I was watching Big Brother as you do and Jon (a guy on the inside) started talking about Star Wars. So I listen in and he goes on about the Star Wars books. I've read some books but they are nothing like the movies. Anyway he starts going on about Her and Han having kids and people all dieing. Kids, I know about the kids. Dieing who died?

"Did you know Chewbacca is dead?"
Answer: No :eek:! How could they kill Chewy!? He then said that the Millennium Falcon is still going. They kill Chewy but they keep the Falcon! I'm not happy.

Does anyone know how he died?

this was huge news when it happend, most SW fans new about it even if they didn't read the book, because every SW website did stories on it

The only storylines from the Star Wars trilogy that I take seriously are the ones provided and written by George Lucas.

I realize that the books have his blessing, but they are not from the man himself.

Just to add a point, so people don't start saying; "What the hell, Anakin died in Return of the Jedi!"
Han and Leia's son was named after his grandfather. That's who Chewy was saving. I think.

hold on now......is this in some alternate reality in a book loosley based on the movies - cause Chewy is alive @ the end of ROTJ and Anakin dies and is BBQ.

Okay, from someone who actually read the book in which he died...

He was on a planet, and the planet's moon crashed into it (its orbit was out of whack for some reason... can't remember why.) He heroically managed to lift Anakin (Han &Leia's son) onto the ship to escape, but he himself could not get away, and the moon crashed into him. Kind of dumb, but there you have it.


What made this really pointless was that Anakin himself died a few books later. Jeez, why kill of Chewie to save a character that has no future anyway?

Some unknown writter concocked that storyline in order to sell yet another crappy EU book. They set around one night and figured that they could make headlines if they killed off a major character from the classic Trilogy and with Darth Vader and the Emperor already gone There choices became limited.......

Luke Skywalker -------(Lucasfilm would never allow it)
Leia -------------(Same deal,)
Han Solo -------------- ( Hell would freeze over first )

So with those out of the way it came down to poor old Chewbacca the one that could go away without creating a uproar against the EU and also generate enough book sales to make some folks rich provided they share some % with Lucas himself. However, There was a Star Wars Fan Uproar against the EU and it continues to this day.

I don't see what was so bad about killing off Chewy. It makes things more exciting if you know that the heros can actually die. And Chewy wasn't really being used for much of anything other than a babysitter in most of the novels anyway. Also, he owed Han a life-debt, didn't he? Therefore, he served his purpose by giving up his life to help Han (or Han's son, in this case.)

If you wanted Chewbacca to go down, they should have done it in Return of the Jedi. Prehaps have Boba Fett blast him on the sail barge before Han sends Fett rocketing down into the Sarlacc. Now that would have added something to the Movie indeed.

As for the Books, They suck with the exception of the Thawn series which turned out to be the only ones that felt like Star Wars.

if its not posted already cuz i didnt read all of the posts he died on a planet called Sernpidal when the moon crashed into the planet. anankin solo was piloting the ship and chewie was still on the surface and there were 50 ppl on the falcon and anikan thought chewy was on board and took off but chewy was left behind and got crushed but he wa defiant to the end he growled at the moon

No. If Chewy dies early in the movie, then he won't be there on Endor to save Han and Leia and then they wouldn't be able to open the blast doors, thereby destroying the force field generator. Oh and we wouldn't get to see him swinging on the rope doing the Tarzan yell either. :D
