Bravo is airing both Boy Meets Boy and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, now AMC has a new show called Gay Hollywood. All that and Will & Grace make for a lot of gay shows.

What's with so many?! Hey I'm not homophobic so let's not go there!

I would just say that Network Executives are just more comfortable with the idea of gay characters and tv shows ever since Ellen DeGeneres.

Marketers are starting to realize that the gay community is a profitable consumer sector. Today's society provides greater tolerance than even 10 years ago, so capitalism is cashing in on this change. The shows you're seeing now are simply giving viewers what they want.

It's a combination of tolerance and also a touch of the "freak show" mentality. Please understand that I'm not a homophobe by any means, so don't misinterpret this. The truth is, though, a lot of people get a kick out of watching how gays act among each other, and that's how it shares the same mentality as watching a "freak show." People are seeing something they're not used to, something a bit out of the ordinary, and they find it amusing. When people hear the premise of Boy Meets Boy, the knee-jerk reaction is "HAHAH!! Gays guys dating each other! Let's check this out... ought to be funny!" And because it's now acceptable to show this, networks are taking advantage of it.

Its cool to be gay. Sure that isn't really PC, but the world has never been more tolerant. Look at Canada they are legalizing same sex marriages. It's starting to be too much when every show has a gay friend. Its not unique anymore.

Seemingly every american sitcom has to have a gay character in it nowdays - and its always the same "uber-gay" stereotype character, which is getting very anoying.

The funny thing is they were probably included for PC reasons - and then they make them all prance about carying pink poodles called fifi.

i dont get the whole idea of queer eye for the straight guy, why the hell would the guys girlfriend want her boyfriend to be more gay? if he was gay he wouldnt be with her, so maybe shes trying to get rid of him without having to break up with him?

The show is actually pretty damn funny. Have you actually watched it, because the point of the show isn't to turn a straight guy into a gay guy. Rather, they help a clueless straight guy figure out how to stop looking like a friggin slob. Having some style and sophistication as a man is actually attractive to a lot of women - imagine that!

Miasma

Yeah, I like "Queer Eye" too. The people do come out looking BETTER, not GAYER (just made that word up.) Being straight is not synonomous with being a slob... you can have a clean apartment, a decent haircut, and nice clothes without being gay.

Did you see the Queer Eye People on Jay Leno?

slinger
08-18-2003, 11:25 PM
Well Letterman was a rerun, but to me it seemed like an act. Like it could be straight people acting gay with the stereotypes. They have a poll vote for the 'Gay Set' or 'Old Set' and they'll keep it.

I watched it for the first time ever last night and that was the one I seen. I've seen some clips of it before but I never thought about watching it because it's on some channel I never heard of (I live in the UK) and I thought it was hilarious when Jay had to go to the beauty parlour to get a facial

At first I was thinking that too but when I actually watch it, that point was off my mind, they were actually gay. You have to watch it, you know when you watch it.

The gripe about Gay Shows........sigh
- So why is TV currently overflooded with Reality TV shows?
- The popularity of ABC's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire started a surge of Game Shows...
- Oprah, Donahue, Sally Jessy Raphael, Jerry Springer battled it out in the Talk Show Arena...

With the popularity of Queer Eye of course TV channels will quickly jump on the bandwagon.
If Gay TV is not your thing, fine thats kewl. But with some of these replies I have read suggesting that being gay is wrong, you are sliding into an area that original threader is NOT directly talking about.

Whats gay about boy meets world?

sunflower03
08-21-2003, 03:51 AM
he doesn't mean boy meets world, they mean boy meets boy, as in it is a dating show. i think you confused it with that show they show on disney, and that used to be on abc.

I think the show is great. From my point of view, single, there are some guys out there who need help. I see nothing wrong with a guy getting a facial or updating their wardrobe. MSN recently had an article about the new type of man. He is called a "Metrosexual". Basically he is a man who is in-touch with his feminine side, goes to spas and knows how to dress and treat a lady. A renassiance man. There are some women out there who like that, I for one. But finding one is very difficult.

What the hell is wrong with being gay? Don't disrspect what people feel. I'm sure girls loving girls turns you on easily. If you don't like it so much get a girlfriend and get laid so you don't have to complain about "how gays are against family."

There is nothing wrong with being homosexual, they are human just like us. They do have feeling too, so when you say anything you should consider about what you are going to say. You can hurt other's feeling.

He treats them like a different species or something. Some people just have different preferences than others. What's the big deal.

im not a gay basher, but all these shows do is show the world the same gay stereotype, and say that straight guys are pigs who cant dress themselves to "fit a womans needs" on their own.
