Definetly NOT- possibly the worst Superhero film next to the Fantastic Four movie.

Nope. Not only was this a disappointing movie, but there are a whole lot of other superheros who should've gotten movies before DD. Never heard of the dude until the movie came out...and I will quickly be forgetting him.

Ive already reserved my copy, and I dont understand why people dont like this movie. Its a great Comic book movie, and ranks right up there with X-Men and Spider-Man. The thing I hear most often is that the person hadnt even heard of Daredevil before the movie came out, well thats probably half of the problem right there.

Maybe a better question is... who would be getting this movie if Jennifer Garner/Elecktra wasn't in it? Geez, she gets almost equal billing on the box! (Not that that's a bad thing.)

Itīs a picture of the British Region-2 DVD. Which is the one Iīll be getting soon. Not a very good movie, but, then again, not a very bad one either. A fairly average movie, but the DVD is loaded with goodies.

I liked the movie enough and the DVD is loaded enough for me to get it. Would've made a good birthday present, but it comes out the day after my birthday. :)

The movie in the US is 103 minutes. In the UK two shots were cut but are now back on the DVD so it's not exactly an extended edition, more of an uncut version. (UK's is only 99 min because of PAL speed-up).

If you're waiting for the Director's Cut, the director occasionally drops in at the SHH! forums (I'm assuming it's him because during production he'd give inside info about the movie that later came to be true like the extra bit with Bullseye at the end credits) and he said they probably won't release the DC until 2005 when the Elektra movie comes out.

Coolio's Lost Daredevil Footage
Monday, February 17, 2003 9:19 CST

What happened to Coolio's footage in the Daredevil movie? The Calgary Sun reports:

You'll see rapper Coolio's name in the credits for Daredevil, but you won't see his face in the movie.

According to the film's writer and director, Mark Steven Johnson, it seemed like a cool idea to have a major subplot involving a character named Daunte Jackson in the superhero adventure.

By day, avenger Daredevil is the blind lawyer Matt Murdock. Johnson wanted to show what a good lawyer he is, so he created a storyline in which Murdock (Ben Affleck) and his assistant Franklin Nelson (Jon Favreau) were trying to prove their client Daunte Jackson was innocent of his murder charge.

"They actually go out and do the investigating themselves. It shows a very important side to Matt's character.

"He is as much the champion of the innocent by day as he is by night," explains Johnson.

This subplot is just 20 minutes of film footage that will end up on the DVD version of Daredevil.

"You'll see a very different movie on the DVD. We had to tone down quite a bit of the violence to get our PG rating for the cinema release, and there are important scenes for each of the major characters that had to be trimmed."

I bought the Region 2 version 3 weeks ago and I would love to get hold of this guys e-mail address and complain that the movie on the DVD is the same movie that was shown in UK cinemas with a 15 rating.

BTW the Coolio scene isn't on the DVD either

Those 15 minutes arenīt included in the American Region-1 DVD version either. Isnīt there supposed to be released a "Director's Cut" version of the movie this december? Thereīs been talk about doing that, I know.

Yeah, there has been much ado about a directors cut over at SHH. This was one of those films that I get the feeling really got screwed during the editing process, so a DC might be a really good thing. That said, I still liked this movie better than Spider-man. Bullseye saved the whole thing as far as I'm concerned, and even as over-the-top as Colin Farrell was, he didn't chew up the scenery the way Dafoe did. (God that was annoying.)

Rizor
07-27-2003, 02:39 PM
The current DVD is simply the theatrical cut.

Here's that post by the director at SHH! made on 7/18:

"I'm sitting on the mixing stage right now, finishing the Director's Cut. It's 35 minutes of additional footage (nearly 1/3 of the theatrical running time). Thank God for DVD. It will be up to you to decide if it's indeed better or not, but rest assured it's a very different version of the movie. No release date is set yet, they may wait and use it to kick off the Elektra movie. But know that it is definitely being done and it will indeed include everything that was cut from the theatrical release. There is the murder case that Matt and Foggy take, lots of courtroom drama, Matt's own investigation into the case, heaps 'o violence, and the Kingpin gets to show why he's such a bad ass. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long!"

By the way, the Elektra movie will start filming April 2004 with a release in 2005. We'll have to wait 2 more years for a Director's Cut if Fox does go this path.

Rocketboy

Maybe the director's cut will lengthen the time elapsed in the actual movie. It seemed like everything happened in just a few days. DD and Elektra fell in love after like two meetings? Riiiiiiiight.

I will be waiting until December (or whenever) to see if the R-rated director's cut is released as planned. If it is not, then this is just a rental. Too many gaps and Kingpin isn't a very well developed villain, despite what MCD COULD have done with the character. If the director's cut with extra footage is released, then I'm all for DD. They can only make it better with more footage...

Riiiiiiiight.Same thing in M:I2! It's ridiculous. Ethan and that girl (Naya or something) meet briefly in one scene, he saves her from a car accident and beds her. Cut to next day: "I love you! I'll never let anything happen to you!"

I won't be getting it.To me Daredevil was a complete disappointment.

I was skeptical of the film when I first saw Ben Affleck in his costume. Then I saw the trailer, which didn't do it for me either. The thing that go me excited about the film was the internet reviews...I never really listen to critics, but I do SOMETIMES listen to fellow movie fans, and some of the online critics gave it good reviews...

Then I saw the film.It was just poorly done.Nothing in the film felt original(Yes,its based on a comic book, but there was no unique feel to it).It felt like a bad Batman rip-off.Its main flaw was that the supporting characters were FAR more interesting than the lead.Ben Affleck really made no impression in this film.It was Colin Farrell and Jennifer Garner who stole the show.

I LOVED DAREDEVIL! I thought it was almost better than Spiderman and the first X-Men b/c it wasn't as geared towards a younger audience. i think the diretor just made the movie as he felt it should be and not as a "lets take the kids and see a goody-two-shoes" superhero movie. i agree that it seemed a bit rushed and underdeveloped at some points but i let that slide due to the fact that it was heavily cut. i went to the theater skeptical and was pleasantly surprised. love the dvd! CAN'T WAIT FOR A DIRECTORS CUT!

A Guy
07-30-2003, 01:51 AM
by the way, i'm not bashing Spiderman or X-Men. i loved both of those with a passion. i just felt that some of the parts of those two were too child-oriented. (i know, kids love superheros, so they should make it so they can enjoy them too) But X2 was better than x-men b/c it was made more, ...i dunno, un-childish IMO. maybe i don't know what im saying, hahaha

Sorry. I don't keep a running list of the Top 100 Marvel Superheroes of all-time.

No, I don't read comics...and neither does a large part of our society. There are some superheroes who have crossed-over into mainstream society (i.e., Batman, Superman, Wonderwoman, etc.) that everybody and their mother knows about. Then on the other hand, you've got your characters like DD whom only the avid comic book fans have actually heard of before...c'mon...it's not like DD has had his own Saturday morning cartoon.

Oh yeah...shaka bruddah.

I picked up Daredevil on Thursday.

The video quality was pretty good, and I basically bought the movie to see the excellent colors and cinematogrphy on DVD. So I'm glad that those held up.

Tha audio track was excellent, too. I am glad for this too, since the sound design was fantastic.

The commentary by MJS was dull. The pop-up track was informative, but not engaging. I haven't watched the extended branching version, is there anything of value there?

I did enjoy the two hour-long documentaries, moreso the one on comics. I do wish more extras would've been about the comic instead of the movie.

The only real reason I got the movie was for certain shots in the film that made the comic fan in me jump for joy. I don't really like the plot (or lack of it.)
