Post Anyone else really picky about the condition of their books?

Anyone else really anal about the condition of their books? I never crease the spine, and when people ask to borrow my books, I'm usually pretty uneasy about letting them have it.

I figure, hell, I paid for it, I want it to stay nice. I know some people who just wreck the stuff they read and I hate it.

It's like I feel some kind of respect for books or something. That probably sounds weird... I dont know...

Oh, and I mean any book that isn't a high school or college textbook. I couldn't care less about those!:p

Yeah I feel the same way, if someone wants to lend me some old copy of a book I instead go out and buy a nice new one. That way when I'm done with it it's neat and on my shelf as a token that I read it.

You = Anal. Me = Wrecker.

I start with the dust cover. What's the point? Hello? Ripped, put in the bin.

Then, to make it easier to keep open, I break the spine as I read.

I lend left right and centre. I value friends more than paper.

They're BOOKS ffs.

I actually like my books to look read. Not mangled, dirty, marked or anything dumb like that, just loved.

My original copy of The Hobbit, has a sun bleached cover, dog-eared yellow pages, and the spine of a 90 year old weight lifter. I wouldn't have it any other way. That book and I have 20 years of history.

When I see a collection of pristine books, I always wonder if the person has actually read any of them or are they just trying to impress people.

"Yessir, the check is in the mail."

I tend to be pretty gentle with the new books I get, but I really don't care what condition they are in if I buy them used.

When I get a book (papreback) I'm usually pretty gentle with it, I like it to look read but not damaged. The only thing that really bothers me is if the spine is cracked alot, I'm always worried that the pages will fall out. I have no problem with lending books out. If I can get a used book thats fine.

Hardcovers I'm a little different with, those I want to keep looking nice, I always keep the dust jacket but never have it on while I'm reading or taking the book any where, when I am finished reading the Dust jacket goes back on the book, back on the shelf. I also hate it when people don't use book marks with my hardcover books so I rarely lend them out.

I hate hardcover books so I usually avoid them if possible. Other than that, my books are dog earred and creased to hell.

i'm very picky withn a condition of a book. I don't like to crease the paper(it really bothers me) and i like the cover to be neat and clean.

I got a USM TPB #3 from amazon.ca and the cover was bent and peeled apart on one corner. I haven't even read it and it was 'ruined'. I just like to keep things perfect. My Live From New York hardcover had like 200 pages (of 500+) creased. I didn't notice this at the store and I didn't bother trying to exchange thinking they wouldn't believe me and well I don't know. When a book is damaged, what's done is done.

i never used to be, and i used to lend them to who ever, but once i lent a book to my friend, and it was relitively new, and when i got it back 6 months later, it had been ripped, she had spilt soda on it, her dog had chewed on it, her little sister took to the inside cover with pencils and it smelt pretty bogus, so i dont lend books to people any more unless i completely trust them
