You guys are cracked out. Hulk was pretty decent, if a little slow getting started. And yeah, okay, the end was kinda lame, but still. Every moment that the Hulk was on-screen was stellar, in my opinion. But I digress, this is the wrong thread for that.
Best Actor of 2003 (thus far): Bill Moseley. I just can not wait to see more of Otis.
Best Flick: I hate to say this, for some reason, but X2. The all-around most satisfying cinematic experience thus far this year.
Director: Damn, but that's tough. Lawrence Kasdan did a pretty good job with "Dreamcatcher", I thought. I'm not saying the movie was great, but the direction at least was notable.
Actress: Famke Janssen. Guh.
Supporting Actor: Nick Nolte in the Hulk. I was very impressed, as I've never really cared for him much before, but I really liked his performance here.
Supporting Actress: Sheri Moon. Scary and sexy at the same time.
Honorable Mention: Final Destination 2. Underrated as hell. Just a fun, entertaining movie. Great stuff, great stuff.
And that be that.

#1 MOVIE IS....
X2, THIS FLICK GAVE ME THAT "EMPIRE STRIKES BACK" FEELING. WHICH I'VE ONLY FELT TWICE IN MY LIFE (TWO TOWERS EVERYBODY!!!). THIS BLOWS THE FIRST ONE AWAY, AND FOR THOSE WHO DON'T GIVE THIS FLICK AT LEAST A 9/10, I THINK YOUR OPINION IS ONE OF PURE IDIOCY 10/10...
TERMINATOR 3, IMPRESSIVE, VERY IMPRESSIVE, I WAS BASHING AND CRAPPING ON THIS MOVIE SO MUCH BEFORE I SAW IT BECAUSE I SWORE IT WAS GOING TO BE HORRIBLE, I WOULD HAVE BET MY SOUL ON IT (I GUESS IT BELONGS TO THE DEVIL NOW) I MEAN NO JAMES CAMERON, NO SARAH CONNER, AND A GIRL TERMINATOR!?, THIS IS ALL ABOUT $$$ NOT A CHANCE IN HELL THIS MOVIE WAS GOING TO BE GOOD TO ME, I WAS WRONG, SO WRONG, THE THING THAT BLEW ME AWAY ABOUT THIS MOVIE WAS HOW THEY INTERTWINED IT PERFECTLY WITH THE FIRST TWO, I MEAN WHAT AN AMAZING ENDING, THE MOVIE JUST MAKES A FULL CIRCLE FOR THE TRILOGY, I JUST WISH IT WAS A LITTLE MORE SERIOUS BUT FU.CK IT, I THINK JAMES CAMERON WAS STUPID TO TURN THIS DOWN, VERY VERY STUPID 9/10...
MATRIX RELOADED, I HATED THIS MOVIE WHEN I FIRST SAW IT, I NEVER KNEW I COULD HATE A MOVIE SO MUCH, THAT IS UNTIL I WENT BACK AND SAW THE FIRST ONE AGAIN, THEN I TOLD MYSELF TO GIVE IT ONE MORE CHANCE, I MEAN BECAUSE THE 1ST ONE WAS A CLASSIC AND SOO GOOD, IT WAS BRILLIANT, HOW CAN THE SEQUEL BE SOO BAD, I MEAN THIS IS A ONE OF A KIND STORY!! AND WHEN I SAW IT AGAIN, I LOVED IT. THE THING ABOUT MY FIRST VIEWING (AND I THINK ALOT OF THE PEOPLE WHO DIDN'T LIKE IT EITHER) WAS THAT I DIDN'T PAY MUCH ATTENTION TO THE DIALOUGE BECAUSE IT WAS SO MUCH MORE IN DEPTH THAT THE FIRST ONE, THE FIRST ONE WAS EASIER TO UNDERSTAND, THIS ONE TAKES ALOT OF ATTENTION REQUIRED TO FULLY UNDERSTAND IT, WHEN I DID UNDERSTAND IT, I THOUGH T IT WAS BRILLIANT, NOT A CLASSIC LIKE THE FIRST BUT THE PHILOSOPHY AND INTRIGUEING STORY IS MIND BOGGLING. I STILL HATE THAT GODDAMN RAVE SCENE MINUS 2 POINTS FOR THAT ALONE! 8/10...
THE HULK/ I SAW THIS MOVIE STONED OUT OF MY MIND AND I LIKED IT, SO THAT MUST MEAN THAT WHEN I SEE IT WHEN I'M SOBER, IT IS GONNA BE HUNDRED TIMES BETTER, IT TOOK A LITTLE WHILE FOR THE MOMENTUM TO FLOW, BUT I LOVED HOW IN THE HULK HE'S NOT JUST YOUR TYPICAL SUPERHERO, THERES REALLY NO VILLIAN DRESSED UP IN A CAPE TERRORIZING THE CITY, ITS JUST ABOUT HIM AND HIS STRUGGLE WITH HIMESELF, I THOUGHT IT WAS ONE OF A KIND, THE ONLY THING I GREW TIRED OF WAS THE GODDAMN, MULTIPLE ANGLES THAT WERE USED TOO EXCESSIVELY, SOME PEOPLE DIDN'T LIKE THE SPECIAL EFFECTS AND EXPECTED MORE. MORE? STOP YOUR COMPLAINING, IT LOOKS FINE, IT NOTHING REVOLUTIONARY BUT IT WAS BELIEVABLE. IT WAS A GOOD MOVIE AND I CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH IT WHEN I'M SOBER 8/10...
I NEED TO SEE CRADLE OF LIFE....
I HATE THAT GODDAMN RAVE SCENE IN THE MATRIX RELOADED!!!!
All that yelling is gonna make the children go deaf, INFIDELIC. Cut out the caps lock...
In no order because I'm too lazy to classify them
Matrix Reloaded
Phone Booth
Pirates of the Caribbean
X2
DareDevil (Say what you want, I thought it rocked)

the best movie of the year is finding nemo so far. highest grossing film of the year to date. my personal favs are:
1. Terminator 3
2. X2
3. Pirates of the Carribean
Most disappointing movies:
1. Matrix Reloaded (i think most people agree on this)
2. Daredevil (great comic book, horrible adaptation)
3. The Hulk (except for the last hour of the movie)
just plain dumb ideas for a movie:
1. Justin 2 Kelly
2. Charlie's Angels 2 (dont see why they made a sequel $$$$$)
3. Down with Love (what happened to this movie)
surprises of the year:
1. Pirates of the Carribean
2. Dumb and Dumberer (subject to opinion; like it or hate it)
3. Finding Nemo (made more money then anyone expected)
of course, this list will change with such great(joke) upcoming titles as jeeper's creepers 2, freddy vs jason, and Tomb Raider 2. god hollywood releases ALOT of crap. LOTR: ROTK will be the highest grossing film of the year, might even have a chance to crack the top 5 movies of all time.

Personally i dont think it's been that great of a year for movies in terms of Box Office except for Matrix Reloaded, Finding Nemo, Bruce Almighty and X2.
Personally i love PIXAR movies yet i still think Finding Nemo is the least best Pixar movie yet, it's good but i rank it below the others but that hasn't stop it making alot of money which i knew would happen.
Matrix Reloaded has taken alot of stick but i think it was rather good not better than the orginal i think of Matrix Reloaded as a fan flick, popcorn material enjoyable and fun and shouldn't be taken to serious otherwise people would slam it which has happen from some people.
Bruce Almight to me isn't a hit but has hit the box office pretty well, Jim Carrey was someone everyone loves when he just makes comedys and not those stupid serious movies he searches for, take exception of The Trueman show which was a very good movie, Jim Carrey should stick to comedys which is best for everyone. Still Bruce Almight was as well good but not that funny still worth a watch.
X2 has been one of the best movies so far in box office terms i loved that movie everything about it was great i'm glad how the movie was shown should have done more in the Box Office but when you open 2 weeks before Matrix Reloaded everyone knew it has to makes 70% of its earning before Matrix Reloaded open.
Identity to me has been the best film of the year so far what a ripper of a film just Awesome.
PhoneBooth was also very good great to Joel Schumacher do a good film again.
Italian Job and Charlies Angels were fun flicks as well.
Hulk was a semi good movie semi bad, while people say it was great they are kidding themselves if they wanted to make it like a real story about depth and love etc, they should of look at X-MEN for a example i say.
Daredevil still wasn't that great either in my books.

happy to see we share the same opinion ...
i cant say enough of how much ROTK will top everyone's list at the end of the year.. its gonna be mind blowing ... a massive movie ..
other possible list makers of the year are ...
kill bill volume 1 and 2
SWAT
once upon a time in mexico
underworld
master and commander
the last samurai
alamo
paycheck
peter pan
other contenders but wont make the list i think
runaway jury
the whole ten yards
cold mountain
stuck on you
love actually
intolerable cruelty
matchstick men
freddy vs. jason
there u go ...
the end of year should be something like
1. rotk
2. pirates of the caribbean
3. matrix reloaded/matrix revolutions
4. kill bill 1 and 2
5. swat or alamo or paycheck

bottom 3
1. dumb and dumber
2. charlies angels 2
3. bruce almighty
JohnnyBgood
07-19-2003, 05:51 PM
1. Matrix Reloaded
2. Terminator 3
3. LXG
4. X2
5. Hollywood Homicide
No real complaints, I thought Charlie's angels was okay, nothing insulting, and Phone Booth was great, whats with the hating, yo? Yeah, phone booths are scary now...;)
Hulk and the Italian Job, were almost up there...
And I still havn't seen Identity or Bruce almighty.
Daredevil was garbage, saved only by its great, dark atmosphere and an hero, although intriquing at first, but, yes but, a hero who needs more fleshing out nonetheless...

Pirates of the Carribean ( the best film so far), Terminator 3, Matrix Reloaded, X2
ROTK will top them all, twice for the hell of it
Citizen Kane

Yeah, I really think ROTK will be the best. You see I don't care that I've never seen it, I just know that it has to be the best because I am devoted to LOTR, I don't really even think of letting any other films have a chance to top this idealized wonder-movie in my mind!
Anyways, any updates people? I've updated my number one pick, and it will probably be updated again soon..

Given that we haven't seen RotK yet, but it so obviously will be amongst most people's favourites of the year, so we'll assume it'll be on virtually every list by the end of 2003.
My absolute favourite of the year is Pirates of the Caribbean, just so much fun.
The rest of my faves from 2003 (may include some 2002 ones due to UK release dates) in no particular order :
T3
Buffalo Soldiers
Equilibrium
Sweet Sixteen
Love Liza
Spider
25th Hour
Dolls
The Moose

for me: TTT, i know that it came out in 2002, but i saw it at least once in 2003, so it is a 2003 film for me. the best film i have seen released this year would be either T3 of Matrix Reloaded, but neither of them were that great

If you haven't added "Seabiscuit" to your best of the year list, you must not have seen the movie yet. Do yourselves a favor, go see "Seabiscuit". It's the best movie I've seen so far this year, and has the best male acting (from all 3 co-leads) I've seen so far this year (though if I had to pick out a single performance in the movie, it would be Jeff Bridges).

So far this is what has captured my attention way more than anything else so far, but I"m suspecting Human Stain, In the Cut, Darkness, Return of the King and Big Fish will knock alot of those choices off. :applaud:

hmmm... i dont see how potc is the movie of the year cause i saw it and didnt enjoy it as much as i thought i would. a lot of ppl r making such a fuss. then again there wasnt a whole lot of choices. anyhow heres my top choices:
1.x2 :applaud:
2.finding nemo (i think this has got to be one of the funniest movie ever) :clapper:
3.t3
4.hulk
5.potc  the only good thing bout this movie that kept it afloat was johnny deep performence
u could tell he was having a lot of fun making that movie...n thats what made watch the whole movie without fidgeting a lot.
daredevil how can anyone say daredevil was good?! daredevil has got to be one of the worst adaptation from comic to film ever. what threw me off daredevil was the casting of ben affleck! i would have chosen matt damon since he fits the profile and he has blond hair. the only good thing bout daredevil was the soundtrack
hopefully revolution will be a lot better than reloaded

10. Underworld
- I don't care what you think, it was better than everything after number ten.
9. Bad Boys II
- Loved the blood and gun fights.
8. Matchstick Men
- I think Cage did a great job, and I loved the curveball they threw at the end with his daughter.
7. Confidence
- I really like good grifter flicks.
6. Basic
- Though it doesn't say much, one of the better Travolta Flicks. Plus I really like Sam Jackson.
5. Freddy Vs. Jason
- It was so deliciously stupid and evil!
4. DysFunktional Family
- Love standup. LOVE IT! Eddie is the Man!
3. Old School
- Will and Vince YEAH! FRANK THE TANK! FRANK THE TANK!
2. Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl
- Depp's acting and Keira's looks...Ummmm.....This movie simply had everything that I look for in a great action movie. (Except for Excessive Swearing)
1. The Matrix Reloaded
- The Matrix is one of my all time favorite movies and the first sequel is the best Sci-Fi Action I have seen since the original. I couldn't be happier with the story. I love that it has gotten more complex than the first and Reloaded had the best action scenes I have seen all year.

"Pirates" definitely beats out "Reloaded", come on! Too much dialogue (though much of it was quite interesting and even important to the storyline), too many long, pointless scenes (dancing in Zion and the fight with the "Many-Me's" of Agent Smith).
And Underworld? Oh, please. Aside from the fact that this film had Werewolves and Vampires as its primary characters, this thing was cliche after cliche in the story. Terminator 3 was better than this. I'll take a few really bad jokes and little music over cliche storyline and stupid special effects shots (like how everytime a werewolf attacked, it would show the thing's head biting down at the camera and then go to black).
While T3 did a little "violence-dodging" of it's own (moving the camera away for several T-X kills and that stupid "blood splattering on the picture" scene), at least they used some make-up effects like for that shot with the arm ripping through the guy and driving the car.
I was, however, happy to see a pretty kick-ass heroine in Underworld (even if she was a little mix of Trinity and Blade). We need more bad-ass women out there. Something that Charlies Angels and Tomb Raider just don't qualify for.

Oh jeez. When I see Reloaded and Underworld and Charlies Angels 2 on people's top ten, I know they have seen hardly anything of what good cinema has to offer.
Just a taste of what the tops on my list would be:
Finding Nemo
pixar's fifth movie is a pure delight. go see it unafraid of perhaps enjoying it more than the kids do.
Dogville
lars von trier's movie about a fugitive who comes to a small town in the Rockies is an intimate film about people. sounds boring, but after a thorough set up turns creepy as hell. Refreshing cinema, yet jarring.
Pirates of The Caribbean
The best 'mindless' film of the year. just pure fun. and as happens too rarely, we laugh with the film, not at the film
Phone Booth
This'll show major studios that you can make a tight thriller without a huge budget or a long shooting schedule. shot over fifteen days, this is a real nail biter.
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
George clooney's directorial debut actually premiered in December but was overlooked by almost everyone. I had the pleasure of seeing it on DVD and wow. comedy/thriller/drama - whatever you call it, it is unique, and will make you laugh while maintaining it's suspense and disturbing factor. look out for a cameo by brad pitt and matt damon.
I'm not saying Reloaded wasn't good. I liked it. And x2 could very well be in my top ten. As could the HUlk and t3. but to include crap like CA2 and LC2 is beyond me. I have yet to see Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Veronica Guerin. Other Movies that could very well squeeze in there are The Human Stain, Master and Commander, Revolutions and The Return of the King. And If you have the chance to see the Swedish film 'Ondskan' (The Evil) do so.
