This movie comes out next month, March 14, limited release then possibly expanding afterwards.
I've been waiting for this one for a long time. It's got sorta weird cast, but looks promising. Christina Ricci is the lead with Jason Biggs, Anne Heche and Jessica Lange (she's also in Big Fish) as supporting. Michelle Williams, from Dawsons Crack......I mean Creek, is in this.
Here's THE TRAILER. (http://anon.ifilm.speedera.net/anon.ifilm/qt/portal/2454844_200.mov)
I'm kinda hoping it's all dark and twisted, they way drug movies USED to be, I need a new one to add to my favourites, and last years Salton Sea didn't really leave me allthat satisfied, so here's hopin'.......

Oh, another reason I'm psyched is because Erik Skjoldbjærg, the writer/director of the original 1997 Norwegian Insomnia is directing this one, so it's his, like, North American debut, and that's always promising.....

It looks good - but why is it that it was on the toronto film festival in 2001 - 18 months ago - and hasn't been released in the US yet!!

Premise: Based on the best-selling novel, set in the mid-1980's before the prevalence of anti-depressants, it follows a young working class woman's (Ricci) bout with depression during her first year at Harvard even as she lives the fast life of a music critic.. The film explores this generation's struggle to navigate the effects of divorce, drugs, sex, and an overbearing mother (Lange).
Oh and here's the website! (http://www.miramax.com/prozacnation/) It's not too active now but it might be soon.
I dunno, maybe.......

I definitely want to catch this, but Greeley rarely falls under the "limited release" list. Maybe Devner will get it....

My only problem is that it seems every drug movie now has to have a Requiem for a Dream shooting-up montage. I mean, the trailer for this looked almost identical to the trailer for Requiem for a Dream, except set at a college. I'm going into this one hesitant...

Well, that WAS the trailer, lots of trailers are altered from the original film, although I can see some shots will be all sped up or whatever. But as long as it's done artistically well and in a relavant way to the addiction (like Requiem was) then I have no problem with that; It's not like Requiem invented that sped up shot for this meduim.
Anyways, I think it's more about being depressed than taking drugs, the prozac's probably more of a backdrop.....

I'll see it. I like Christina Ricci and the book was pretty good. But I've been waiting for freaking ever for it to come out. Stupid ass Elizabeth Wurtzel was making dumb comments after 9/11 and they had to push the date back because of her.

Hey, d'you guys hear??? This movie's been held back?!?!
From Upcomingmovies:
"Well, just four days before that release date, the news has hit the web that this movie won't be in theaters this Friday after all! There's no word about when it might be rescheduled. Given how long this film's been in the can now, I'm left wondering... might Miramax be sending it direct to cable or video?"
So what the hell?!?! I was friggen ready to see this movie??? The local paper even said it'd be released downtwon this Friday!! So what gives?? Man, I need to start stabbing random passer-bys until I get answers!!!........(STAB!!!).......

But now the new release date is June 6th, in select cities....
I wonder, does all this moving around mean it's a good movie or a bad one?? Maybe they moved it to the summer cause they thought they'd get a bigger take out of it....

Yeah, I really want to see this movie but I will have to wait until it comes out on video. I would put money down on it not coming out around where I live. :(
But it sounds like a good one.

Have you guys read the book?
afterthought
10-12-2004, 12:57 AM
First. I have read the book and it is really good. I am curious as to how it will all play out. There are a lot of details in the books I hope that the movie will honor them. I have the same quesiton as everyone... When it this movie coming out? I have been waiting so long. AOL says it comes out Dec 31 of this year but I think that they said that because its the last day of this year. But it is a Friday so I am not sure. The website is a little skimpy as far as details... Let me know.

Holy Shnikes!! This thing was created TWO YEARS ago, minus a few weeks. Feburaray 2003!! And it had a weird re-birth there for a while, thing just won't die. I was so young back then, ****-eyed optemist...
Man, and I STILL haven't seen this movie, what the hell ever happened to it??...from the looks of it, it never got an American release??
