Has anyone heard of this film???? This looks like it's going to be something, and that something is good.
In innocent stranger arrives in a small american town in the Rocky Mountains in the 1930s and overturns the preconceptions of its inhabitants about human nature.
It stars Nicole Kidman, Stellan Skarsgård, Chloë Sevigny, Paul Bettany and more! This is a big cast. All I know about this is that it is filmed in a big soundstage where the sets are all 'open' to the outside and that it will be made into a trilogy.
Anyone??

It's a great film. I gave it 5/6 when I reviewed it for the website filmz.dk (although, the review isn't in English, so it wouldn't do you much good). It's highly original, inventive, fascinating and - as with all Trier films - very uncomfortable and shattering. Nicole Kidman has never been better.

2004? Damn! I saw it over here several months ago! Anyway, as with most of Trier's films, the movie starts off and becomes increasingly uncomfortable on an emotional level as time goes by. Without giving too much away, the way that the people surrounding Grace (Nicole Kidman's character) act towards her, and Grace's futile attempts to handle the increasingly difficult situations that arise, makes for hard viewing.

2004 yeah I know too bad eh? And another thing is that it is still TBA no official date yet! :( anyway, the movie sounds very good......and intense......another thing....did the soundstage add anything to the film, meaning was it neccesarry to the story??? and have you heard about the Confession Booth...what is it?? I've been hearing that it's a documentary of some sort...do you have a link of where i can see that???

The trailer for Dogville showed some shots from the "Confession Booth". I believe you can find a link to that trailer here on CS. There's a documentary about "Dogville" called "Dogville Confessions" which feature lots of these clips, but, to my knowledge, this documentary has only been released in Denmark.
The incredible soundstage-'look' of the film worked magnificently. The most impressive thing about the whole deal though, was the sound. Birds... the wind... doors shutting and closing... the sounds that appeared in the movie actually made Dogville feel like a real city. Very impressive work. You never forget that it's a soundstage, but it never distracts either, and it serves the story well.
I loved this film! Amazing.

My goodness! Both of you are very lucky. I just hope that it will come out soon, so I can finally watch the movie....I have so many questions........another one is the running time. I've been hearing that it's 177 minutes!!! (2H 57M!!) and there was a shorter version of if about 2 Hours.....which one's did you see??? and what scenes were cut out....did the story change in anyway?????

I saw the 177-minute-version, which is the only true version of the film. The shortened version was only released in Italy, I believe.
