You can't even really COMPARE LotR to HP, even if they are in the same category. HP is on a different (and lower) level than LotR is on the literature scale. HP is of course an excellent book series, but LotR...it's classic...almighty...whatever, it just can't be compared. You're actually dissing LotR by even comparing it to HP, good or bad.

Hey I love LOTR...nay...I'm obsessed with LOTR (hence the user name :D). But I don't bash HP cuz I enjoy reading it just as much. I'm just not a freak about it like some people...ahem Kat. And ITA with Midget Nazgul...It is on a completely different level literature wise...uncomparable. Long live LOTR AND HP!!!!!!!!!:heart:

The LotR trilogy is more advanced than the Harry Potter series. You simply cannot compare them in a sense of which one is "better." Harry Potter is meant for entertainment and is for all ages. LotR has deeper issues written into it. You have to have an understanding of the book to enjoy it. I mean, I love Harry Potter, but I also have respect for the fans of LotR... ahem Gina... so please The_One_Ring try not to insult Harry Potter fans and respect our obssessions when obviously since we are in a Harry Potter forum, there are bound to be people here who, if you continue to talk smack about HP, will rip you to tiny little pieces and enjoy watching you scream as they do it. Just kettin' ya know ;)

yeah, i'm with que_SuertE777 and LOTRfan..... you can't compare them because they're DIFFERENT. Lord of the Rings (very very amazing) does tend to have deeper meaning, but in my opinion, only because Tolkien created a whole world with a totally original history (i think that's freakin amazing, that he could do that) but I wouldn't say that the story is deeper..... maybe because I only read the series once and I don't see something.
ANYWAY.... i'm trying to say that nobody has to right to totally bash and upset fans of something they they truly love. what's it too The_One_Ring whether or not people like HP? I love it, and I love Lord of the Rings. For different reasons tho. You cannot compare them.
But why is Harry Potter a rip off? I didn't understand that? I mean, she created her own version of a fictional world.... I see no resemblance to the LOTR world..... please explain why you say it's a rip off.

I know you weren't addressing this to me but I wanna respond anyway. It's not a full-on ripoff...it just borrowed terms and ideas from LOTR. There is a huge list of comparisons at http://mugglenet.com/hpvslotr.shtml (I have one of my own that I've been keeping track of too :D ). However, virtually no books or movies can ever be called original. If you look hard enough, parallels can usually be found with sooo many other previously published books. So it didn't copy LOTR...it's just that the HP and LOTR movies are coming out around the same time so similarities have been brought to people's attention.

The lotr movies are better then the hp movies but i love them all
the hp books are better then the lotr books but i love them all (its just easier to read and more entertaining)

I see..... i mean, anyone can come up with simalarities, yes, but i don't think that any relating things that are even remotely similar were done on purpose.

yeah, i liked harry potter books better than lotr books, but vice versa for the movies.

Well, I wouldn't say that exactly. You could say that they involve different people and environments, but not different. In fact, you could see a whole lotta similarities between LOTR and HP.
