I hope for this addition, they finally end Brosnan's stint as Bond by having him do a movie based on a Fleming novel. Many have suggested Casino Royale, but have they actually read it? Its practically unfilmable given that the story plays more like a drama, and is way too short. If you want proof of that, go watch the Barry Nelson tele-movie. Its very accurate to the novel (ok, so they made him American) and proves the point. Besides, many Bond movies already borrow heavily from that novel already.
So which novel you ask? All the novels have been filmed save Casino Royale. Well, not quite. The Spy Who Loved Me was a Fleming novel and a Roger Moore film, but Moore's film adaptation was not an adaptation at all since only the title rights were secured. Plot and characters (save Bond and his entourage). Thus, there lies my pick for the next Bond movie.

Actually i think Fleming refused to sell the plot to TSWLM, he always felt it was his worst novel, so he only sold EON the title (EON could possible try to purchase the rights from who ever owns them now, but they can't just go ahead and make the film)
they still could however use some of flemings ideas from previous novels. You see, so much has been altered or changed from the novels when they made it to film (LALD being based on tresure for example)that they could take those points and make an entire plot.
So they could easily take an unused plot from a novel and make it into a film (similar to what they did for LTK - which was pretty much strung together from parts of Flemings books unused for the film versions - felix losing a leg to the shark for instance was)

Are you kidding? After the shockingly awful Die Another Day, the Bond producers should get back to the original novels as soon as possible.

well DAD was not awful, it was alot better then moonraker or AVTAK, and they really can't get back to the novels, because the only full novel unfilmed (by EON) is casino royale
the only way they can reincorporate fleming is to take unused ideas from the novels (which won't make an entire story, so producers will have to come up with their own plot)
face it, the Bond of the 60's will never return, unless somebody finds a box of unpublished fleming works

I'm not really sure what could be done with "The Spy Who Loved Me". As far as the story goes, its one of Fleming's short stories. The same book has "View to a Kill" in it.
There is a absolute crap-load of story ideas that haven't been used yet from the Bond novels.
The novels: "Dr. No", "You Only Live Twice", "Moonraker", "Man w/ the Golden Gun", and "Live and Let Die" all have fantastic ideas and scenes that never made it into their respective films.
I think "You Only Live Twice" has the best villan's lair. A japanese castle with a garden filled with every type of poisonous plant on the planet.
Good ideas are still in the books. The question is, is the Bond franchise willing to re-discover James Bond.

they need to bring back Blofeld, i know bond "killed" him but they could easily bring him back, it could bring up feeling of tracy (which i don't think a Brosnan film has, the last reference i remember was in LTK)

Normally I would protest about resorting to old characters but ****, they need some sort of revival. If it takes Blofeld or Blofeld's son or something (Felix Lieter would be great as well) then that's fine.

one thing i've thought about would be a son for Felix
Felix would be great too, but with his whole leg thing it would be kind of awkword (he would always have to be at a desk or in a safe location)
now i know a son of Felix has never been mentioned but heear me out. The only time we've really seen Felix's personal life was in LTK at his wedding and yes, no son was ever mentioned
But heres what they could do, create a character in his 20's and create a back story for him, have it so that he and his father never really got along (even include a comment about how he skipped his own fathers wedding because they had a fight) he would work for the CIA and be named Felix Leiter Jr.
Now the key to making this work would be to as opposed to his father, Felix jr and Bond, wouldn't see eye to eye, Bond would see jr as a young hot shot in the CIA, where as Felix would see Bond as a out of his prime agent.
it could work, plus it would be a perfect spin off property for MGM, and we all know how they love those

The Spy who loved me is the only bond novel written by Fleming that is through another person's POV. Its been a few years since I read it, but it is the story of a girl who is travelling through the eastern US (Appalachian N.Y i think) and becomes a hostage in a motel that a few dumb thugs are holding up. James Bond shows up by total accident after his car broke down on his way to D.C and he saves the day, does the girl and is classic Bond, but it is the story told by the girl's view. And yes it is very short it only took a few hours to read. You couldn't make this into a film there are too many things that just aren't excititng enough. The beginging of the novel is a few chapters discussing the girl's past and why she is where she is, blah blah blah.
Hope I was insightful.

well seeing as fleming said he though TSWLM was his worst book, i don't know if i would want to see it on the big screen, plus 77's TSWLM was just so perfect

Blofeld coming back would be an okay idea.
But I've got a better one. :D
Why not bring back the character that was truely behind the Chinese invovment in "Tomorrow Never Dies"? Carver's attempt at getting the US and China at war could potentially bring attention to this character's chemical weapons labs in eastern China.
Why not bring back the character whose daughter fought along side James Bond in "Tomorrow Never Dies" to help cover for her father's new secret empire that she could possibly take over....unless her brother does first.
Why not bring back the character that used money he embezzeled from SPECTRE's South American drug deal mentioned during "Thunderball" to rebuild his empire. After all he did it to the Chinese Red Tong's to build his first empire.
Bring back the former #1 and first head of SPECTRE.
The return of Dr. No.
A dying super-villian attempts to settle old debts and decide which of his children will take over and reinvent SPECTRE.
If his son can successfully kill James Bond, he will take over his father's work as head of world crime. If his daughter can get James Bond to kill her brother, she becomes the new head of SPECTRE.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
M: James, does the name Dr. No mean anything to you?
James Bond: Dr. No. Its been a few lifetimes since I last heard that name.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
James Bond-21, The Return of Dr. No
Never coming to a theater near you because its to good of an idea.
BTW-This would be absolutely perfect for Brosnen's last Bond flick. It would give the new Bond a great spring board as the end of this film would be somewhat of a cliffhanger. Add to the fact that MichelleYeoh's character, as the new head of SPECTRE, could be the female equivilant of Blofeld. You wouldn't have to worry about using the same actress as the head of SPECTRE would constantly have her appearence changed, much the same way Blofeld did.
Side Note: This is an idea of mine and I'm just getting opinions. But if this does become a film without me being contacted, I will sue you into the ground.

Not bad but around here it sounds like a buddy cop film.

Another great part of that story is Bond facing off against a Kracken.
Made for great reading but that would be REALLY hoaky if they tried to put that in a Bond film.
They really haven't used the escape through the pipes from the Dr. No novel as well. They alluded to it in the film, but I loved the evil and dastardly atmosphere about it from the book.

well Dr no is dead, he really can't return like a character like Blofeld could

Jarbacca-Blofeld is dead as well. Bond dropped him and his wheelchair in a smoke stack at the beginning of "For Your Eyes Only" remember?
From my understanding it was a tongue in cheek stab at the recurrence of the character of Blofeld throughout the History of the Bond films.
Kind of the Broccoli's way of saying "No more Blofeld."

Actually it was because Kevin McClory was going to include Blofeld in the non EON bond film Never say never again, Brocoli decided that they would make it so that NSNA wouldn't fit in to the films because they brought back a dead character
kind of a way of saying F*** you to McClory, for screwwing them over

man i love bond movies. i don't like the idea of having a felix jr simply b/c it dates bond. i realize pierce is in his fifties now but after bond 21 i believe they should recast young but keep bond's history. i mean, they proved with DAD that bond doesn't age. its like batman comics...batman has been going since 1939 and yet he has aged maybe 10 years. if we give a felix jr it makes bond look like an older agent and it wouldn't mesh well when a younger bond takes over the role.
as for the return of blofeld..i think he should stay dead. but i would love to see the return of spectre...or maybe smersh from the novels. smersh was an organization of assasins that killed spies. i believe they were russian in origin but i'm not sure. bond mistakes red grant as an agent of smersh in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE. they could tie this organization to the current war on terror and have bond investigating a series of kills on spies from a terror organization.
well...its a thought.

I can't believe "Never Say Never Again" was even made.
Personally I agree that the return of SMERSH or SPECTRE would reviatlize the franchise.
They're going to need something pretty soon. Their best script ideas stemmed from the cold war. Bond needs to go up against an antagonist organization again.
Maybe not the return of Dr. No, but it would be cool for his lineage to begin fighting Bond.

I coulda sworn Brosnan said "This will be my last Bond Film" on three different occasions...
Jarbacca
06-28-2003, 11:32 AM
My only complaint with Brosnan is that he's demanding the studios only do the films every three years
I love him as bond but if a new actor means a return to the 2 year gaps then, i would say let Brosnan go, he probably only got one film left in him anyways
Alexander JL
06-30-2003, 08:21 AM
I'm not sure he's even GOT one film left in him.
Just look at the promotional material for DAD. He looks ancient! I have no doubt he'll end up pulling a Roger Moore before he quits his Bond reign.

i'll bet bond goes on a mission, it doesn't go like its supposed to, he sleeps with a girl and she ends up being bad so he kills her and then he sleeps with a smart and tough girl and saves the world by the end of the movie.

wow. i just read that spiderman. i must say i've been a member here for sometime and jarbacca was one of the first people i met. i came to know and respect him rather well. i don't care about threads being closed personally but it did seem that kimy and jarbacca were right. even it does seem like chatting and its "pointless" it shouldn't bother the mods. iben, frizzo and jbond overreacted and really showed some childish behavior. jarbacca did as well but he wasn't a mod. you can't ban people b/c they disagree with you. and as for threats, come on. i've been threatened a lot worse than that on these boards. its just words on a screen. still no reason to ban anyone. well thats my two scents.

For the new Bond film they don't have to go back to the novels or bring back an old villain. They just need to focus more on the storyline.
