What are some good horror movies that are based on True Stories?
Personally I've always been fascinated with the Amityville murders, but as far as I know most of the movie was made up.

The Entity
Texas Chainsaw Massacre-I'd love to find out the true story on this one and I'm surprised no one has made it into a movie. |

Btw, Ed Gein was one of the people who inspired the film, and there already is a (IMO) really horrendous (not in a good way) film about him. |

There's also a movie called Dahmer and Ted Bundy. But if you really wanna be shocked, check out an Asian flick called The Untold Story.

Some great, basd on a true story horror films.
William Freidkin's THE EXCORCIST John McNaughton's HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KLILLER Richard Fleischer's THE BOSTON STRANGLER - True story of the DeSavo's capture still one of the best in the genre Richard Fleischer's TEN RILLINGTON PLACE- Tells the story of John Christie and is one disturbing piece of cinema. Jeff Gillan's DERANGED- The best "Ed Gein" movie made Tom Gier's HELTER SKELTER- The definitive Manson film THE JONES TOWN MASSACRE with Powers Booth F T Mous' MAN BEHIND THE SUN- This is the ultimate war crimes film, makes Schindler's List look like a Disney movie. A truly harrowing experience that only the bravest viewer will get through. Beautifully shot and always objective, this film offers no opinions, just shows you what happened in a semi documentary style. Highly recommended. All of these are high quality films that disturb and force the audience to think. Also rank as some of my all time faves.

I just watched this movie some time back, the actor playing Charlie Manson has a very uncanny resemblance to the real Charles Manson, I've also read the book written by Vincent Bugliosi, very creepy but fascinating.

Scary Movie
.Really I think Fargo's real, but I'm not sure if it's completely "horror". It's more of a thriller.' Hannibal is inspired by a real guy. I read it in Red Dragon. Cinescape Magazine claimed it was based off the TCM. |

If you read more about Ed Gein, you'll see that he was the inspiration for Silence of the Lambs and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There are also a couple others, but I can't think of them right now. The Ed Gein movie did suck.
Amityville Horror was a little different than the events that happened, but a scary movie nonetheless. I didn't know the Excorcist was based on a real event Is that the one where it was a young boy about 13 who was possessed by the Devil? The scariest movie of them all.....gigli....HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

OH my god the 70's & early 80's were the hotbed for "true" horror movies
I think The Entity, The Exocist, The Amityville Horror & The Texas Chainsaw Massacare are the freakist movies ever made
