anyone knows anything about it, the specs, release date or something, I heard in EGM that's going to be released in 2005

The only news that Sony has given, is that they're expecting, or atleast hoping for a 2005 release.

Thats the only information you're gonna get, as they have probably either just started it, or are just starting it. Meaning they themselves probably don't have any specs for it, nor looks. And you can't make a release date so far in advance.

And I think the only game officially announced to come out with it as of now is GTA4... which will be designed to meet the new systems high specs and graphics. Makes sense, having a top seller game be released with a popular company's new system. The sales will be amazing.

Expect Microsoft to try to pump out something with the same specs or better in a year or so after it's release, or sooner if they can manage. I wouldn't be suprised if they try to manage a soon released system close to the same date as Sony, as to not make the mistake they did last time, which was to release their system for quite sometime after Sony's. The result was a large sum of sales less than Sony from current owners, also resulting in more gaming companies signing on for PS2, producing a much greater game library. So expect Microsoft to try to make a close release to Sony if possible.

Nintendo has also stated in EGM that they learned their mistake and will have their next console ready for the PS3. Personally, I think it is a mistake because both the Cube and Xbox are better consoles than PS2--possibly because they had more time to develop the consoles. I've had problems with the dvd player of my PS2 that the Xbox doesn't seem to have.

As far as console specific news on the PS3, i've heard that Sony is using a Cell processor--which developers are saying that is very difficult to program for, much like the big N's N64 programming compared to playstation's programming. Apparantly, this new technology allows power not being used by the sound chip to go to graphics or processing. This will also be a great benefit for LAN gaming. I've also heard that the next GTA will make it onto the PS3. The biggest downside to me is the new pricing for games on next generation consoles, as developers claim that larger videogaming budgets are needed. According to Q in EGM, the next generation of games should cost between 60 and 70 US bills.

IMO Sony's easy to program system's (ps1 & 2) made it a huge success for developers and consumers alike. If they are coming out with a hard to program system, they will be shooting theirselves in the foot like Nintendo did on their previous console. It's doubtful that I will buy a PS3 unless they keep some of the exclusives they have now. The exlusives on any console is what really sells the product. Currently my PS2 is sitting beside my Xbox and Cube collecting dust :(

Yeah I pretty much agree. The only thing keeping me up for PS2 is the large selection of games, and signed on game companies. It's selection makes in my opinion the best system. Also if you buy PS2's now, the DVD player works better than first released systems.

The PSX is their answer for it though. The PSX was what they were wanting to do with PS2, but once learned of new systems on the way, and having it also right between them and the before-it's-time Dreamcast, they decided to release PS2 early, with specs less than expected. Much less actually. Descriptions of games and whatnot, and what they were suppose to do and perform, while still impressive, were not to the level described.

PS3, through the time and relaxation they're spending on it should be better, with the visualisation of what was prior described to what we now can see we didn't get... and im hoping they'll pull it off. And GTA4 is enough reason for me to buy the system upon it's release.... immediatly.

That doesn't sound impressive, better than the SNES and Xbox combined? Well i'd still probably check it out =P

Anyways, it's specs were suppose to be better than that, but there's not much info on it. The only info seems to be that it's more like just a small PC. There was rumors that it would show up at this years E3, but it never happened. So it's still mainly a mystery for now.

And as of now, there's even speculation on wether or not it'll even be released.

Anyways, you can just check out the new PC, the Frag Box, from Falcon Northwest, the creators of populer gaming PC creations such as the VoodooPC and Alienware. It's really small, and you can take it anywhere. It has nice specs as well, considering the very small space. Pretty much what'd you get with the Phantom system... from what descriptions are anyway.

Xbox continues till micro$oft loses enough money to die.

But after the middle disaster with the first xbox, they'll have an even bigger one with the 2.0 version. I don't think they learned much from their faults... Micro$oft isn't a company that tries to be innovative or better with ideas than the others, they think money rules the world...

It's totally a fake. They don't even have a model yet, and they certainly wouldn't release what they would probably make it look like this early.

The Xbox had a lot of fake pictures as well. None of the console companies release their new system's pics until very near the release date.

Chances are it was just fan art that they put in EGM. GMR had topic on PS3 a few issues back and it had their own art of what it would look like as well. I think even PSM has done the same thing as well.

One of the many risks that come with the great console wars, my friend. :) But you pretty much hit the nail on the head-it always seems that when a new system comes along, competitors have to up the ante and go the distance to outdo their competitors, and somewhere along the line, no matter what system is on top, the game companies laugh all the way to the bank.

That first PS3 pic had a lot of people convinced for awhile. It wasn't until Sony announced that it was fake that it was dismissed.

PSX Is just Sony's version of a X-Box .. but still kinda lagging ... Anyways I'll just stick with my X-Box seeing as Microsoft did say that they had no intentions of making a X-Box 2 and would just continue making upgrades for the X-Box .. :)

Yeah but the thing is the PS2,PSX and X-Box arent only Videogame-systems...they are entertainment systems...Which is much more appealing IMO..knowing that i get a DVD player and a console in 1 thing is better then knowing im getting just a console...

Integration is the way to go.

I want a mobile phone that play games, keeps addresses etc, surfs the internet, takes photos, plays mp3s, serves as an answering machine and takes calls. The same applys to the box under my tv.

Sony etc should provide a box that plays games, dvds, music and possibly records of the tv - I want as few boxes under the tv as possible.

Nvidia CEO Jen-Sun Huang has been reported as saying its PlayStation 3 GPU will be completed "later on" this year. The comments were made this week to investment firm Mogan Stanley.
"I have every expectation that we will be able to see final production silicon later on in the year," said Huang. "This next generation architecture took several hundred people several years to build, but this specific implementation of that architecture should take about 50 engineers. It's something we're running full throttle on."

While Microsoft and Nintendo have announced plans to unveil their next-generation consoles at E3Expo next May, Huang's comments indicate Sony is still not planning to launch the PlayStation 3 until at least 2006.

Nvidia rival ATI, which provided the GameCube's GPU, will be providing the graphics chip for Xbox 2.

Huang also said the PS3 GPU "is not about the PC at all," reflecting Sony's long-held aim of branching console architecture away from personal computers, a move it started with the PlayStation 2.

The PlayStation 3 GPU will be manufactured by plants operated by Sony and Toshiba and will utilise next-generation GeForce technology, work on which Gameplanet's recent visit to Nvidia's US headquarters revealled is well underway."

Official Playstation 2 mag had a column saying that we shouldnt expect it till early/late 2006

but hopefully we are going to start to get some concretei nfo soon :D
