I was wondring if anyone has heard anything about the new spawn movie. I know that they were talking about making it a lot darker than the first one which was a big disappointment. I'm looking forward to seeing the new version and I was just wondering if anyone had any info.

I remeber it was scheduled to being production Early last yeah, i havent heard much since then, only that Todd McFarlane wasnt happy with New Line and began looking for a new studio to do this movie....
This was the teaser poster released for it

Man that sucks because I remeber the buzz being that the new movie was going to be really violent like the comic book and the animated series that used to come on HBO. I can see Todd getting pissed though. he probably was getting put on the back burner because it seems like all new line cares about now is Lord of the Rings; their big cash cow. Maybe if Todd would stop wasting time buying baseballs and more time concentrating on spawn, he can get this movie made.

New Line were kind of Bummish about it
McFarlane wanted Spawn 2 to be an R rated movie, New Line didnt like this as it would "cut out" Half the spawn audience....
I dont think McFarlane wants to make another PG-13 Spawn movie as he doesnt have as much freedom as he would like

He should've stuck with the cartoon series. It's a damn shame that it didn't find a fan base to keep it running.

I think he would have but I believe when the movie fizzled out so did HBO. They seem to be pretty fickle like that.

You know Todd could make a R rated movie now cause majority of the audience has grown up to where they can see a R rated Spawn 2. I'm really hoping that it comes out soon while the whole comic book movie thing is still a hot item, at least that way he can get more money to make the second one better.

That teaser poster is pretty cool. I hate it when a movie with so much potential gets held up from production. Spawn 2 should've been released like 2 years ago. Instead it's in production Hell. No pun intended.

Come on now the movie didn't suck. It could have been better but I don't think it sucked. I do think Del Toro would be an awsome person to direct the new installment though.

Well here are some bad news from Comics2Film from Dom Murphy

"Also at Sony is the second "Spawn" movie, a sequel to a film made at a different studio. Hans Rodionoff wrote the latest script that one. "Sam and Twitch are prominent characters. This movie is smaller and have perhaps even a cooler and scarier."

However, in spite of the current heat on superhero fare, things are not moving quickly with the studio.

"We turned in the draft to Sony. Sony's a mess. I'm not sure where that stands at the moment," Murphy lamented. "If Sony doesn't make it I'm sure that New Line would want their franchise back."

Too bad isn't it ?

Same person I was thinking of. If New Line or whoever picks it up lets Del Toro pull a Blade 2, I'm so watching it the first day it comes out.

i think a spawn sequel could work they just need a bigger budget and it needs to be R rated. Plus it needs to be longer than the first.

While I disliked the original, a sequel could be pretty cool. There is definitely potential in the character if he's handled right.
