I was looking over Dark Horizons and I happen to come across this

Mary Poppins: The LA Sun Times reports that Queen Latifah is up for the lead role in a Disney remake of the classic Julie Andrews movie.

Why the hell do they need to remake this? I could go for a Willy Wonka Remake but this is absoulty Pathetic!

That really doesn't seem like a good idea, in my opinion. I remember seeing the first original version with Julie Andrews when I was so little, and honestly, it's a classic and I just don't think a remake would work. Julie Andrews is Mary Poppins in my mind, I just don't want to picture anyone else as that character...

Another low for Disney. Walt would take his name away from the company if he was alive and saw what they were doing. Then they'd have to name it "Eisner Land." I mean, Jesus Christ, Queen Latifah as Mary Poppins? If you're gonna rape a classic, at least cast a respectable actress in the title role.

lol NO! Lady poppins with julie andrews(?) and Dick van dyke rules.

Is the The LA Sun Times one of these parody papers like the onion?

Queen Latifah is meant to be starring in an american "taxi" remake (the french taxi not the other one) which is also bad news imo.

Why do they have to ruin every classic?

They should not do a remake of mary poppins, that would be a bad thing to do.

They need to remake Wizard of Oz. I think ive said that a dozen times. Of all the remakes that end up happening, this one is overdue.

They did make The Wiz back in the 70's. ;)

some remakes of classic are good especially if they are based on a book, because whoever remakes it can go back to the book as well, but in this case that would be bad. some movies are to much of a classic to be remade, such as, gone with the wind, even though it is based on a book.

No! This movie is a classic and should not be messed with in anyway! "Surrender Dorothy", starring Drew Barrymore, is in the works and that is BAD ENOUGH! Neither the remake or the sequel should happen!

Just wait for the proposed remake of 'Passport to Pimlico' - 'relocated' to the Bronx and starring Eddie Murphy - trust me

What a racist comment. Basically you're saying that in order for a movie to have a black person in it, it has to be set in the Bronx.
So maybe we should have the "Dukes Of Hazzard" movie set in
cob county Georgia or something so white trash like you can have something to do besides watching your black and white TV in your trailer while scratching your nuts and eating your Hungry Man TV dinner.

Huh? - I think you got the wrong end of the stick my friend - my comment was about the inappropriateness of the whole idea - not the colour of anyone's skin.

I really have read such a proposal, maybe it wasn't Murphy - but it was a black actor and the setting was proposed as the Bronx - please don't go chucking accusations around about my personal views over race etc or making gross assumptions as to my ideologies - that way lies bigotry.

Wish I could remember where I saw the item - but as another example that the studio execs aren't above this sort of thing consider a similar proposal for a remake of 'Kind Hearts and Coronets' starring Will Smith and Robin Williams.

Yeah, the ideas are probably all exec BS and (hopefully) will never see the light of day (...hopefully...) - but it's not me who's coming up with these ideas. Have you even seen 'Passport to Pimlico'?

Maybe you should turn your venom on the execs?

And I don't appreciate being called 'racist' or 'white trash' - now get off your soapbox.

There's no need for personal attacks when you want to state an opinion.

I think a Mary Poppins could work with Queen Latifah. They would just have to make it diffrent from the original film

No movie is safe anymore. Nothing is sacred, and the remakes and sequels will continue as long as there are dollars to be made.

Having said that - who cares if they remake Mary Poppins. Hell, put Mary-Kate and Ashley in as a siamese twin Mary Poppins.

The original will always be a classic IMO and no remake could usurp it regardless of how good or bad it is.
