I dont know "the great escape?"

Theres too many to choose from the black and white clasics like cassablanca and so many b-movies like king kong, the day the earth stood still and war of the worlds etc.

Nothin scientific here. I just went through my top ten of all time and picked the first one that was pre-1970, and that was VERTIGO. Hitchcocks greatest and another one of Stewarts great performances. Just a masterpiece.

Terrible habit...

I'll have to say Vertigo, as well. But I really want to say 2001... Consider it a tie.

-He's obviously not. This is a crap thread(just kidding) because its so hard to choose...it would be easier to name my favorite post-1970 film...How about "Nights of Cabiria", by Federico Fellini?

My favorite movie of all time would have to be Lawrence of Arabia, ive seen it 3 times. Others before the 70s are Great Escape, To Kill a Mockingbird, Rear Window, The Birds, The Hustler, Casablanca, Seven Samurai, Patton, and Saboteur.

I have to go with Hitchcock. And that would be a toss-up between Rope and Rear Window. Pretty sure that I like Rear Window better, but I've always been a nut for cinematic devices, and I just love that single shot technique in Rope.

I have not seen many of these classic movies, because I will get them on DVD eventually. The oldest movie I can think of, though, in my collection, is Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which is three years off. I of course also enjoy classic Disney animation...

Pre 1970s would have to be "Arsenic and Old Lace". I love Cary Grant in that one. His facial expressions are wonderfully funny.
