The Los Angeles Times reports that The Weinstein Company is moving forward with Halloween 3D, a sequel to the Rob Zombie movies to be released in the summer of 2010.

Co-Chairman Bob Weinstein said Rob Zombie won't return for Halloween 3-D. He said the studio is in negotiations with a new director, whom he declined to name, who has experience in horror and has a "different take" on the franchise.

Halloween II opened in third place this weekend with an estimated $17.4 million from 3,000 theaters. First place went to The Final Destination, which was filmed in 3D.

The good news is no Rob. The bad news is Rob REALLY buttf***ed the series into a corner that will be very hard to come out of. i hope whoever takes over takes no inspiration from the other two. best case scenerio the new director/writer "incredible hulks" this movie and gives us old michael back. 3D could be fun though....

I wonder if a good Halloween movie is too much to ask for. I guess we'll find out.

I thought H20 was the last good one. I liked it quite a bit.

H20 was really good imo i still really enjoy it even if it is a scream ripoff it works. rumors are that Steve Minor may be directing the next one. i have mixed feelings on this. he made a good Halloween film but he also butchered Day of The Dead. either way, i'm glad its not Zombie doing it

I thought RZH2 was great, and I hate that part three may be in 3D, but I'm hoping they'll reconsider and actually spend time working on a good movie. As great as it sounds for a Halloween movie to be released next year, for the sake of making a good movie, they should avoid releasing it next year and shoot for a 2011 release.

Looks like this movie has been put on hold indefinitely due to the Weinsteins not having the funds, contrary to their "we were moving too fast" statements. All in all, I was beginning to get hyped for this, especially since it was said that Farmer turned in a damn good script, as I expected.

If rob zombie directed H20 youd all be saying it sucks ass.
Seriously I agree RZH2 was bad. But saying H20 is better than Rob zombies remake of the first one??? H20 was the start of insanely retarded hip hop star and model casting in halloween movies. LL cool j, tyra banks , Busta rymes. It was as if to say the franchise is a joke.
When I think of h20 I just think cheesy right off the bat. Sure there were things wrong with RZ halloween movies but compared to where the original series was heading come on..

And LL cool j got shot like 100 times in that movie and said the BULLET (yes as in one) only grazed him.

I really dont even like RZ movies or music, but his halloween 1 remake I thought was good. A lot better than H20 but i'm not saying you're wrong I just have a different opinion so I wanted to share it

I just hope that the story is good. To date, I think the two best Halloween films are the immortal classic & RZH2. I want more Halloween films that switch it up and do something new to keep the characters fresh.

After the mess of H2, the only way to go is another reboot, Zombie really messed things up big time.
