I was watching it a couple of days ago, and wondered, since they are remaking everything else, are they ever gonna do a new Willy Wonka?
Do you think they should?
With Charlie as the owner (which would be a sequel) or
with Wonka as the owner (which would be a remake).
what should be different?

Tim Burton is remaking it with possibly Christopher Walken in the Willy Wonka role

Nah, i think Johnny Depp should be Wonka, the guy is a great actor and i think he could pull it off. And another thing, Depp and Burton seem to be friends, both of them worked together in many different films: Sleepy Hollow, Ed Wood, and Edward Scissorhands. I wouldnt be surprised if he was in this movie.

The two names being thrown around are Michael Keaton and Christpher Walken, as far as I have heard... but does anyone know if it is still gonna be a musical? I can't see Burton doing that, but a straight story would kick some serious bootay.

i wish they'd leave the classics alone. Try something ORIGINAL. Tim Burton is more than capable of doing something much better.

Yeah but the first movie isn't really original, it is an adaptation of a book.
This won't be a musical and is supposed to be a closer adaptation of the book than the first Wonka film. I think if they have to make another Wonka film, Burton is the best choice to do it. Well, maybe Terry Gilliam would be good too, but since Burton's doing it, I guess it doesn't matter.

His name is Gene Wilder and the man was a great comedic actor of his time. Check out Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstien just to name a few. And no one could've played Wonka any better.

I dont know where I heard it, but I remember reading/hearing somewhere that Marylin Manson was in the works to play Wonka!!
Most likely not gonna happen, but he sure would be weird, just like Wonka is. I mean, he'd be freaky!
But Burton directing would be cool. Michael Keaton would not be a good Wonka, IMO. Johnny Depp could pull it off, especially after his Pirates performance!:applaud:
Christopher Walken would be great too though.
Why does Willy Wonka have to be someone that gives off the vibe of wanting to kill you?
Rabbit
07-22-2003, 01:17 PM
I dont think its wanting to kill you, its just his weird styles: his songs, inventions, styles (the half-everything room) and Oompa Loompas. Which brings up another point. Will the next one have Oompa Loompas?

They were in the book but were knee-high hairy people in rags, who laughed at the visitors.

They were in the original movie too. Do you think they will return? Will they sing more songs? :)

The oompa loompas scared me when I was little.
Christopher Walken is awesome, I think he could play a Willy Wonka.

I would much rather see Michael Keaton in the role.....
Keaton can pull off both subtle and over the top performances. He would be a great Wonka. Walken could do alright, but I really like the idea of Keaton doing it.

My pic would be Depp.
The thing that scared me was when the "gum girl" turned into a blueberry. I couldnt watch anything after that scene until I was like 12. :)

Johnny Depp Frontrunner to Play Willy Wonka!
Source: Variety Friday, July 25, 2003
The success of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and past collaborations with director Tim Burton make Johnny Depp the front-runner to play Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the second live-action adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic children's novel.
"Charlie" has long been considered one of Warner Bros.' most promising properties, one that the studio hopes will eventually lead to a Broadway musical.

Johnny Depp would rule as Wonka. And to whoever said "what's his name" did a crappy job in the original, grow up and learn to appreciate comedy from before Adam Sandler.
Gene Wilder rules.

Keaton, Walken or Depp would be fine by me. But Depp is probably what the studios would want.
Depp is a good choice if he eventually gets it. Maybe Walken can play Slugworth.

Haha! That would be cool!

If Keaton did this,it could be his comeback role. And the idea of Walken as Slugworth sounds awesome.

Yeah, the more that I think about Walken as Slugworth, the more I like it.
It would be a comeback role for Keaton, but Depp would be better. IMHO

hi all, this my first post here.
Johnny Depp would be cool but I heard back when the remake was just an idea that the artist Marilyn Manson was considered for the role. He's researched that movie so much I think he might have made a good Willy Wonka (but that's just my opinion). Any comments/begs to differ?
Rabbit

I agree that he'd be a pretty cool, if not creepy Wonka. And maybe that's just what a remake needs. So Either one (Manson or Depp) would work, I think. But I dont know which would be better, as they both could probably pull it off well.
Depp with his incredible acting, and ability to play tons of different types of people (Edward Scissorhands, Captain Jack Sparrow, the guy in Blow, the guy in Once Upon A Time In Mexico....)
Manson with his overall creepiness would also make for a perfect Wonka.

he might be good, but it would be a box office disaster if he was in.

I HATE WILLY WONKA. IT SCARRED MY CHILDHOOD. Seriously this should be rated R. It scared me out of my mind when I saw it for the first time (I was 4). I was like "Oh look mommy! A chocolate river!" And then the kid gets sucked in and Mr. Wonka calmly says "Oh he's off to become a brownie!" And then the girl gets turned into a giant blueberry and they never say if she blows up or not. The oompa loompas are so F****d up! 3 foot orange mosters that sing! And to cap it all off the girl gets burned alive in the furnace and Mr. Wonka doesn't seem the least bit concerned.
Honestly that was the most scared I have ever been while watching a movie. I hid behind the couch.
Tim, you had serious psychological issues as a child if you were scared of the oompa loompas. I could understand if you didn't like the boat ride to hell, but oompa loompas?
On the matter of Marilyn Manson as Wonka: I'd rather a real actor (and a damn good one too!) play Wonka than some sideshow phony.
Another thing I've been wondering is who could play Grandpa Joe? He's one of the most important parts and we don't want some guy off the street to play the most lovable and subtle villain on screen, do we? I seriously can't think of anyone.

umm one problem with mariyln manson in this role. this will probably end up mostly aiming for a younger audience, and most parents wouldn't let their children see it if he was willy wonka, so i doubt he would be the lead.

Cause Manson is a freaky monkey. It would turn off quite a few for the family aspect of the film, thus yes the box office results wouldn't be nearly as good.

johnny depp is the best actor of our time. i said manson would be a box office disaster. alot of people dislike him and would ruin the family aspect of the film. plus he cant really act.

My mate is gonna be in for a shock with this movie being remade. Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory is one of his all-time favourite films ever.
I think Tim Burton will pull off Charlie And The Chocolate Factory rather well and I do think that Johnny Depp would make an ideal Willy Wonka. I enjoyed Burton's adaptation of Planet Of The Apes also.
Hmm I wonder who will play Charlie....

why would anyone even want manson in this film. this is supposed to be a family film, and i don't think that most parents would let their children see a movie with him it in. depp is a good choice for the role.

After seeing Pirates of the Caribbean, I'm now casting my vote for Johnny Depp. Perfect for not only this part of Willy Wonka, but any part in any Tim Burton film. I cannot begin to imagine how well this will turn out with those two working together once more. I hope that Burton does his thing without regard to the original film, however, a dark Gene Wilder cameo somehow would be awesome. Originally I was all for the Walken, but bring on Depp... I wouldn't mind seeing the same movie, but make two, one with Walken and one with Depp. Both would be worth it!!!

Slugworth isn't in the book. So if Burton is adapting the book and not remaking the film the character won't be in CATCF. I'd rather see Burton's talent applied to an original concept instead of another remake, when you're dealing with a cult classic it's always a bad situation. What's his next project going to be a Rock Horror Picture Show remake?

Alas, I have not read the novel. Hopefully Burton will use Walken's talents somewhere in the movie. Maybe Grandpa Joe?

Thankful it isn't Burton doing it though =P
Oh, and Burton has already thrown the idea at Johnny Depp to play the role of Willy Wonka, but Depp hasn't really decided I guess. It comes down to him really and wether or not he feels like it.

yeah i know tim burrton isn't doing it, but he sounded like he would be shocked if they would do a remake of the rocky horror picture show. so i just said that they were already planning to remake that.

Is the new Wonka going to be another musical since Hollywood likes them so much lately?
I don't think it's gonna be a musical since it's more of an adaption of the book than the original was. Burton's probably gonna try to distance this version as far as he can from the other version.
If Tim Burton's adaptation of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory turns out to be hugely successful, what would be the chances of Burton also taking up the opportunity to get to film Charlie And The Glass Elevator?
Just a thought.

I LOVE THE IDEA OF TIM BURTON DOING THIS FILM...i think that he can put in some creative twists that the original didn't have....I don't agree with any of the actors that have been mentioned...however, i don't know who i would choose
