View Full Version : If FOTR is green and TTT is brown/red, what color is ROTK?

The boxes for the Extended Edition DVDs sort of represent the feeling of a film with a color. Fellowship was green, and Two Towers was a brownish red. I think that those colors fit those two movies perfectly. What color do you think Return of the King should be?

I haven't read the book, but from the preview I would say white or black. But I think they'll go with a dark blue for the EE DVD.

Also, while I'm here I'll save board space and ask which version of FOTR you prefer. Most will probably say the EE, but I prefer the Theatrical cut. I feel that it flows better, has a much better opening, and it was the version that I fell in love with. Though I wish the gift-giving scene would have been in the Theatrical cut.

The set of LOTR books I own have FOTR as a green cover, TTT as a blue cover, and ROTK as a red cover. I think the EE's shoulda gone with that color scheme. I think red is a pretty regal color, and it fits in with the story, IMO.

There have been pictures on the web showing that TTT is going to be a reddish-brown. Something like mahogany I think.

Aha! Just as I expected. TORN has reported that the official color for ROTK is..... BLUE!

Should have used blue or gray for TTT, and saved the red for ROTK. But we've had this argument before, so let's put a rest to it now...

Gold was my choice for ROTK......gold like a crown

BLUE!!!

What the hell are the thinking!? I know it's only the colour of the cover, not very important, but Blue!

Green was the obvious colour for FOTR, blue was the obvious colour for TTT (and matched the hue of much of the movie), and red for ROTK (ie siege of Gondor/BOTF, flames, blood, Mount Doom, Mordor sky, Kingly regalia etc).

A disappointment IMHO. :(

and by the way i prefer the EE by far

My only gripe about this is how they did the limited edition soundtrack colors. It's going to be completely inverted from the Extended Editions
I mean, Fellowship is Red, TTT is blue, and therefore ROTK is going to be green. So no matter how you put the soundtracks next to the EE DVD's, it isn't going to look right.
minor thing though :p

I would like to see gray, for Gollum, but that won't happen.

Probably blue.

the TTT cover is gross-looking. It's almost pink.

I immediately picture a steely blue color when I think of ROTK...perfect for me!

hmmm, another person with colour calibration monitor problem I think. There's no hint of pink in the official TTT cover I've seen. It's a deep red.

Hmmm, good to know. I guess my monitor is screwwed up.

Or it could be your eyes. Are you male? Color blindness is very common for them. Just thought I'd let you know that interesting fact:D

Are you kidding? I mean, I am male, but....that's kinda scary, since if I am slightly colorblind, I had no idea!

No I'm not...My dad is, one of my teachers is, and alot of times they have no idea. very scary indeed. Get checked on it. I think there's a web site where you can test yourself. I'll try to find it for ya.

Got it: color blind test (http://www.toledo-bend.com/colorblind/Ishihara.html)
anybody who's curious give it a try...hehe

Or maybe it really just is his moniter. Just in case, maybe you should ask another person (female preferably since color blindness is more common in males) to look at the screen and see if the color is screwed up to them.

Thanks for your expert advice Kat, but I think I had this covered the scientific way if you don't mind. Seeing as I did post the official test link and all.:D :p

glad to hear it. me on the other hand....i had a little trouble with that last thing. It was the alternative test to the other six. I read the info about it first and I think I tried too hard to see what they said you would if you are color blind. I'm a little nervous now...and my eyes hurt!

those tests are cool. no offence to you who happen to be colour blind, but seeing those people do the ones where you trace over the pattern with ya finger is sometimes halarious

About the TTT DVD being redish...
(didnt wanna start a new topic for this)

I often look on Play247.com for dvd's

and I found this picture:

The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers - Director's Extended Version (4 Discs)

just a B/W pic or the real thing ???

It must be just a black and white pic.

Don't worry NN, Amazon have a similar B/W pic for some bizarre reason. They managed to get the incorrect box design for the FOTR EE though, and even now if you pull up the FOTR EE pic on Amazon it will be the different artwork.

Here's the 'official' TTT DVD thread if your'e interested. http://www.comingsoon.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12237&perpage=40&pagenumber=1

Unfortunately, this isn't the official cover. I really wish it were, though. Grey and/or blue seemed right for TTT EE....

Eh, I'm okay with blue...

I had always expected TTT to be blue and RotK to be red/brown... but maybe PJ just got dyslexic on us...

Then again, I don't really care that much...it's not what's on the outside but INSIDE that counts!!

I did the first test, and I was able to make out 4 of the six numbers.

On the second test, there was no clear 2 or 5 for me. Maybe that means my color-sight is just a little weird.

This is from Amazon.com:

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00009TB5G.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

That looks sort of murky pinkish-brown to me. I adjusted my moniter every possible way, but I never got a deep red like you guys are talking about.

Now this is from Buy.com:

http://ak.buy.com/db_assets/large_images/834/40225834.jpg

This is more deep red. I am thinking this is the real one.

On your other question,

I prefer the theatrical cut of FOTR.....it does flow better and the Shire music at the beginning is not ruined by the narration from Bilbo. What were they thinking????

I only watch the the theatrical version, even though I have both.

IceGambit, the first image you put up is I think is indeed a pinkish-brown shade, whereas the bottom image is the 'correct' one. You can check the official site (www.lordoftherings.net) for the exact version. When the colour of TTT was being discussed, (before NL released the official pic) there were quite a few versions flying about, blue, red, green, which were simply Photoshop impressions of what it would be.

The lower of the two pics posted definitely looks the best, and I think it's the right one.

About the ROTK movie, I think it'll be blue. It's just the color left, and it seems to tie in with the fact that the movie is going to be very sad at times. Anyone have any idea when the ROTK EE is going to released, are they going to wait all the way to november again?

To the final question, I prefer the EE.

And I took the test, and I'm not color blind :) Could make out all of the 6 first, and the lower. Though I couldn't find the 2 number, no matter how hard I tried.

I agree that the flow seems better in the TC. The EE seems to take soo long to get started. I'm sure if the EE was what you had seen first you wouldn't mind it. It's just different...and it eventually grows on you.

Does anybody think it's weird if your post number suddenly goes down? I haven't deleted any and I had 6 more yesterday. It was 805 and now its 799.

IceGambit

I prefer the EE. More of Tolkien's world come to life, at the same quality as the other sections of the movie. I particularly like Bilbo's narration, since we see more beautiful photography of Hobbiton.

I seems more complete. Most of the cuts were made to time constraints, which means they were meant to be in the movie.

Good to hear. I see a 2 when I concentrate really hard on the design entwined with the 5. The big green dot near the top of the 5 is the starting point for the 2. In the path of the 2 after the big green one are a big light orange dot (by the curve of the top of the 2), then a big blue one, then a cluster of three blue dots, then a whitish blue area at the end of the 2. It was very difficult:D And I'm sorry if that makes no sense.
