First of all, if you plan on simply saying "Remakes should not be made at all!", then please realize that this thread is simply for those of us that want to imagine familiar movies with a different cast.
That said, just throw away your ideas!
First up, Bonfire of the Vanities! Starring:
Sherman McCoy - David Hyde Pierce
Judy McCoy - Bebe Neuwirth
Maria Ruskin - Jennifer Tilly
Jed Kramer - Kevin James
Judge Leonard White - Samuel L. Jackson
Reverend Bacon - Bernie Mac
Mayor Abe Weiss - Christopher Walken
AND
Peter Fallow - Tom Hanks

The Treasure of Sierra Madre
Fred Cobbs- George Clooney
Bob Curtin- Mark Wahlberg
Howard- Sean Connery
Barton MacClane- Treat Williams
Casablanca
Rick Blaine- Clooney again (he's cool enough to be Bogart)
Ilsa- hard to cast, who's as beautiful Ingrid Bergman?
Renault- Ben Kingsley
Victor- Mel Gibson (what the heck?)
Sam- Forest Whitaker
Ugarte- Steve Buscemi
Ferrari- Robbie Coltrane
~OR if they decide to go with that Affleck/J. Lo thing, I'd set it in Mexico. First up, plot. Rick has a bar in Cuba or something, Ilsa is married to some US secret agent Victor who needs to get vital info back to the US.
Rick- Ben Affleck
Ilsa- J. Lo
Victor- Don't care
Eh, screw it. Don't care either way.........

I can't see Sean Connery as Howard... Especially if he's to do that 'gold dance'
Clooney as Rick Blaine? Just doesn't sound right to me... Mel Gibson would be too powerful as Victor, we need an undemanding presence for Victor... Just a pretty boy type.

Sean Connery came out of nowhere really. My choice was Richard Farnsworth (The Straight Story) but he passed away. Connery was the first older gent I thought of.
As for Clooney, I was thinking of someone slick and cool, but couldn't think of anyone but Chris Walken who's too old. I thought of Clooney in Ocean's Eleven and it seemed alright to me.
I agree with Gibson. I was thinking of Ed Stoppard (The Pianist), but he porved to be a decade too young. I got to thinking "strong looking male...forties..." and came up with Gibson (hence the "What the heck?" remark).

Something I've posted a couple times before, but here, for the first time in expanded form........
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
Atticus Finch.............................. Tom Hanks
He's perfect!
Scout, Jem, and the kids............Unknowns
We don't need no stinkin' stuck-up Hollywood brats!
Aunt Alexandria..........................Julianne Moore
A character from the book that desparately need to be in a remake! I made her younger though. In the books, she's a grandmother, but she always seemed too distant being that old.
Miss Maudie................................Patricia Clarkson
Good actress that could bring some warmth to the role.
Bob Ewell.....................................William Sadler
He played a good Southern hick in The Green Mile! 2nd choice: Kurtwood Smith
Mayella Ewell..............................Amy Adams
Made a good impression in Catch Me if You Can as a sobbing misunderstood girl. 2nd choice: Katie Holmes
Tom Robinson.............................Ja Rule
Not too solid on that one. ;) He's a nice-natured looking guy in his mid-tweties, as IIRC, Tom is. Don't know if he can act, but at least he looks the part.
Mrs. Dubose................................Phyllis Diller
A character from the books that was barely in the movie. Not too solid on this choice either cince I've never seen her act. I only chose her because of her voice from A Bug's Life and the fact that she was a comedian. but she has a condescending voice that could play well into it. Any thoughts for the old, dying, cranky morphine addict.
Calpurnia..................................Kimberl y Scott
Again, not too sure on this either. I'm casting her from seeing her in the Abyss. 2nd choice: Viola Davis.
Heck Tate.................................Gary Sinise
Yep, he'd make a good sheriff.
Mr. Gilmer...............................Vincent D'Onofrio
To play the rather wicked (at least in the courtroom) prosecutor. Maybe Tony Shalhoub (after seeing him in The Man Who Wasn't There).
Judge Taylor............................M. Emmett Walsh
As the old and rather slobbish Judge. But if they want to play it in another way from the book, Robert Duvall would make a good Judge. :D
Mr. Dolphus Raymond.............Jeffrey DeMunn
That's just who I see in the role. 2nd choice: Dan Hedaya, maybe
And others.......don't know who to play Boo.

You shouldn't be talking. You picked Marky Mark to be in a remake of Ghostbusters.

Henry Thomas might be able to pull off Norman Bates. Hell, he played the young Bates in one of the sequels! He looks just like Perkins.

Well you obviously don't know much about the movie. All you know obviously comes from what you've heard- that being that Norman is the title character.
Well pull your own head out of your own ass, go do some research, WATCH THE DAMN MOVIE. When Hitchcock cast Perkins as Norman, the reason was because Perkins was one of the era's pretty boys, a guy who could play any character and still come off unthreatening, the most unlikely person in the movie to be a bad guy.
If you haven't figured it out already, the revelation that Norman is the psycho is the movie's TWIST. Hitchcock wanted audiences to root for Norman Bates up until the final revelation.
Is Bloom considered today's pretty boy whose characters can do no wrong? Do any of Bloom's characters come off threatening? Use that rotting gray mass in your skull before you respond in such a manner next time, moron.

Orlando Bloom is a poor choice for Bates. You have all this stuff about Hitchcock casting Perkins for his Hollywood star/pretty boy qualities, but you forget that this is a remake. That idea is now useless. What we want in Bates is innocence, which is what made the character so startling when he was originally introduced to us. And besides, I don't think Bloom has the acting chops to pull it off just yet.
I say a good Norman Bates would be Jeremy Davies. He has the mousy quality, and resembles Anthony Perkins.

Why don't you just calm down, huh? There is no need to attack people like that.
I think if they made a remake of Psycho, Norman should by played by Vince Vaughn.
Oh wait......

Hmm....I think Jackie Chan is too high-profile to appear in the movie, it would be distracting.
That's what was good about the cast of the movie. It was made up primarily of character actors who could inhabit their roles without distracting from the main focus of the film.

Daredevil needs to be remade because the casting was wrong.
Matt Murdock- anyone but Ben Affleck
the rest of the cast was fine. wasnt Kingpin a fat white guy in the comic?
Citizen Kane

I think so, I remember reading a DareDevil/Spiderman crossover ages ago and Kingpin was this fat white guy.
