I'd have to say the most disturbing scene I've seen in a film is the alternate ending to "The Butterfly Effect". :(

Any scene in a Pauly Shore movie. I'm disturbed they ever got made. And the sadder fact is that some people like them. That's disturbing in every sense of the word

Two scenes that come to mind from the same movie that are not disturbing because of them being graphic but because they are so dramatic and chilling:
In the film "Elephant", when Benny is walking through the hallways and sees the locker on fire and all the kids running around and then suddenly gets shot; when Alex is playing Fur Elise on the piano and suddenly smashes his hands on the keys and flips the sheet music off.

Ok serious movie questions: I just got netflix reinstated:
Is Passion of The Christ and Gary Oldman's Nil By Mouth worth my time?
I love challenging, unflinching films...and was wondering if these are truly worth the critical acclaim they have gotten.

The alternate ending to Butterfly Effect was ****ed up. Donnie Darko, which I just watched, is one of the most disturbing movies I have ever seen. It also is in my top ten list of all time favorite movies. Frank is awesome!

After seeing Platoon, I have to say the scene in the village. Bunny smashing the retarded kid's head with the gun and saying how his head came apart and how the brains came out, and Barnes threatening to shoot the little girl after killing her mother.

Ok, I have rethought this, the three most disturbing scenes ever committed to celluloid:
1. Irreversible: fire extenguisher
2. Passion of the Christ: finale of the roman centurion whippings
3. OldBoy: revenge scenes

Well its gotta be better than Mindhunters, heh. It will either be 'holy sh#(#@!'

from what iv seen on here people have mentioned the fire extinguisher scene from irreversible, which is shockingly relentless and realistic to say the least, but the rape scene later on in the film is far, FAR more disturbing in every sense of the word. that left me feeling sick to the stomach and i truly wanted to step inside the screen and give him the fire extinguisher treatment myself. anyone who has seen it will know what i mean, it is truly horrible to watch and it left me feeling violated for days!

When I was young I saw the Toxic Avenger, and when Stanley falls into the toxic waste and everyone laughs at him while his skin melts off stayed with me for a while.
In American History X when Danny gets shot by a cowardly thug I was really pissed. But that whole movie pissed me off, because it was so inaccurate, and uninformed.
In Pink Flamingos when they lick everything in the trailer, and the guy who does the starfish dance.

I don't know about most disturbing scene, but one that was disturbing was in Day Of The Dead when this army guy got his head ripped off. It was a really slow death, and as his head was being removed, his scream got higher pitched until stopping completely. That scene made me squirm a bit, and I rarely do that.
That scene and the entirety of Passion Of The Christ.

How was American History X inaccurate?
The movie continued to spread the false notion that all skinheads are racist. The Skinheads began in 1969 in Boston as a group of blue collar dock working 20 year olds that had to shave their heads due to a lice problem on the docks. The went to a lot of the same clubs as the punks and Mods and were absorbed into the general scene. The guys called themselves "Skinheads" as a joke, and it stuck. Original or Traditional Skins valued hard work, beer and jamacian influenced music popular in the area.
In the mid to late 70's the Rising white power movement in the US adopted the skinhead look/style/music in hopes of reaching a younger generation. Unfortunatly it worked and over the next 20 years the Neo Nazi's made news and dragged the sub culture down with ignorance and hate. During all of this many groups of "Traditional" skins have been trying to keep the original culture of music, fun and working class values alive. Unfortunatly for them that **** does not sell newspapers. You hear about neo Nazi's all day, but I bet no one has read an article about S.H.A.R.P.s (SkinHeads Against Racial Prejudice)
So I took issue with American History X because it presented the false idea that all skinheads are racist junior KKK morons.

When did the film ever even attempt to spread that notion? The film was based around racist skinheads, not a documentary about the history.
And if I recall correctly, there is a line that directly renounces the idea that Edward Norton and his cohorts are some form of "junior KKK".

They refer to Derek as "the" skinhead meaning that he is the architypical skin. They also say that they have united all of the groups in the california area, meaning what? that all skins in the california area are racist?
Honestly were you aware before this, or did you think that all skins were neo nazis?
As for the KKK coment, yes I remember that in the movie, but he refered to them as a bunch of disorganized rednecks. they did not downplay the hate connection.
Justin
10-14-2008, 01:48 PM
No, they referred to him because he was nearly the "leader" of the group they had formed -- it was pretty clear, since he rallied the skinheads together to perform despicable acts. Perhaps he also epitomizes what it means to be a racist skin.
And I think he means all other racist skinhead groups. And yeah, I was, and nowhere in this film did they imply that all skinheads were racist. The notion was never once even entertained.

Aha, interesting..............So enlighten me, friendo. Did you really get informed about all of this through some articles and getting taught about it in school, or did you actually experience it yourself? Cause if you lived through this and actually knew skinheads who weren't racist, then I would be more likely to believe you.
Back to the topic. Kinda funny that I just saw this thread come back because I saw a film yesterday that has pretty much scarred me for life. That's how you KNOW it's really bad. Read this spoiler at your own risk as I will not have any sympathy for you if you too are scarred for life:
A girl walks down the street with her friends and then starts to feel nauseated. Her friends look at her concered and ask if she's alright. Of course she's not. The girl falls down to one knee and then vomits a chunkful of hot dogs. It's a massive pile of puke and she continues to puke for about a minute straight. Her friends are laughing at her as if their amused by her puking. The girl coninues to puke this greenish brown vomit, then pukes out blood. Her friends then get some nachos and actually feed her while she's still puking. A large crowd then notices her puking and then rush over to see the girl puke some more. They're all taking photos of her and recording video. The girl soon starts to puke out huge chunks of her own feces and does so for about 30 seconds. Then she pukes out a feces the size of a baseball glove and actually breaks her lower jaw doing so. Her mouth is now hanging like flab as her eyes pop blood vessels. The crowd around her is laughing hysterically. One man get's a burger and literally shoves it straight in the girl's mouth as she then pukes that up as well. It starts to really get disgusting when the girl starts puking out her own intestines. Feet after feet after feet of intestines just vomiting out of her mouth blood trickling down everywhere while the crowd is laughing enjoying every second of it. It finally ends when the girl is bleeding profusely from her vagina (she's wearing a short dress so you can see everything in plain sight. She finally falls dead after the bleeding has stopped and the crowd (including her friends) leave. All but one guy leave as he then pulls down his pants and starts to f**k her dead body.
The film was called "Intuition" and according to my friend who sent it to me, it's a Denmark indie film he had heard about and after viewing it, urged me to see it. Damn you Jason. Damn you for all eternity.

I was into the punk scene all through high school and college. Yeah I was that ******* with the safety pins in his clothes and bad, bad hair. Anyway I went to a lot of shows and bars that other punks and skins hung out in, and shot my mouth off one night and a few of them straightened me out. I did some fact checking and also talked to a lot of other guys. It all fits. There have even been books written about it. "Spirit of 69" for one. so yeah I lived next door to it.

These are the worst/best scenes that are shocking/disturbing on my list.
-By the time it got to the third or fourth rape scene in Dogville, I was done. As if the first one wasn't bad enough.
-The curbing in American History X, and his rape scene.
-When Divine ate the dog poop in Pink Flamingos
-The donkey show in Clerks 2 (but it was funny as heck)
-When the girl gets thrown into the needle pit in Saw 2.
-When Edward Norton's character shoots himself in Fight Club
-The zombie baby scene in the remake of Dawn of the Dead
-In American Wedding, when Jim gets his pubes all over the cake, and when Stifler eats ****.
-When Rachel Leigh Cook's character gets hit by the van in 11:14. Also her sex scene in the cemetery with Blake Heron.
-The grisly death of the commanding officer near the end of the 1985 version of Day of the Dead.
That's all I can think of at the moment.
