I just performed a seach in the TV forum and found that there was no simpsons thread in here, so i thought i'd make one up, it will be like the "smallvile" thread where we can discuss The Simpsons, and people can post their reviews of episodes, or post and disscuss any news about the show.

so lets disscuss the greatest show of all time

i'll start, and post my thought on the season 14 season premire

Simpsons Treehouse of Horror 13

http://test.simpsonsil.com/temp/PIC00007.JPG

This was probably one of the most anticipated Simpsons premieres in a few seasons (and it was proven since simpsons, ranked #2 on sunday night behind only football, and it ranked #10 for the entire week).

The beggining was not my favorite halloween start, but it was far from the worst, it was nice to see Magie Roswell come back to voice maude, but it was to short.

"Send in the clones"

This one was the best segment of the show, and by far one of the best THOH segments of the past few years, it was around 10 mins. long, so it had alot happening in it. I loved the idea of the hammick, and all of homers lines were dead on, my favorite part was seeing the "Tracy Ullman Homer" and hearing him say "Let's all go out for Some Frosty Chocolate Milkshakes":) Some say the ending was rushed but i don't think so, it ended the way a halloween show should end with the real homer being dead, and a clone taking his place.

I give it 10/10

"The Fright to Creep and Scare Harms"

This one was just plain bad (no wonder fox didn't even advertise this segement) first of all it was too short, and it just recycled storylines from earlier THOH episodes. It really had no funny lines, but as usual with bad Simpsons' episodes it did have some good parts.

They were:
-the german cow boy
-Ralph sliging down the gun slide
-Quimby saying "i now declare our town utterly defensless"
-the "future-future" Homer coming back and having Moe shoot him

It ended to quickly, and made no sense on why the cowboys came back to life (no spell or curse to "rise" them").

I give it 6/10

"The Island of Dr. Hibbert"

This one was funny, but because of send in the clones being so long, this one was forced to be too short (in my opinion they should have cut the second one all together and made this one longer).
I loved seeing the Springfield residents as animals (Disco Shrew was one of the best) the story was interesting but not explored enough, and the ending was funny with all of the animals, but then they go and waste kang and kodos' appearence with a one liner that left me confussed as to whether it was supposed to be funny or not (for those of you who forgot, it showed the aliens looking down on the "skull" shaped island and kodos said, "it looks lie our number four") - what the hell does that mean anyways?

I give it 7/10

Over all i give THOH 13 a grade of 8/10, the second one hurt the episode over all, but the third one was decent, and "Send in the Clones" was the saviour of this episode, it was probbaly one of the top 5 THOH segments of all time.

This was better than last years THOH 12 (thank god there was no Harry Potter this year) but it was not as good as the earlier ones.

I can't wait till next weeks episode "How I Spent My Strummer vacation" (Homer goes to rock and roll camp). Season 14 should be pretty good, plus the show will become digitally colorized, and drawn in a few scenes (similar to futurama) so the look will become more crisper, and the backgrounds will be more detailed.

You pretty much echoed my sentiments on THOH XIV. I thought the second segment was really bad, and didn't fit in too well. Surely a smarty pants as well versed in every subject in school as Lisa would have known that William Bonney was Billy the Kid.

I could have done without the 'demon Maude' intro. The idea of helping Ned contact her was funny, but the demonic ghost went too far.

thebtskink
11-06-2002, 02:29 PM
First one
-driving clones out into a field and shooting each one that remembered the way "anyone else?" "BE HONEST!"

Well, another nice savior of the second segment was Lenny's "enormous genitals" comment...

third part
-Peacock Ralph's "I'm a Dog!"
-Anteater Maggie, even with the sucking.
-Lisa: "I was just playing a game: Let's eat Maggie?"

How much longer can The Simpsons go on for? I am a massive fan and not a day goes by in the UK when the Simpsons isn't showed. From the shorts in 1987 to current day it has proven that it can still get the laughs and if I had a things to do before I die list then to be a voice on the Simpsons would be in my top 4 along with play James Bond, star in Buffy and be any character in Star Wars.

i think the simpsons can go on for a long time, most of the people who watch it now(myself included) have been a fan since the begining, and we are not tired of it yet, plus it still gets good rating for fox, so they won't cancel it (they own the show, so it is fox's decision went to cancel the show, no matt gronings', he can leave the show, but he can't cancel it)

i think its under contact up to a season 15, but the cast and crew are about to negotiate a new contract with fox in a few weeks, so hopefully they extend the contract for another 10 years:)

Just to let everyone know that this months "RollingStone" issue is a special Simpsons edition (all about the Simpsons and the music acts who have been on the show)

here is www.rolingstone.com (http://www.rollingstone.com/doh/)'s simpsons section

Also, the issue will come in 3 different covers (i will probably get the Abby Road cover)

The Simpsons was good from season 2-8 probably I'd say, with the peak at season 4-6.
The new Simpsons takes it in the ass. They are really bad now, the show should end before it jumps completely over the shark, its on the right track. Its more stupid comedy now, rather than the witty comedy of before.

Jarbacca

how can you say that the show has been bad after season 8, there have been alot of funny and good episode in season 9 - 13

i suppose you also hate the first season as well?

if people hate the first season or the seasons after season 10, then they are not true fans, they are justy people who liked the show in its popularity

While the Simpsons always have some good and some bad episodes I can't say there is a single episode I haven't laughed at least once while watching. That's part of what makes the show great even it's bad episodes have some merit.

yeah, even the worst episodes have a few funny moments

like 'Simpsons Safari", and "Latest Gun in the West", 2 episode which as a die hard fan, i'd say were the worst, still make me laugh

I agree that the Simpsons still has me rolling on the floor laughing me arse off. I loved the Behind the Laughter episode where Richie Rich filled in for Bart and said in a posh accent "Don't Have A Cow Mother" pure genius and the episode where Marge bans sugar from Springfield and Prof. Frink rings Marge with a disguised voice and says "I'm an annoymous whistle blower FLA - HAVEN GLAVIN".

yeah, the simpsons is the only show on TV that has me laughing out loud on every viewing (i don't even want to begin to think how many times i've seen each episode, after all the simpsons is on at least 6 times a day, and i watch all 6)

there are other funny shows on tv, but the simpsons is the only one that can get a true laugh out of me

"How I Spent My Strummer Vacation"

Last nights episode was really good, definetly better than most of season 13. It was nice to see celebrity cameos that wern't wasted or just there for ratings.

All of the rock stars were part of the plot and actually added to the show, they weren't there just to pop in and say a few lines as many celebs on previous shows have done.

This episode actually had a plot (which is one thing a few shows of the past seasons have lacked) it started off hillarious with Homer getting drunk of stuff other than beer, then the taxi cab confession was funny, homer was right on, all of the jokes he said were funny (although isn't a drunk homer always funny?)

The move to the Rock and roll camp was well thought out, and flowed well (congrats to the writers for the smooth transition)

The rock and roll camp was the best part, (i really liked Mick jagger teaching everyone to dance like him). I liked how Homer got to the R&R camp about 10 mins into the show, the writters didn't wait untill the last 5 mins to show the most advertised part of the episode (like they did when the simpsons went to Toronto)

The ending was one of the funniest endings from the last few years, i liked how it actually wrapped up the plot and didn't end abruptly, or on a corney joke.

So far season 14 is pretty good (although its only been 2 eps), after struggling through producer changes last year (which made season 13 uneven) this season looks to be back on track.

i give "how I spent My Strummer Vacation" a 9/10

what did you guys think of last nights episode?

I was a true fan, I was one of the biggest Simpsons fan out there. But now, Its just not funny anymore. The plots are all so stupid. And how can anyone say that the first season was funny. It was really bad too, along with that raaaank animation they had back then.

the new eps, are still funny

and as for the first season, if you don't like the first season, then your not a fan, you're just someone who jumped on the simpson bandwagon, and only liked them because they were popular

the animation and voices were a little different, but its still got the same heart that the series as always had

and i like season 13 and 14 so far, i hope the show goes on for many more years

Every episode has a few big laugh moments and there's plenty of of jokes throughout the episode to keep me happy, something like a joke every 30 seconds. What I love about the Simpsons is that it has some many in jokes and adult jokes that appeal to the adult audience while still being funny to the younger crowd.

I really liked this episode, it wasn't the funniest one but it had a really good story, and was actually logical. (no crazy homer adventures)

it was nice to see a bart and lisa episode, lately they have become backdrop characters to homer's antics.

The TV shows were funny, i especially liked "touch the stove" and Japanese firends" ("You're comeback shames me"). and i liked how the whole satalite thing wasn't just used as an intro but actually help and launched the plot

i didn't really care for the new teacher, but all of the stuff with bart and lisa in grade 3 was funny (i really liked when bart had rememberd the test from the year before) and nelson's line was on of his best

Teacher - "hey, your not in this class, what are you doing here? "

Nelson - "Laughing at jerks"

the show did stumble a little bit once they wen't on the field trip, but it was still funny (especially all of the season 2 references) and the "Learn to Fart" state was one of barts best lines from the whole series, and hearing homer say it a few minutes later had me laughing out loud. The ending was pretty good and at least the joke it ended on (Millhouse's "aye Carumba") was funny.

The best parts were:

-MC saftey and the caution crew("watch out Beatles")
-Seeing Mary baily, the goofball, capital city (along with tony bennets tune) all from the second season (were the writers bored and decided to watch the season 2 DVD?)
-"A parent who waves the right to sue says what"
- Maggie holding the tiny skateboard and saxaphone (at least the writters a involving maggie - "the forgotten simpson")

overall i give this episode a 9 out of 10

Jarbacca
11-25-2002, 03:29 PM
This was the episode that many simpsons fans were worried about, after seeing the many promos, fans (including myself) thought that it would be no more than a 22 minute sex joke, but to my surprise "large Marge" actually was a decent episode, sure it wasn't my favorite, but it at least had a good story, and the "boob" jokes were not over the top. Once again this season we saw a lot of returning stuff such as

-Stampy
-The "Floor board" gags
-Cookie Kwan
-The Adam west Batman spoofs
-Apu's affair
-The plastic surgeon (remember he did moes surgery)
-El Barto

some of the best jokes were:

-"Who left the milk out"
-El Homo:)
-"my Mcguppoies have become Bazongos"
-Carousel reversal spray
-The presidents as the 3 stooges
-"Bart, remember when i cried at recess, i think i'm ready to tell you why (i guess Millhouse is gay now)
-"I came out of the elephants mouth, right? Cause i already showered once today"
-"With the economy the way it is, you're lucky you get soup"

the only part i disliked was the ending song "Marge let her jugs out", i much rather would have liked to hear a longer version of "who left the milk out"

Also, i wonder why the stuf from the promos was cut out (such as marge hiding her chest behind two pans, and Bart saying "sweet mother of Bart")

i give this episode a 7 out of 10

Moe Szyslak
11-25-2002, 03:38 PM
Other great jokes, Marge commenting that now she was getting the "wrong kind" of attention. Oggling her were people such as Moe Szyslak, Comic Book Guy, and Bill Clinton.

I knew it was Adam West's voice but it wasn't until afterwards that I realized that they got Burt Ward as well.

Mr. Teeney(sp?) being released back into the wild.

Shoot, Maggie did a dance or something that also made me laugh. It wasn't focused on, she was just in the corner.

pixiness
11-25-2002, 04:04 PM
It was when Bart was singing "Lisa learned a lesson... Lisa learned a lesson". He was kinda dancing and Maggie started dancing along with him.

Jarbacca

yeah, i didn't notice magies dance untill my second viewing last night

also when maggie was chasing snowball II and ran into the door, i laughed

Tardumb
11-25-2002, 11:45 PM
El Homo was hilarious. And the elephant part. I really like when Homer discovers Marge's boobs in the bed and all you see are their eyes, and your hear him rustling around as his eyes disappear and then he falls on the floor. I took it as he tried to climb on top of them haha. Great episode though. The Homer flexing, and then "and that's how our first son came about" or whatever. :D

Jarbacca
11-27-2002, 07:28 PM

Madness

Chief Wiggum complaining about his assistant, "Where are the implants the taxpayers have paid for??"

Surgeon; "Hmmm, yah, that's, like, flatsville."

Also when Lisa decides they're going to help build "Domiciles for the Destitute", Homer's like, "You know it's gonna be bad, but you just can't get ready for it."

Hilarious.........

Moe had just finished cleaning the gum out of his armpits.

The "King of the Hill" spoof, will all of them standing in front of their house (even though I totally saw that coming.)

And so on.......

Helter Shelter

It had some funny parts like the "king of the hill" parody and maggie being drunk, but overall the story really wasn't that interesting, it felt like it would have fit in better in last season, making fun of reality shows now is too late, if this had aired in march or april of this year i would have found it funnier

actually i just found out that this episode was from last season, at least production wise (look at the production code from the first 5 eps of this season):

DABF19 - Treehouse of Horror XIII
DABF22 - How I Spent My Strummer Vacation
DABF20 - Bart vs. Lisa vs. the Third Grade
DABF18 - Large Marge
DABF21 - Helter Shelter

they are all DABF... which was last years production code. But the next episode starts a new production code

EABF01 - The Great Louse Detective

So it look likes the epsidoes specifically produced for season 14 start in 2 weeks (next week is a rerun)

but back to last nights episode, it is one of those episodes that i will have to see a few more times before i make my final judgement, but there were some funny parts like:

-KOTH Parody
-Drunk maggie
-the sky box at the hockey game (look at them, watching hockey without sushi, if you call that hockey)
-"we need a family that hasn't been on tv for ever...Lets try the simpsons"
-Law and Order: Elevator inspectors unit
-Jimbo, Kearney and dolph thinking the bug tent was a circus (singing circus song - doo doo doodle do do do do doo...)

but there was a lot more stuff than usuall that felt different, or out of place, like:

-Marges feet being big - it wasn't really funny and looked fake
-Marge and apu's disscussion on tampons (that was the most uncomfortable moment in simpsons hisotry)
-Homer bleeding from shaving, it looked fake and was kind of gross
-the sudden ending with the hose - i didn't really understand what that was all about
-Homer not knowing who lenny was (i know its funny, but he could tell lenny and carl apart just fine until a few seasons ago when the writters put in that joke - it would have been better if it was a joke since the beginning, but to just throw it in around season 11 was not a good idea)

overall i'd probably give "helter shelter" a 6.5/10

The Great Louse Detective

i liked sundays episode, it was IMO the best episode since "She of Little faith"

it was great to see side show bob back (and at the end he wasn't back in prison, so we may see him again). And as usuall this season the writters are using ideas and characters from previous season (here it was frank grimes, or "grimmey" as homer called him)

i liked how the episode had a plot to it, it wasn't just "the simpsons go here" or " the simpsosns get a ..." it had a real story that made you think (although as soon as i saw and heared the mechanic i knew it was either frank grimes or a releatine, and that he was the one trying to kill homer)

the song at the end was kind of lame (it must be in kelsey grammer's contract that he gets to sing a song, everytime he is on, because every SS bob ep features a broadway song)

overall i give this episode a 8.5/10

i' will have to watch it again to pick up some of the jokes i forgot, but the best one i remember was the stilts chase, and arrest

Even as it enters its 14th season, THE SIMPSONS continues to bring television audiences social and cultural satire in the finest of America’s comedic tradition. 298. Special Edna (a.k.a. Love and Marking)
gs: Little Richard (Voice of Himself)

Bart nominates Mrs. Krabappel for Teacher of the Year, netting the family a trip to the awards show in Orlando, where Little Richard is to present the prize.

299. The Dad Who Knew Too Little
gs: Elliott Gould (Voice of Himself)

Homer tries to learn more about Lisa by hiring a personal detective to follow her around.

300. Barting Over
gs: Blink 182 (Voice of Themselves) Tony Hawk (Voice of Himself)

Blink-182 and pro skateboarder Tony Hawk voice themselves in the show's 300th episode as Bart leaves the family when he discovers he was in commercials when he was younger, but Homer spent all the money.

301. A Star is Born Again
gs: James L. Brooks (Voice of Himself) Marisa Tomei (Voice of a once-famous starlet)

Bart finds out that Homer has squandered the small fortune that Bart made by appearing in a commercial for a product called Baby-Stink-Breath when he was just two-years-old. An enraged Bart goes to court to cut ties to his family, citing irreconcilable differences. Flanders dates a once-famous starlet.

302. Strong Arms of the Ma

Concerned that she's been neglecting her health, Marge starts lifting weights, which leads to steroid abuse and a harsher Marge to the family.

303. Pray Anything

When Flanders wins a half-time money shot during a WNBA game, Homer decides his neighbor's secret to success is praying. Homer starts praying to get his way with everything... and it works. He even prays himself into an injury lawsuit against the Church and is awarded with the deed to the property. Homer promptly moves the family in, while Helen and the Reverend have been relocated to the Flanders and reduced to preaching at the Bowl-a-rama. It can only take a miracle to make Homer see the error of his ways.

304. I'm Spelling as Fast as I Can
gs: George Plimpton (Voice of Himself)

While Homer falls in love with the new limited-time Krusty Ribwich, Lisa enjoys the sudden popularity of being a spelling champ -- and soon becomes the state rep for the Spell-lympics. When the Ribwich is discontinued locally, Homer joins up with the Ribheads and follows the mystery meat sandwich tour around the country. At the finals, George Plimpton tells Lisa to take a dive (and get a free college scholarship) so that a cuter kid will win and ensure the future of competitive spelling.

305. Scuse Me While I Miss the Sky
gs: Eric Idle (Voice of Declan Desmond) Joe Mantegna (Voice of Fat Tony)

Snobbish english documentary filmmaker Declan Desmond (Eric Idle) convinces Lisa she must choose a career path immediately, prompting her entry into astronomy. But when her successful petition to reduce outdoor light pollution gives criminals increased cover of darkness, an angered citizenry sees to it that Springfield's outdoor lighting becomes brighter than ever, leading to perpetual daylight. Meanwhile, after being humiliated at the hands of Nelson and company, Bart tries to salvage his cool by stealing the golden hood ornament from Fat Tony's '30s Stutz Bearcat-style gangster car.

306. Old Yeller Belly

Santa's Little Helper is shunned as a coward after opting to devour a roast turkey rather than pull Homer from a fire. Getting his nose stuck in a can of Duff Beer afterward, however, proves to be somewhat of a spirit-booster when it propells him to the status of Spuds McDuff: the Duff Brewery's new mascott. But matters worsen when the the dog's new-found fame (and net worth) cause his original race track owner to come forth and reclaim his "property" -- leaving it up to the Simpsons to get their dog back by proving Santa's Little Helper a coward unfit to hawk Duff beer.

307. The Bart of War

After his latest bout of mischief results in another encounter with the Springfield police department, Marge and Homer elect to place Bart into a program of supervised afternoon activities -- in the form of a quasi- Native American tribe dubbed "The Pre-Teen Braves." But tribal war ensues when his clan is forced into a game of community service one-upsmanship with an opposing group of do-gooders: "The Calvary Kids."

308. Mr. Spitz Goes to Washington

Krusty gets elected to Congress in part to help get the flight path for Springfield Airport diverted from directly over Homer's house, but falls in line with the conservatives once he's there.

309. Three Gays of the Condo
gs: Weird Al" Yankovic (Voice of Unknown)

After yet another Homer and Marge fight, Homer ends up sharing a condo with two homosexuals - who don't exactly think Homer is straight.

310. C.E. D'oh!

After being rejected by a sleepy Marge on Valentine's Night, Homer enrolls in Stark Richdale's extension class Successmanship 101, which gives him the "Megatronics" tools needed to take over the SNPP -- by replacing the plant's true owner Canary M. Burns with himself... and immediately firing Mr. Burns.

311. Brake My Wife, Please
gs: Jane Kaczmarek (Voice of Judge Constance Harm)

When Judge Harm revokes Homer's license, so he discovers the healthy joys of walking, while Marge becomes stressed by the added running around to the point where she accidentally runs him over. Now Marge has to nurse him on top of everything else and they realize they need to visit a marriage counsellor. Homer realizes he must do unselfish deeds for his wife to save their marriage.

314. My Mother the Carjacker

316. The President Wore Pearls
NOTE: Although this episode's description is currently unknown, this episode could be the George W. Bush episode talked about by Matt Groening last spring.

I love the first season, and that's when it was a major fad. As for when in started to tank, I'd say the ninth season was the year the show became more kiddie friendly since Mike Scully made Homer the star.

Futurama, the superior Groening program at the moment, along with King of the Hill, are my two favorite shows.

more kiddy friendly, thats the opposite of what most people say, most people say that the show has become more filled with sex jokes, which are not the sign of a kiddy show

as for myself, yeah the show is not as good as it was in the high years of 6-8, but its still a great show, and no mike scully did not ruin the show, many of the best episodes were scully episodes

just got done watching Special edna, and i really liked it, definetly the best so far of this season

i liked how it actually had a story, and was it just me or did it really seem long

i would have liked to see the wedding and not just the proposal, but maybe we will see the wedding in a future ep

i don't have time to write a real long review, so i'll just say that this was a really great episode, with humour and a nice story

9.5/10

"Sex Jokes" are the very much the sign of a kiddie show. Yes, they may not seem the most suitable, but who gets the most yucks out of sex jokes (Show me your boobs)? Kids. They think it is funny as hell (hee-hee, he said a dirty word!). Take old Lisa episodes: they dealt with questions like knowledge, feminism, politics, sadness etc etc. Take current Lisa episodes: ghosts and leprosy, tap dance and robot shoes, nerd sweat and slapstick etc etc. Just like the plots out of a bad saturday morning, generic cartoon.

I almost frightened at the maturity of the upcoming seasons: what's next? A Homer / Otto based episode called "Dude, where's my bus?", guest starring (insert worthless guest star).

as for myself, yeah the show is not as good as it was in the high years of 6-8, but its still a great show, and no mike scully did not ruin the show, many of the best episodes were scully episodes

IMO, he did take the show down, and I mean WAY down. Yes, he was a great writer (Marge not be Proud is my favorite season 7 episode), but when he took over the show started to meander.
It was no longer the Simpsons, but "The Homer and Friends Wacky Half-Hour", with a gee-whiz guest star in nearly every episode.

Al Jean, through various interviews, agreed to the sentiments above, but hasn't really done much to improve the show, beyond toning down Homer, but the subtle charm has yet to return.

Special Edna Review: Well, it was a GOOD episode, but not great. What really brought this one down was there wasn't any real seriousness to the story to counter the humor. Grade School confidential was the clear winner as the 'romance' felt more real and I actually CARED for Edna and Skinner, but this time around their problems weren't that heartfelt...or funny.

However, Bart being a trouble maker was quite humorous. The "Mothballs in the beef Stew" line was from the song "Deep Deep Trouble" from the Sing the Blues CD back in 1991. Also, I liked Abe's story about how he had to lie to get into millitary service and how Homer carried him off.

Overall grade: C+ (6.5/10)

Seriousness to the story? Romance felt more real? Lighten the hell up! It's a ****ing cartoon. It doesn't need to be serious. It needs to make me laugh, and forget my problems for 30 minutes a week. And it did that, in spades.

ANY comedy needs to have a somewhat serious side to make the funny parts funnier just like what Lisa is to Homer. Perhaps if the Simpsons had Homer just stand there scratching his ass, you'd call it the best satire ever, right? (Or better yet, they'll have Homer tell you it's satire, so you 'get it'.)

well season 14 is proven to be a great one

the last few episodes have been solid, and tonights proved to be my favorite of the season

i really liked the digital animation (for those who don't know, starting with tonight's ep the show's animation will be 100% digital, its still drawn by hand but its painted with computers rather than handpainted by animators) the colours looked solid and much cleaner than the handpainted episodes

i liked the story, it was funny but also had some character development with homer proving he can be a good father. it flowed well and i liked how lisa's laser pointer she got at the begginning turned up at the end

what i liked

-bart's spegetthi throw(and maggies dropping her bowl afterwords)
-the tapes ned and homer had made
-the hair die gag
-the fake names
-nelson wanting his picture back

what i disliked

-homer getting the cannon ball guy in the gut would have been a perfect set up for a "homerpalooza" joke but it went right by the writers
-ralph was underused, he needs to say something funny not just state the facts
-moe and the cow what was that about?

overall "the dad who knew too little" gets a 9.2/10

the simpsons is the best show in the history of television, and there doesn't have to be new characters to make the show remain good. as long as the actors who supply the voices to not die, then the show will live on for a long time

It's become a show of habit for many. I still believe that if the show of now was the premier material (meaning slapstick writing and sight gags) the same fate would've befallen OFF as Family Guy of today.

Your argument makes absolutely no sense. I love the simpsons the way it is. I watch it to forget about my problems, my concerns, my worries. I watch it to laugh. As long as it continues to make me laugh, I will continue to watch it.
As far as you attacking my character, and presuming to know what I find funny, that is just childish. Just because somebody doesn't agree with your opinion, that doesn't give you the right to critisize their personality, or intelligence.

Some of the more recent episodes have seemed to lack something, and occassionally I think that's cos they don't retain the characters' true identity. I've seen them dumb down Marge or Lisa to make a storyline work better, which shouldn't need to be done. But all in all it's a quality show that should be worshipped.

I think the main problem of today is that most people (including the writers) think the Simpsons is
only about simple fun and jokes, but it isn´t or at least wasn´t. Fun and humour were always
important elements of the show but they were neither the only elements nor the most important. You
can´t even blame the people who prefer the Simpsons just funny and nothing else, many of them
grew up with the modern show and consider anything older than - say - 4 or 5 years as sappy and
old-fashioned and unacceptable but those people are IMO missing the true Simpsons of the early
years.

Why? Why is evolving the only way to survive these days? To reach a larger fan base? Metallica has changed their sound a lot but they've tripled their fan base, does this make them a better band? No, it makes them a versatile one. But as Metallica went from hard to soft the Simpsons have gone from clever to dimwitted slapstick. Dont get me wrong, I love dimwitted slapstick, but only when it's funny.

An excellent show manufactures its own cool, a pathetic show only mimmics pop culture. That's why I think the show only makes fun of celeberties and itself now.

IMO, S11 sucked then (worst season yet) and it still sucks now, which is why I don't watch the reruns from that era, along with Seasons 10 and 12. And don't tell me to watch it again and again--I've seen them all, twice, and I don't watch the reruns in some desperate attempt to find something funny.

Yes, but when the show is PRODUCED under these standards of being a distraction, then it is no longer a show true to itself, but a program that is only kept alive by it's name and nothing more. (And if there are a couple of fans who try to complain we mock them so often in the episodes that nobody will take them serious any longer and we call it fun and irony. )

If you've ever seen "The Godfather" there is a scene in there where Sonny beats up his brother in law I think near a fire hydrant like that. It was just like Marge.

yeah that was from the first godfather, and it wasn't just the fire hydrant that was similar, it was the entire fight, it was exactly like from the godfather

also did anyone notice that this episode was almost exactly like the family guy episode "lethal weapons"?

Tonight's episode was pretty bad. About the only funny part was when Arnie and Kent were verbally duking it out. Unfortunetly, the rest of the episode felt really tacky.

Pray Anything, Episode #301 rates a: D-

Next week's "300th", and I use the term loosely, looks god-awful.

i liked sundays episode, it was IMO the best episode since "She of Little faith"

it was great to see side show bob back (and at the end he wasn't back in prison, so we may see him again).

I missed the part where they said how Grimmey had a son. I mean Grimmey didn't seem that old I just want to know since other than that part it was a entertaining show. Now they can use Grimmey's son trying to kill Homer. I always thought they wasted a perfect chance for a guest voice for the voice of Frank Grimes. Nothing against Hank, but he's done plenty of voices and it would've made the character better. They should also bring back Cecil!

Being a "fan" which is short for "fanatic" means you talk about the show, both good and bad. Unfortunetly, the last couple of episodes have been 'bad'. Here's how I'd rate this season:

DABF19 Treehouse of Horror XIII (A+, F, D+)
DABF22 How I Spent My Strummer Vacation (F)
DABF18 Large Marge (didn't see it)
DABF20 Bart vs. Lisa vs. 3rd Grade (C+)
DABF21 Helter Shelter (D-)
EABF01 The Great Louse Detective (B-)
EABF02 Special Edna (B+)
EABF03 The Dad Who Knew Too Little (A-)
EABF04 The Strong Arms of the Ma (B-) (The REAL 300th ep)
EABF06 Pray Anything (D-)

Also, if everyone here just came to praise the show, there'd really be no need to discuss anything since we'd all know what everyone was thinking.

You can stop watching and simply pretend to be happy with all your classics on tape but the public opinion about the show is created by what the modern episodes show - so you can´t escape them. How can you explain to someone that you love the show for its reality and intelligence if the person has just seen an episode about Homer who was raped by a panda? Bad stuff. Stop watching the show won´t stop it .

Not bad by any stretch of the word, the whole episode was actually funny, but when the third act rolled around with the "Crouching Tiger" joke, it was just too silly, even for a Simpsons episode.

#303: "I'm Spelling as Fast as I can"
Hot damn, this was great. This is the reason I sit through the newer seasons nowadays waiting for a good episode, and here it is. Very funny, and some of the most clever dialog that seems like it's out of Season 7, but with better animation behind it. If they made more episodes like this, I could get over my post-Scully stress disorder.

this was such a funny episode, non stop laughs, and a great story, i thought the "baby stink breath" part would be stupid, but it actually was funny and not overdone. The ending was a little bit to "family guy" for the simpsons, but what can you do?

Some of the best lines

(Disguised voice) I'm an annoymous whistle blower who worked project "Glavin Flavin". Classic

"Don't have a cow, mother" - Richie Rich, filling in for Bart. 'Behind The Laughter' episode. Had me in stitches for hours.

"This one is not for Greenhornes" - Red
"Who's a greenhorne. What's a greenhorne" - Homer

"Unless" - Homer, rubbing his chin and pondering his next move.

"Why did you think a giant blob would stop them?" - No. 1
"Shut up that's why" - Female scientist

It was a nice, feel-good episode with nothing 'out there' or horribly unfunny. Even the oddest joke--the Benny Hill parody--was well done (for those old enough to remember that show!).
The best moment, IMO, was "Hollyweird" with Rod and Todd: "We're movie producers!".

Pretty good, but nothing to really write a long review about.

A star is born again was an O.K. episode, but as simpspin pointed out, there wasn't anything overly funny about this episode. I did however laugh when Ned was singing his version of America's Horse with no name.

but did anyone else find that Ned was way out of character, i mean i know he is a widow so i can see him having sex with his girlfriend, but to have it out side is just way to un-ned for me

Well first do you know who he is? The actress made mention that she was in love with him, or somthing. Then at the end on 'Publicity Tonight' they mentioned she married him and then got divorced really quick. Flanders made a comment about it. Just out of nowhere they use an obscure actor, that most of America doesn't even know and the only way you could get them to know who he is, is by telling them he played Russell the head of NBC in Seinfeld.

Kris Hodgson
03-03-2003, 03:34 PM
After Ned and his movie star have sex, she comments "You sure know how to make a girl forget about Bob Balaban!" He replies "That's what Maude always used to say.."

Later on Publicity Tonight, it is announced that she has married Balaban, only to get divorced 3 hours later. Ned comments "I bet we would have lasted TWICE that long."

Very funny reference.

I liked the episode, nothing spectacular, but nothing bad either. I liked it better than the 300th episode. And it was nice to see Ned get some play.

Mr Spritz... was probably the best episode so far this season, it had everything

-a good story
-a funny raplh line for the first time in a long time
-no jerk-ass homer
-a decent ending that actually made sence and resolved the plot
-funny jokes
-Cookie kwan was actually used properly (as a real estate agent) rather than in previous eps where she was just there for no reason
-FOX jokes that were actually funny (the joe millionaire one being the best)

the best joke was homer's CPR-CCR mix-up, i laughed so hard at that one

definetly i give this one a 9.5/10

i was over at TVtome.com (http://tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/EpisodeGuideServlet/showid-146/) and i was checking out up coming Simpsons episdoes, and the rest of the season looks like it will be really good

here are the the last 7 eps of this season

Brake My Wife, Please
When Judge Harm revokes Homer's license, so he discovers the healthy joys of walking, while Marge becomes stressed by the added running around to the point where she accidentally runs him over. Now Marge has to nurse him on top of everything else and they realize they need to visit a marriage counsellor. Homer realizes he must do unselfish deeds for his wife to save their marriage.

Dude, Where's My Ranch?
During Christmas, a lawyer threatens the Simpsons for singing copyrighted carols, so Homer decides to write one of his own. He ends up penning a Flanders bashing song instead, which, with a little help from David Bowie, becomes such a huge hit that the family decides to escape all the publicity - by heading for the Lazy I Ranch (run by the Rich Texan). Lisa quickly falls in love with a young cowhand, but then mistakes the cowhand's sister as a rival, sending her into the middle of a raging river unleashed by Homer's war with the local beaver population (over Native American tribal lands)

Moe Baby Blues
When the entire town shows up at the Springfield Botanical Gardens to watch the once-in-a-lifetime blooming of the Sumatran Century Flower, there is room for everyone but Moe. The event causes a panic and during the ensuing traffic jam Maggie is thrown from the Simpsons' car into the arms of a suicidal Moe - who is dubbed a hero by the city. Maggie accepts him unconditionally as her new babysitter and surrogate father, much to Homer's dismay and rage, while Moe's new reason to live starts to turn into an obsession that proves useful when Maggie gets in the middle of a mafia gang war between Fat Tony and Don Castellaneta (you read that right!).

My Mother the Carjacker
Homer recieves a letter from a mysterious hippie and it tells him to visit the Hospital for Hobos. Homer finds out his mother is really sick and that for the last years since he's seen her she's been in gangs for stealing cars. She asks Homer to continue her career after she passes. She eventually perishes and Homer decides to steal one car for the gang. Little does he know, it's Marge's new one.

The Fat and the Furriest
After another failed Mother's Day gift, Homer takes the kids to Sprawl-Mart and ends up buying a Kitchen Carnival for Marge. Homer uses the Carnival to create an edible candy man, but Marge finally forces him to take it to the Springfield Dump - where he's promptly attacked by a bear. When he's labelled a coward by the media, Homer builds a bear-fighting suit, and after some "Jackass" style testing antics sets out to confront the bear.

tonights episode was pretty good, i like all of the references to earlier episodes and i also like how eps thius seaon put story first instead of jokes

although the gay kiss made me a little uncomfortable, it wasn't too bad, and homer flying out the window imediatly after had mae laughing out loud

best jokes

homer - "who made you judge judy and executioner?"
flanders' sillouette
the puzzle piece under maggie's eye lid;)

grade - B+

"dude where's my ranch"

If a Simpsons episode is like a cup of coffee, the coffee and water is the plot, the sugar the jokes, and the cream is the emotion and empathy.

To put it bluntly, "Dude Where's my Ranch?" is a cup of sugar with two teaspoons of coffee added--Very silly and very forgetabble with the exception of these jokes:

Maggie Spears
Marge's line: "I didn't make that sound until I was 18"
Homer's line at the end
Homer's Song

The rest was too silly, IMO. GRADE: C.

yeah, i was a little let down from "dude where's my ranch", it could have been alot better (why did they have to have the part with the song, why not just send the simpsosns to the ranch on vacation?)

it had a few good jokes, but over all the story was forgettable, and most jokes seemed reused or ran on too long (Homer and the beavers for example)

however maggie spears was funny and maggie line dancing also gave me a chuckle

cookie was an O.K character (they shouldn't have killed him though, he could have been of some use in future eps)

Moe was once again wasted (they have really ruined his character this year, i'm begining to hate him)

David Bryne (the guest star who nobody knows who he is, seriously who the hell is this guy) was used ok, but i hated how he just poped out of nowhere

Homer's song just sucked, it wasn't catchy and i couldn't understand how it caught on (and wouldn't the royalties make homer very rich? why wasn't that explored?)

overall it was a disapointing episode

4/10

How can you hate poor Moe. The guy had his head in an oven wearing a wife beater, boxer shorts, and black socks with a sign on his back saying "No Funeral" . Do you remember that one? It was with Gary Coleman. Moe is awesome ever since that.

that's exactly why i hate moe. the writers have turned him into a suicidal freak, and why have they been making hints at him being gay, its bad enough that there doing it with lenny and carl, but please moe has shown that he's straight in numerous past episodes

Sounds like you have some issues with being gay? I didn't take anything to be considered gay with Lenny or Carl. or Moe for that matter. Moe has always been pathetic. The only other time we knew Moe he was at the bar serving drinks. His character has been developed. He is one of the better characters.

It's not the 'gay' issue, but because characters are friends/buddies there must be some sort of sex involved. And when there's always the thought of 'sex' involved, is ceases beign the Simpsons and becomes "Friends".

*Gasps from frightened children*

Christopher Walken: "Please children, scootch closer. Don't make me tell you again. About the scootching."

What a great way to end the 14th season of the simpsons, 2 great episodes to conclude the best season in the last 3 years

"Bart of War"

This was my favourite of the Two, i thought the beatles first act was hillarious (who knew flanders' was a beatles nut?) i liked seeing Bart be a little hellraiser again (its nice to see a return to his original character)

The second act really moved the story along nicely, it had so manny jokes that i forget half of them, but the ones that stand out were Nelson's Papa gag (although didn't we see his dad in "Bart Star" [i think Phil Hartman did hisd voice]). I liked the idea of the rival tribe, and the indian jokes were very funny

The third act tied the episode together very nicley, i liked how they pretended to be the calvary kids and sang the national anthem, and the part where everybody started fighting was the best part of the episode, i particularly liked moe getting stuck with Tatum, and lenny hitting Carl with chairs. The O' Canada ending was a bit popintless, but seeing as i'm canadian, i can't put downj any canadian reference, so i'll just shut up

Best jokes:

-the laxatives in the cookies
-Homer in the "Booze" line
-Bart halloucinating from the beatles Pop (millouse as lennon was very funny)
-Ned's response to why he likes the beatles("well...they were bigger than Jesus" :))
-Ralph getting carried away by the wolf
-Ralph being used as a Brick and being thrown through the window "I"m a Brick!!"
-The south Park Parady (although it would have been funnier if the stan's voice sounded a little bit more like the real stan
-Homer Micheal jackson joke
-Otto's "show me your boobs line"
-Kirk Stabbing all of the animals, and then delivering the line "looks like i woke up on the wrong side of the futton this morning"

over all i give it a B+

"Moe Baby Blues"

This was the better of the two eps, it had more of a story and it sort of saved moe, seeing has he has been wrongly used this season.

The opening act was pretty funny, i liked the whole seeing the plant part and indrocing the moe aspect of the show very early was good ( i hate when the main action of an ep doesn't appear untill half way through) i liked how the plant thing backfired and let out a cloud of stink, the traffic jam was also very funny and when they crashed i cou'd.'t stop laughing from Homer's "your baby line" and when he fell of the car i thout the animation was some of the best i'd ever seen"

The seond and third acts seemed almost as one, i liked how more became more an more obsessed with maggie, the only part i found boring (although it was needed to tie the end together) was the Godfather part, it was too long, it should have been shortend to just the first GF, when moe went into GF part 2 the joke became stale.

Maggie's birthday party was very funny and moe with the baby monitor and camera was also quite hillarious

The final act seemed alot like last years season finale (with fat tony and maggie), but i liked this one alot better

The best jokes were
-Homer being eaten by the venus fly trap and then eating his way out
-Homer going back to stomp on the last flower
-Krap-E-latch :)
-Moe setting up a bar of couch cusions in the simpson's living
room
-The bumper cars part (moe with the crow bar)
-there was so many more but i don't have time to write them

over all i give it an A

where are the simpsons fans??

well since no one wants to comment on season 14 finales, i'm gonna post some details from season 15 eps

(i got this from snpp.com) (http://www.snpp.com/upcoming.shtml)

EABF18 - My Mother the Carjacker
(no description available yet, but RUMOR has it that it will feature the return of Homer's mother. However, RUMOR!)

EABF19 - The Fat and the Furriest
After another failed Mother's day gift, Homer takes the kids to Sprawl-Mart and ends up buying a Kitchen Carnival for Marge. Homer uses the Carnival to create an edible candy man, but Marge finally forces him to take it to the Springfield Dump - where he's promptly attacked by a bear. When he's labelled a coward by the media, Homer builds a bear-fighting suit, and after some "Jackass" style testing antics sets out to confront the bear, parodying the little-known Canadian documentary "Project Grizzly".

EABF20 - The President Wore Pearls
A highly musical episode parodying "Evita". After Martin stages a school charity casino that turns ugly, Lisa replaces him as school president by narrowly defeating Kearney. The teachers decide she has too much power and distract her from making real changes by filling her days with meaningless duties. When Lisa uncovers the Skinner-Chalmers plot to budget cut art, gym and shop classes, she calls for a student strike that is so successful she is banished to a school for the gifted (and troublesome).

EABF21 - Treehouse of Horror XIV
"Reaper Madness" - Death Takes a Holiday/Meet Joe Black/Final Destination/Meaning of Life/Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey/... spoof. Death becomes H(om)er and our hero must learn to reap what he sews (and pull a fast one on the almighty). "Frinkenstein" - Frankenstein spoof. Soon to be Nobel-prize winning Professor Frink reanimates Professor Frink Senior for some gruesome body parts-swapping. "Stop the World, I Want to Goof Off" - Clockstoppers spoof, starring Bart and Milhouse.
Guest starring Jerry Lewis as Frink Sr. and Jennifer Garner as herself. (Will air likely as the unofficial season premiere)

EABF22 - The Regina Monologues
Mr. Burns loses a thousand-dollar bill that is quickly turned into the main display at the Museum of Modern Bart. After Burns shows up to reclaim his money, Bart realizes he still earned enough from charging admission to take the Simpsons to England. When they arrive, Marge begs Homer to make this an incident-free trip, which he actually succeeds at until he accidentally runs into the Queen. Now the only thing that will earn Homer a stay of execution is whether he can uncover the plot to poison her majesty. (Will likely air as the season premiere, following the annual Treehouse of Horror episode.)
Guest starring Tony Blair, Ian McKellen and J.K. Rowling as themselves.

FABF03 - Marge vs. Singles, Seniors, Childless Couples and Teens, and Gays
(Description unknown, but the title can sure make one wonder.)

FABF?? - Title Unknown
Krusty's father, Rabbi Krustofsky, returns to see his son in this religious-themed episode. The show's producers are hoping to have Jackie Mason reprise his role.

FABF?? - Title Unknown
Principal Skinner and Mrs. Krabappel get married.

Yes I watched both shows. Ment to post earlier. Anyway I thought the final one with Moe was quite good and sort of proves that they can still produce Simpsons quality shows. I HAVE AN AWESOM IDEA FOR A NEW EPISODE!!!!

it would kind of be like the Frank Grimes ep but better

Okay here goes:

Homer is outside doing nothing. He hears a new lawnmower and looks over the fence to tell Flanders to turn it off. When he does it isnt Flanders with the lawnmower its some guy Homer never met so he says who are you the guy then says Im your next door neighbor. Homer: but flanders lives next door.

Neighbor: yeah but I live on the other side.

Homer: But thats where Flanders lives

Neighbor: But he lives on the other side.

Homer: Did Flanders move?

then homer goes inside and tells marge they have a new neighbor. Then they go over with some jello to welcome them to the neighborhood. When they go over there the guy says im not your new neighbor ive lived here my entire life and you people never once came over to say hello. Then HOmer says so hows the new house. The guy gets all pissed off and HOmer throws him a welcome to the neighborhood BBQ party even though the guy has lived there longer than he has. The guy then freaks out and moves to Shelbyville

Jarbacca
06-16-2003, 09:19 PM
Pamela Reed Voices Ruth Powers (the mother) and Sara Gilbert Voices Laura Powers(the daughter)

The episodes where we see them are:

New Kid on the Block
The Simpsons' neighbors move out because Homer is a terrible neighbor. Homer vows to go out to a seafood restaurant with Marge. Meanwhile a new neighbor has moved in, a single mother with a daughter, whom Bart falls for immediately. Marge welcomes them and Bart soon finds that his love, Laura, is a complete tomboy. Homer and Marge are set to go to the seafood restaurant and they get Laura to be their baby-sitter. Lisa teases Bart about his trying to impress her. At the restaurant, Homer eats A LOT of food in an all-you-can-eat buffet. The restaurant kicks him out on the street and he decides to sue them. Bart starts asking questions about the birds and the bees and just when he gets a plan to win Laura, she tells him that she has a boyfriend. It is Jimbo, and Bart feels betrayed, depressed, and angry. Homer's court case begins and the lawyers reveal what a pig Homer is. The Sea Captain (who owns the restaurant) makes a deal with Homer. Homer now eats seafood and people gawk at him like a freak. Bart comes up with a plan to show Laura that Jimbo is a coward. He gets Moe to come after him in a murderous rampage. When Jimbo cries, Laura leaves him and begins hanging out with Bart again.

Marge on the Lam
Marge pledges money to PBS and gets tickets to the ballet and Homer goes with her against his wishes. When he gets his arm caught in two vending machines, he has to cancel. Marge asks her next-door neighbor, Ruth, to go in his place and has a terrific time with her. Meanwhile Homer is still at work hours later. Homer eventually returns home and has an argument with Marge about her new friend. She and Ruth have another girls' night out a few days later. Homer gets a baby-sitter for the children, Lionel Hutz and then he decides to go out and have some fun on his own. Marge and Ruth are having a wild night, while Homer's night has turned to crap. Chief Wiggum gives Homer a ride home, but they end up in a chase after Ruth and Marge, because Ruth is driving a stolen car. Marge tries to talk Ruth out of it, but after they lose the fuzz, Marge elects to stay with Ruth in her run from the law for the rest of the night. The high speed chase has begun again and Bart and Lisa see Marge on TV when the chase gains TV coverage. In the style of "Thelma & Louise" Ruth and Marge's high speed chase heads towards a chasm. Chief Wiggum and Homer fly their police car into a bunch of solid waste. In the end a "Dragnet" style voiceover tells what happens to each character.

Strong Arms of the Ma
Marge gets mugged outside the Kwik-E-Mart and she starts feeling vulnerable and becomes scared to leave the house. Dr. Hibbert diagnoses her with agoraphobia. The family tries to help her get back out of the house, but their efforts drive into living in the basement. In the basement she finds their unused weight set and she begins working out. Two weeks later she is stronger than she ever was and realizes that she can leave the house. In fact while celebrating her release from her fears, she confronts and beats the crap out of her mugger. While out working out, Marge runs into Ruth Powers, the neighbor she once went on the lam with. Ruth tells her about how steroids can help her to get bigger. Marge starts taking the supplements and gets into a women's bodybuilding competition. She takes 2nd place, which only entices her to do better next time. At Moe's she tears the place apart when she suffers from steroid rage. Homer makes her realize that she has become everything that she can't stand and she destroys the weight set.

Can I just say, life is so much better with The Simpsons. I've been a fan of the show for a long time and it always makes me laugh, I must have only missed a few episodes and seen episodes over and over again.

What I love most about the show is the way that it tells life as it is, it deals with issues but then it always looks at everything with a sense of humour. That's what life should be about, filter the crap and just look back and laugh on situations.
