Of course he didnt have a beard. He was able to shave it everyday while he was on the run. :rolleyes:

i thought JKR described sirius as having a beard when harry heard about sirius escaping azkaban at the start of PoA.

Ya, i thought that he would look a bit different, but i still have an image of him from the book in my head. And i didn't think that Peter P.(wormtail) would like he does either. And what about Prof. Lupin he doesn't look like what i expected. I don't no. Maybe they will look better on film rather than a picture. And i still wonder who is going to be CHO...

I never pictured Siruis having a beard... well one not quite that 'big', I always had him portrayed looking like Johnny Depp... He could really pull off the deadish looking eyes... He'd be perfect, he's got the pale skin, looks good with messy hair (lol)... Oh I only wish...

Hey! I've seen Sirius' picture/drawing in HP book 5!!! :D He's got no beard guys! He do has long hair but no beard, no sir! ;)

how long is his hair? In the books its to his elbows but Ive never seen a pic with him with hair that long.

I think the hair on the actor is down to his shoulders. I recently re-read the book, loking for character descriptions, and found no evidence of a beard. Still, Sirius is supposed to look quite horrible, with a skull-like face, yellowish teeth and matted, elbow-length hair. No surprise here after 12 yrs of Azkaban (at my office, where there are some HP fans, when somebody shows up in the morning with an evidence of a particularly entertaining night written all over their face, we say: Oh my, you look as if you just got out of Azkaban!). So, a beard on Mr. Oldman does make sense. I also liked his tired look. I had imagined Sirius differently, but I think Gary will do a terrific job. The tattos are what worries me. Hell, I had never imagined my Sirius with gaol tattoos all over him! This kind of sucks.

The tattoos sound good, most people coming out of prison have gotten a tattoo in there. I know Oldman will do good, he can portray the dark and the light side.

Ok, I understand Cureon is walking down a different path, but giving Sirius tattoos in order to give him some kind of "street cred" I find a little on the weird side. ;)
But you are correct about inmates. My hubby is an 18 yr. vet with the Dept. of Corrections, and he agreed that that was a fair assessment. And while it's very common for them to leave *our* prisons with ink, that kind of blows my image of Azkaban. It's not like Sirius was given yard time or anything. :p
btw, I think Oldman is going to kick some serious butt in this movie. He can play dark and intense, very very well.

But I still hate the tattos - how on earth was he supposed to have gotten them in Azkaban? Did dementors give them to him..? Or had he gotten them before? Or perhaps is it connected with the animagus transformation? This would make sense, but neither McGonnagall nor James have any, as far as I could see.

I think the tattoos are similiar to the dark mark that the death eaters have. You know the skull with the snakes coming out od the mouth. I guess I am biased because I have tattoos. No I didn't get them in jail either.

Maybe they were done to him when he entered. To identify him in case he escaped or something.

This would make them a sort of branding. Still, this could probably magically removed easily. I guess the tattoos are there to make him look more scary (I don't thnk the actor has them). I hope they explain this innovation in a a satisfactory way...

Oldman doesnt have those tattoo's (he's got better taste than that), but i dont think they make him look any scarier. To me its all about the way sirius is perceived by the magical world not his appearance.

Now *that's* an interesting idea. I hadn't thought about it that way. It was kind of hard to see what the tattoo was going to look like. If I recall correctly, there seemed to be a large dark mark down the center of his chest. Hopefully they're going to show more pic's, so we can get a better look.

no problems, I think the http://www.thesnitch.co.uk/ website has it in their gallery, it's a photo of Alan Rickman (great actor), Rupert Grint, and Gary Oldman (Gary... a great villian actor). Gary is in costume, the other two aren't... I have no idea who the others are, proberly just fans asking for a photo and having good luck on their side.......
