done as one...........might be scary?!?
