I agree! I know they made anime series before like in the 80s but I would love to see this in anime form with Advent Children level of work.

That's cause they werent making the right films. Im sorry, mario bros. jsut wont ever work on film. But something like metroid would be awesome. zelda too, with the resurgence of fantasy. and even contra, bringing back the old days of 80's tough man action films.

Yamauchi stated Zelda and Mario would not be on the list to make if they went into the film business. They want to go into other things.

He doesn't run Nintendo anymore - he left over a year ago, and retired.

Nintendo comfirmed the opening of their film production company - their first production is apparently a short movie.

And there's a chance that we'll see one, not for certain - if the realistic Zelda proves heavily successful, we will be seeing a movie - either animated in CG or live action (CG most likely).

you do know he owns it, right?

i think zelda will be popular amongst fanboys. and there isnt much to the game. till this day, the story has'nt evolved much, nor has the characters. look at MGS, **** loads of characterization and complexity. zelda just remians frozen and bland. sure the games have better gameplay, but not much else.

and a game like contra will never do well, without chnaging it big time. and even then, it'll be a rambo rip.

It was actually derived from several blockbuster action films including Rambo, Predator and Alien.

A Zelda movie does certainly sound interesting

I think that a Zelda movie would be amazing. But, I have some things that I think should be done.

1. Big name actors shouldn't be put in most of the roles. Too hollywood and it will suck.
2. Most of the budget should be spent on effects, location and production.
3. I also don't think that the story should follow any specific game. The reason is that the game series is hard to follow if you're not a hardcore fan. People who have never played zelda before need to be able to get it.

I'm an indie/guerilla filmmaker in Texas. I've been working on a screenplay for a Zelda movie for about a year and half. My plan is to shoot a 20 min scen from my script. Something showing all the good points of the story and the idea. That plus, the script will serve as my pitch to people like nintendo. As of now, there is no Zelda movie in the works...and honestly I don't think nintendo is even considering it right now. But, when I shoot this thing it'll be all over the net and I'll post links to it on here. We've even gone as far as making foam latex, face prosthetics that we are testing on friends to see if they look like the characters. If any of you want to discuss this plan of mine or even want to help...find me on AIM= NerdRock814.

Oh. P.S. any Zelda movie with any of those actors playing Link would suck. I haven't seen a good idea for a leading male role yet. And Vin Diesel? Ganondorf? He should be no where near the film set. Someone made a comment about having this "good" actors and hot actors. Screw that! Zelda is not about hollywood heart-throbs. That would make the movie a complete piece of garbage. That's just what I think.

It would work if they did one of three things made it like POC and or CG like Beouwolf or lord of the rings. If they make up a whole new story that fallows the basses of zleda. Like the master sword, ganon, zelda, triforces thous need to be the same and they could make up there own story.

IanTheCool

i agree, they shouldnt have big name actors, but i do think they would need a big name director, or at least an established director. this would not be material for a rookie. in order for this movie to work, it would have to have its very own, distintive tone.
i dont think peter jackson should do it, because it would feel way too much like LOTR, but someone in a similar category as him.
this movie would be a fine line to walk. in order for it to work, they would have to go all. this isnt a movie you can half-ass. as for the story, it has a good enough story for the one movie, even if the game stories have gotten stale. this could definitly work.

MAICHAEL BAY SHOULD DO IT OR SPIELBERG---i think that zelda can be interpreted onto screen very well...mario bros. idunno it just doesnt fit on screen...but someone else said contra. yes!!!! imme contra i love that game so much i dont have xbox live for 360 but im tryin to find a way to get it so i can play it on my 360 if anyone has ne ideas gimme a holla...but no arnold or sly for contra please im beggin...but LINK will do fine on screen...then next they will do burger time or excite bike or maybe skate or die lol just kiddin

Zelda would be cool, but it's not a particularly original movie idea, in this day and age of epic, Olde English action flicks.

Metroid Prime would make a better movie.

The thing to remember about the traditional Zelda story. Link is not only the hero but also a symbol or reflection of innocence. To get Orlando Bloom (A guy who has killed loads of people in movies!) would be a bad idea. He would not be taken serious in the role! Katie Holmes or Natalie Portman as Zelda? Come on people! Why does it always have to be well-knowns? I recently watched Hairspray, (I'm gonna get called gay for that admission!) and if we absolutely have to get well-knowns for the roles I saw Link and Zelda in that movie. Here is my cast as far as humanoid characters go.

Link..........................Zac Efron (Who ironically played a Link in Hairspray)
Zelda/Sheik................Brittany Snow
Ganondorf..................Bruce Payne
Nabooru.....................Milla Jovovich
Impa.........................Alice Krige
Saria.........................Elle Fanning
Talon........................Lou Albano
Malon........................Emma Stone
Rauru........................Anthony Hopkins
Ingo..........................Jonathan Hyde
Voice of Darunia..........Michael Clarke Duncan
Voice of Duku Tree.......Liam Neeson
Twinrova Sisters..........Maggie Smith
Navi...........................Kristen Kreuk
Great Fairy..................Enya

Well thats all I could come up with but come on! That would be like making a Smurfs movie with a total celebrity cast. Not practical!

NO!
Yes I know! As gay as Zac Efron looks most of the time, he still looks the part. Let us not forget, if they made a movie, Link would probably be mute, because Nintendo has already said if it came to that, they would handle the project themselves. So that would rule out him talking. Remember when we all thought Tobey Maguire was a poor choice for Spider-man? How wrong were we there? I think Zac Efron would be a good choice considering how many people want freaking Leonardo Dicaprio for link! C'mon anyone who would make him Link is not a Zelda fan. Besides I think Shigeru Miyamoto has already said it would be a cold day in hell before he would play the part! So no worries there! LOL

I didn't say he was mute! I simply said he would probably be mute if Nintendo handles the project themselves. Although he does yell, he never talks. I know they toyed around with the idea of giving him a voice or at least his own text but they decided against it for fear of negative consumer reviews. I would assume that Link does communicate in some way other than speech though, considering that he seems to be liked by everyone in the game except of course villains. We all know that no matter how hard you try and no matter how good your intentions are the only way you will ever be liked by everyone is to keep your mouth shut. LOL It is impossible that they will make a movie that will please everyone. I find movie making to be the same as politics in that aspect. Everyone has their own perception of the characters as they play the game themselves. What I originally posted was just my take on the game. As long as they don't butcher it the way they did D&D and Eragon I will be happy whether he talks or not!

To J. Bond: I think its funny that Ganon is the only character in the game that is always the same one from game to game. Link and Zelda are never the same ones. Even though Ganondorf started out as Ganon and was a pig, His character seemed to remain the same!

JBond
04-02-2008, 05:28 PM
What do you mean they're not the same? They seemed pretty consistant to me.

Knighthawke
04-02-2008, 06:35 PM
What do you mean they're not the same? They seemed pretty consistant to me.
Nope! They are usually reincarnations or descendants or just the next characters chosen by destiny to save Hyrule. Where Ganon is usually banished or trapped in some sort of suspended state and escapes or breaks loose! Its usually never the same Link or Zelda because the games are usually set hundreds or even thousands of years apart. Like The Wind Waker! In that game They talk about The Ocarina of Time Link like he is an ancient hero, which he is! In fact, there is a statue of him in Hyrule Castle. That game took place like a thousand years after Twilight Princess I believe! So yeah, you pretty much have to read up on Zelda games before they come out to know whats going on!........Or just play it! LOL

Here's an idea, why don't the scout those conventions and expos for a the actors because then they can actually visualise them in the movie. I suggest that we use teenagers too in the movie

what about this guy for example >> http://pikminlink.deviantart.com/art/Link-close-with-Miyamotos-Sig-34188558

Because that's business.

And "scouting expos" would be more exhausting than just simply holding auditions for roles. Besides the fact that there are usually still only a handful few that actually look good at conventions (and for a specific role? even less), but that doesn't mean anything on whether or not they can act.

Hell it took 3 decades before they realized the potential of comic book movies.

They have been bringing video games to the big screen - but most of them suck. Uwe Boll keeps trying, but he's got a screw loose somewhere and just doesn't get it. Others have been mildly successful suck as Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

Well, bringing them to the screen more seriously anyway. With exceptions like Batman and Superman, the comic book movies were slowly being trickled out, with little success. If anything, you could say Batman and Superman were the start of it all, and even with their early successes, it still took several years before Hollywood really began to recognize them. Now they're producing comic book movies out the butt, since they've seen they can be made into good films. Which means better budgets, and hiring better people behind them.

But let's clarify. It was also Marvel that was behind the slow-down for licensing their franchises more carefully. DC took the initial risk with Superman and Batman. Although could call Marvel as apart of Hollywood now in contrast.

So by comparison, that's one of the reasons video game movies have had so much trouble. Several of the studios which hold the rights to the franchise names have been completely uncaring when it comes to selling them out. or too cautious and not taking the time to find the right people to start creating them.

The fact that Uwe Boll's films kept getting green-lit just shows how not serious they've been (both Hollywood and the game studios/publishers). We could be on track for quality game franchises to be made into film, if it wasn't for these big "buts". The only thing Uwe Boll has done, is slow it down.

I mean think about it. Halo would be into production as we speak if it wasn't for them being so overly cautious on the matter. But if Halo was a successful comic book series, and Peter Jackson was wanting to produce it, and was in talks with Del Toro to direct? You can bet it would have been a sealed deal.

Looks like Prince of Persia is going to be the first LARGE scale video game adapted to a franchise. Resident Evil doesn't count to me for a few reasons,

1: Other than the Virus itself and a few characters... it had nothing to do with RE.

2: It wasn't epically big.

3: It wasn't all that good... still very mediocre.

Prince of Persia has to step up like Spiderman did if we want a video game to movie surge like comics made.

JT3294
05-28-2008, 04:00 AM
And you're right. A MAJOR complaint among producers/directors and whatnot is that game developers and studios sell the rights then shove off and don't support it like other sources do.

But that's a weak excuse to me because why would you NEED their support if you already know the material. If you can't make a faithful adaptation without the makers' help because you don't know/play the game... you shouldn't be helming the project.

Fanible
05-28-2008, 01:58 PM
I don't know anything about producers or directors complaining about it. If anything, a lot of them could care less, because they can just do whatever they want with it. That's where one of the problems lie, that game developers (or publishers usually) just sell the rights out to anyone. They should care enough so that the right directors and producers end up building adaptions off of them. And if they want to do it right, video game bibles need to be made to have as a reference, and/or some of the original writers or collaborators should be available to help.

I would say Silent Hill was the first real big budget adaption taken somewhat seriously. They actually adapted it fairly well. Just wasn't the greatest story in the world.

Don't know how much is being put into Prince of Persia just yet though. Hopefully it turns out good, but it's hard to say. The only movie I can say I'm really looking forward to due to their extreme caution, is the Warcraft movie, because several members of the Blizzard team are helping in producing it (artwork, design and story).

As for comparisons, I'd say X-Men was the first one to "step up" as far as the new wave of big comic book adaptions have gone. It came out two years before Spider-Man, and showed what could be done with a bit of dedication and today's visual FX, in addition to scoring big at the box office, which began to pave the way for pumping out more big budgets for other comic adaptions.

If they are going to sell the rights to a game such as this, it needs to be done carefully, and made sure that those who are doing it are taking it seriously.

Not that he really was doing so, but forums are places for discussion and debate. They'd be pretty boring if we all just agreed with one another all the time.

I kno that for a fact, but I'm really pissed about the trailer they made. I'm moaning cuz they made the characters ugly.

You don't have to be in this forum if you are going to cause trouble.

Look, non of us are right so deal with it

I mean, look, we are talking about something and thats good ^^

Wow, I have no idea what your talking about.

I agree with with Fanible's reply, and I'll leave it at that.

Being a Zelda game freak myself, I'm not sure if I'd want to see the movie; I don't want this world and this journey to fold out for me, I'd rather experience it first hand through playing the game.
