Oh, about the ROTK PHOTO GUIDE PICTURES:
As you all probably noticed by now, TORN had to take them down on request of the publishers, however, you can still take a look at the lot at this french LOTR-site:

 Awesome... Any chance this is from TTT EE as the party is traveling to Orthanc? I don't think so because of the background, and Gimli isn't with them, but just a thought...
EDIT: HEY! They'll all looking up at something, and that something could very well be Orthanc, because I just remembered that Gimli rode with Legolas often (since he had problems with his own horse, and if you look closely, you can see Gimli on the back of Legolas' horse.
So again, end of TTT EE, or beginning of ROTK? I think this would be an awesome opening scene for ROTK (or, sorry, ONE OF THE FIRST SCENES... If I say opening scene, people will jump all over me saying the reforging of Narsil is the opening scene of ROTK, and I don't know anything, and blah blah blah...) ANYWAY... Where does this fit in? JEDI would know, having seen the EE, and being too lazy to go back and read his report (which is right here http://www.comingsoon.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16469), I wasn't sure whether or not we see this group ride to Isengard...

thats what they said these pics were. But thats not right and im 100% positive that pic of the orcs in from TTT.

U know the official site has been doing some weird things with that ROTK photo gallery, the captions read one thing, but the pic shows something else. Like the Faramir pic, it says it is Faramir at pellenor fields, when in reality it is Faramir retreating from Osgliath.

Interesting to note that Eowyn, Theoden, Aragorn etc are considered more important than either Frodo or Sam in the arrangement of this poster: the hobbits are stuffed up in the corner at the back and we can hardly see them. I hope they feature more prominently in the official final poster.

Have you ever thought that they might be doing it on purpose Mis-direction has been a habit of PJ and NL over the course of the 3 films from pictures to trailers to the film itself.

Exactly adt, that inst Uruks heading to Helms Deep as we never see that shot in the movie and even if New Line were purposely mis-leading us, I dont think they would mislead us to the point where they put up shots that are from an entirely different movie.

Yeah, I don't think that poster is the Final one anyway. I love it, but it think it might be just one side. Like several of the TT posters. Some only had Frodo and Sam, others Saruman and his Uruk-hai. I think that one is just a theme poster.....I hope that makes sense to everyone. :p

Well, since it appears that those characters are in the location of orthanc, I assume this would be one of the scenes that depict the road to isengard, which would be a ROTK scene. I'd imagine that the scene would be early in the film.

Glad we got that cleared up then. Like I said all along, it's from the Uraks march to Helm's Deep at the 2hr and 55sec mark of the TTT DVD. :D
(It was the colour grading that got me, and fact that I only checked the first part of the Urak Hai's march during Galadriel's spiel. This is from later during Theoden's lines to Gamling in the Hornburg. :o)

Oh, I would. I'm pretty confident. ;)
It's square for a start, and they would therefore have to re-jig the design quite a lot to accomodate for the extra space of a full theatre poster. It's not just a case of sticking a few more pictures at the top and bottom.
adt100
10-30-2003, 06:03 AM
Not necessarily DA. In fact that's not usually the case in historical battles.
Either way, I'd say that yes it is the Morannon. We've seen various pictures that would support that argument.

No MOS, no real mention of the Morannon at all (except for the few snap shots us fans can pick out), no Frodo/Gollum at the cracks of Doom, no Grey Havens, no Eowyn vs WiKi.

Townsend is much too young, and honestly I'mnot that impressed with what I have seen him in thus far, Though his Dorian Gray was alright. Viggo fits much better. Though I was sad to hear the Daniel Day-lewis turned the role down. He would have been a great Aragorn. BUt Viggo was great as well.

I agree. I recently saw Day-Lewis again in Arthur Miller's Witchhunt and the thought crossed my mind: "Yes, he COULD HAVE BEEN Aragorn!" I am sure he would have done a terrific job. But for it's worth I am glad he turned down the job, as for me Viggo IS Aragorn now. Period. :)

Haha, me neither. I have already planned my TTT EE DVD schedule:
1. Watch TTT EE
2. Listen to the Post-production Commentary
3. Watch all of Disc 4
4. Listen to the Directors Commentary
5. Listen to the Cast Commentary
6. Watch all of Disc 3
7. Watch TTT EE [AGAIN!]
8. Listen to the Design Team Commentary
That order may seem very hackneyed and cack-handed but that's the order that I perused through the FOTR EE DVD so I am keeping with tradition! ;) Oh my, just 18 days. :applaud:

Buying online you usually get it on release day at the latest (if it's a decent store).
Recently I posted what I think is a pretty amazing price for the EE of £17.99 at www.dvd.co.uk.
That's the same price as the TC, whereas most shops will be doing it for £21-£24.

Hey, this isn't a spoiler pic, but it's still a spoiler...
You know the debate about whether or not Elrond travels to Lothlorien? Disc 4 of TTT EE settles it. According to the preview/review I posted in a thread on the EE screenings, Elrond was originally going to travel to Lothlorien when Arwen traveled to Helms Deep to fight. Since Arwen going to Helms Deep was cut, Elrond going to Lothlorien was cut as well. So most likely, he won't be going to Lothlorien in ROTK, though they could still fit something in if PJ saw it neccessary for some reason.
And secondly, for those who can't wait to see the death of Saruman at Isengard at the beginning of ROTK, the EE disc 4 shows a rough cut of the scene that was originally going to appear in TTT.

Grima slits Saurmans throat right and then does he just fall on the ground and bleed to deadth or does he like fall back off the balcony and get impailed by that spike thing. I think getting your throat cut is enough.

i don't know what to think about that death, but i will know if it does justice to the character when i see it.

i know that's how it happend, but it will be how it's shown on the screen that will make it look either good, or hirribly bad in terms of doing justice to the character of Saruman

I am curious on how it will look too. By reading the death scene of Sauruman in ROTK, it sound like it will be cool. Then again, in order for that to happen, it has to be done right.
Actually, I am confident it will look fine.

"Give him the sword of the kings!" and then it leads right into the title--ROTK. The shot after the title will be a post-Helm's Deep scene where they set out to Isengard, so they can focus on Aragorn.
At least, that's what I think should happen.
Another good tie-in is the Crossroads scene. Where Frodo and Sam find the statue of the king, but it's head is gone. On the side of the road, they see the head, but it still has a crown of flowers. Either scene opens up for "Return of the King", IMO.

i'm not too sure how the film will start, but Narsil being reforged is definitely it. but the dialogue in that will be a little interesting. like they can't just walk up, grab the shards, and they say lets reforge this for Aragorn
JEDI_THE_WHITE
11-01-2003, 01:37 AM
I think that the reforging of narsil, will be ONE of the opening scenes, but maybe not THE opening scene.
I am with Turin when I say I would like to open back at helms deep, we left TTT with the hobbits and fans know they were continuing their journey into mordor, so let's open with the aftermath of helms deep.
The Moose
11-01-2003, 01:47 AM
who was it that said that we would get Narsil as teh opening scene, btw?
i can see the sense in an opening at HD, but FOTR and TTT started dramatically, so i think that ROTK will be the same, and the aftermath at HD isn't quite so

i was wondering the exact same thing. its going to be hard to top the opening sequence in TTT. Gandalf vs Balrog has been my favorite scene so far in the movies.

Personnaly I like the idea of NARSIL being reforged as the opener, and then cutting to Sam and Frodo at the Crossroads seeing the head of the fallen King
adt100
11-01-2003, 02:06 PM
Narsil reforged has also been talked of as being 1 of the opening scenes, but I think we will have scenes will Frodo/Sam/Gollum walking to the Crossroads and Gandalf and co. at Helm's Deep departing for Isengard before we see this.
Seeing the trailer it would be extremely difficult to fit the Narsil story at the very beginning. Either way, I think we can all agree the start will be very interesting.

I may have a few scenes out of place in regard to the timescale of the book, but I think it's quite a good estimate, nonetheless. The Journey to the Crossroads, The Steward of Gondor and Many Partings could be incorporated into scenes 1, 6 and 19 respectively.
Isidien

I think that it is quite a good estimate it is quite tricky as the book sets it out so difficultly and also because the end of the two towers is chopped off

Exactly my thoughts, Kaluza. The person who Gandalf is leaning over looks more like Aragorn than Pippen. Maybe this is the showing of Aragorn also looking in to the Palantyr to challenge Sauron(which was alluded to in the book, I believe). Although I don't remember Gandalf being around when he did that. Possibly PJ tweeked this around......but this is all speculation on my part. I'll have to go to the book again for reference

Exactly.
You can see it's a dark picture and 'Pippin' is near the ground, so with Gandalf over him the hair would look darker than its natural colour. Not only does it not remotely resemble Aragorn IMO, but I can't see Gandalf in that position with him either.
We know the situation surrounding Aragorn's confronation with Sauron in the Palantir as have had reports of the scene, and unlike Pippin he can withstand Sauron's gaze.

It's Gimli that finds Pippin, not Gandalf. :)
I thinks its Gandalf checking Pippin after the palantir. The only other character it could be would be Faramir, Merry, or Eowyn . . (from the House of Healing) the profile looks like Billy Boyd though.

I have to say I'm pretty unimpresse with those 2004 calendar pictures.
Not only are most of them identical pics to those on the 2003 calendar, but the composition, colouring and everything is certainly of a much lower standard IMHO.
Either way it confirms yet again that the final colour scheme for ROTK will be blue. I expect therefore that the final theatrical poster will be this hue.

There's a little bit of a difference in the handles(is that the word?) on their swords. Besides, all of the Rohan swords kinda look the same.

These pics are absolutely incredible...
Frodo lying on the slopes of Mt. Doom is my personal fav, but of course Frodo is my favorite character and that's such an emotional part of the story--his last gasp effort up Mt. Doom--that any picture will be amazing.
Sam holding Sting... making up his mind to carry on with the quest without Frodo? Or getting ready to trim his foot hair?

The shot in the trailer when Sam yells "Nooooo!" is probably just before Gollum hits him in the back and knocks him out cold! :D I wonder if Sam's head will bleed?

You know this is just before Samwise kills Shelob... Looks like he is tugging on Frodo's cloak... I personally think that Samwise will kill Shelob... Not quite like the book... PJ will probably give us this kind of closure

It looks more like Shelob has stepped on Sam's cloak to me, and he's trying to pull away from her. Quite likely he'll try and reach out for Sting behind him just in time to stab her in the eyes and underbelly (he doesn't actually kill her in the book.)

Tonight I saw The Matrix again on TBS(the superstation, lol) just to get a glimpse of the ROTK video game commercial that has some footage of the film, I finally caught it, it was so cool!!
You hear someone whispering when the film footage is shown, the person whispers, "Gandalf...." something, something, I couldn't make out the rest of it. It sounded like Pippin.
This film is going to be so HUGE!

matrix will look like a video game compared to ROTK...thats what a reviewer in my country said..he did a review on M3 and thought the movie was like a giant video game which you have no control over...and ROTK will blow it away...

Although, the intensity of the media backlash against TMRev astonishes me (it is only 38% fresh at RottenTomatoes.com) it does make me worry about the kind of critical reception ROTK may get. It seems as though the Matrix franchise has, indeed, outstayed its welcome: two films in the same year didn't help, nor did Warner Bros' ludicrously intense marketing strategies of said films.
And whilst fans of any movie franchise (Matrix, LOTR, SW, HP, American Pie) will go and see 'their' movies no matter what, let's hope and pray the media don't turn on ROTK upon its release.
