UK movie magazine Empire recently took in votes from their readers and website visitors for the best games of all time and here are the results:

How high was Super Metroid? That's one of my favorites. Was Link to the Past on there?

Very shocked at the absence of Super Mario Bros 3. And Bioshock and Half Life 2 should surpass Halo.

Bogus list. COD4 higher than Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye? Halo and Gears of War higher than Half-Life 2 and Bioshock? MGS at #20? MGS4 at #32?

Portal should have been MUCH higher.


Love the first Guitar Hero, but I don't think it belongs anywhere on that list.

The only good thing is that Final Fantasy VII is #2


Needless to say, it's a failure. But then again, it's Empire and I shouldn't be surprised.

I don't like that list very much either. Some great games on there, but still, some memorable games were missing.

I've always been a big fan of poin-click adventures, and Day of te Tentacle was way too low. At least it made the list. But none of the Leisure Suit Larry games, or Escape from Monkey Island or Discworld (which is probably the best game ever IMO).

its a pain that they make you click on each one, but then they do that to whatever list they do, I'm surprised that Metal Gear Solid 2 made it and not Metal Gear Solid 3. Metal Gear Solid 3 IMO is the best out of the 4. But in general I didnt like the list too much.

My favourite game of all time didn't make the list but that doesn't suprise me. Tha game being Star Wars Battlefront II. I think Mario 3 is much better then Super Mario World. I also think Gears of War 2 is much better then Gears of War. And I hated seeing Halo in a list of good games. There is no way Halo surpassess Bioshock or Half Life 2. I was very happy to see GTA IV so hhigh up, even if I rank it higher.

Can't say I've played most of these....... but of the ones I have

#97 - Double Dragon - Definately an ol dschool classic
#87 - Lemmings - Great game, often overlooked
#80 - Super Smash Bros Brawl - While I love the game, not sure it belongs here, the original maybe
#72 - Diablo II - One of my favorites, to me it took MMORPG to a new level and should be much higher
#62 - Tekken 2 - Always liked fighting games but could never get into Tekken or Virtua Fighter, why they appear on this list instead of Mortal Kombat or even Marvel vs Capcom is beyond me
#61 - Gauntlet - You could call this the grandaddy of modern RPG games... even though it wasn't an RPG good choice
#59 - Age of Empires II: Age of Kings - Meh, I can see why it's here but could do without it
#53 - Tie Fighter - Best flight sim ever, period.
#52 - Starcraft - I would argue this to be one of the greatest of all time and should be much higher, even now when things have moved forward so much (and Starcraft 2 on the way) you can still pop in Starcraft and have fun playing through it, definately the best RTS to date
#47 - Metroid Prime - To be honest didn't like it... first person tends to give me a headache (except on flight sims) but I'm sure for what it is it's great
#36 - Sonic the Hedgehog - Not a huge fan of Sonic either but he does have his place in the gaming pantheon
#28 - Tetris - Definately a good choice, where woudl all us puzzle gamers be without Tetris
#24 - Super Mario Galaxy - A good game but really has no place on this list I think
#9 - Super Mario 64 - A good choice for innovation alone but coudl be a little lower
#7 - Doom - The game that made me realise I get headaches from first person shooters. Still a classic... too bad about the movie though
#6 - Street Fighter 2 - Definately another classic that is well deserving of the list
