I've heard countless times that Roger Moore served as Flemming's inspiration for 007. But on the Casino Royale DVD commentary, it claims David Niven in fact was Flemming's inspiration. Someone want to clarify?

Do you mean what actor or what real person?

Maybe Ian was a nerd and James Bond was just who he wanted to be like ;)

I'm still not sure I understand. I mean, Sidney Reilly was a master spy that disappeared in Russia in 1925, and is said to be the inspiration for the character. And the name supposedly comes from a book that Fleming read called Birds of the West Indies, by a fellow named James Bond. Another theory involves an Australian guy named John Bennedick Brown, who it is believed was in fact Wing Commander James Bennedick Bond, late of posting with the 4th Fighter Interceptor Wing, US Fifth Air Force - on Her Majesty's very Secret Service. So there's two possibilities for real life inspirations. But as far as actors go, Connery was pretty inspired playing the character, and it's possible that Fleming knew of either him or Moore when he started writing. But other than inspiring the look and manners of the character I'm not sure how that's relevant.

I doubt it was Connery, if I recall, Ian didn't like Connery as the part.

I read a book once about a fort in Canada during World War Two who trained spies. The...captain, I guess, of the fort trained many different people during this time including someone named Ian Fleming. The training and the captain I always assumed inspired the stories.

I'm pretty sure Ian Flemming had Roger Moore in mind when he wrote the books. As for what inspired Fleming, it is just a melange of his personal experiances as someone in the spying community during the second world war, stories of others and that bird book which Brosnan can be seen reading in DAD.

I remember the book now. It's called "Camp X" by Eric Walters. It's actually a little kid's book *blushes*, but it's really good and the explanations in the back are almost worth reading the whole book for.

Roger Moore was Ian Flemmings first choice to play bond in the movies but Roger moore was by no means the guy who inspired the bond character.

well it seems to be, Jarred McBrian.. inspired james bond, he has the style, and the guns, and the flare with women, also the corny and cheesyness, and i'm not talking about his feet, i mean the film...

He had something to do with either the Navy Intelligence or something of that nature. Or atleast, he was trained to, whether he actually was in the business or not.

I was interested in your mentioning John Benedick Brown. Is he the real James Bond? There is strong evidence to support that proposition.

You may like to have a look at this URL http://infoasis.8k.com

Also, John is alive and well, you seem to imply that he is dead. Not so!
