New Weekend Warrior: American Pie and Gigli!

Two R-Rated romantic-type comedies are in the works for this coming weekend, one a highly anticipated sequel and one the maybe not so highly first screen collaboration between Ben Affleck and fiance Jennifer Lopez.

This weekend will be close because the "American Pie" series is hilarious and very popular with teenagers not to mention all the young kids who will try to get in. "Gigli" will make good money because of Jeniffer Lopez and Ben Affleck's relationshio off screen so people will want to see how they work out on screen, even though this film was filmmed before the relationship.

$48 million for AP3 sounds a bit high seeing as how it is the third installment of a progressively weaker comedy franchise. The movie market is saturated right now...so many choices. I'd drop that down to somewhere in the $30-40 million range.

The Weekend Warrior has hit Gigli right on the head...this will flop without a doubt. I think everyone is getting a little tired of Ben and Jen...screams vanity movie.

I think the big problem with GIGLI is that it doesn't know what it wants to be. It harks back to another big bomb for Sony this summer, HOllywood Homicide. With that cast and director, it should have done much better. Ironically, Martin Brest is from the same era of Hollywood as Ron Shelton.

Gigli isn't gonna do well. There's not really that much advertisements for it compared to AP3.

By the way, since writing the column, I also learned that GIGLI is two hours long and it's playing almost exlusively on 1 screen per theatre, which means that it might only get five screenings per day. Unless they all sell out, it's doubtful it can do more than $9 million

Gigli is gonna bomb but doesnt 8.5 million seem to much, its already getting horrible reviews by critics and test screenings for the general audience have been terrible.

All reviews for Gigli are terrible, even the Pacino and Walken in it. the bad part is that there is another Jen and Ben movie and worst part is that it might be very good.

i didn't see ap2 coz it seemed like more of the same thing (and the first wasn't that great really) but i'm actually excited about this movie. particularly out of curiosity for how the wedding turns out, i'm gonna watch it as soon as it's released.

I hope American Wedding does really well, i loved the first two and (hopefully) this will be a good ending to a good run for all three movies. I've heard good things about it, and heard it's really funny.

And has anyone read the review for it on ComingSoon. 8/10 isn't bad at all. I'll definately check it out. I hope that the Bennifer Lofleck movie bombs big time, we don't need more of her ****ty movies.

I've seen a couple trailers and tv-spots for Gigli, and I still have NO IDEA what this movie is about.......but wait, it doesn't matter what it's about, it has JoBlo and Assflick....

By the way, I have lowered my estimate on Gigli. The 0% rottentomatoes rating plus the small theatre/screen count was bad enough, but it hasn't appeared in the moviefone Top 10 yet and even Real Cancun and From Justin to Kelly made it onto the moviefone Top 10 in the days before they came out...and both of them barely even made the *real* TOp 10. I'm saying $7.5 million and aroun d$46.5 milion for American Wedding.

AP3 will do well in the boxoffice $45+ . Eugene Levy alone is one very good reason to see that movie.

There's nothing wrong with J Lo, and there's nothing wrong with Affleck..... it's just that this movie they chose to be in is horrible. They probably were just really wanting to be in a movie together and went out and found a script with a guy and a girl, but found a craptastic one at that.

Anyways, about 4 million made for Gigli. Not as bad as Madonna's crap, but still pretty bad.

This is just JLo's movie to add on to all the other crap movies by women singers. Madonna's Swept away, Britany Spears' Crossroads, Mariah Carrey's Glitter, and now Jennifer Lopez's Gigli.

I never said J lo only has done Gigli. Madonna has done more than just Swept Away too. These are just extreme bombs and crap that each has done.
