I want to hear and see your favorite opening credits/theme songs from television shows. Which ones are the most innovative, which ones have a really catchy theme, or which one makes the best use out of its music? Post YouTubes, etc.
1) Big Love

My first choice is from Big Love. On the Season 1 DVD there's a making of the opening credits which showed the whole process of creating it, how they found the music to choose and how and why they made it the way they did. I think it's a fantastic opening and one of my favorites. "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys works perfectly with the whole setting and feel of it. The creators mentioned how HBO shows have these huge openings like The Sopranos and how they were going to try and do it like that, and it works wonderfully.
2) Mystery Science Theater 3000

On the MST3K 20th Anniversary DVD there's an awesome look through all of the different theme songs the show had which I think was around 5 or 6 since it was changed every couple of seasons. They always kept the main theme though. Joel wanted to have the entire premise of the show be told in the opening credits. And he did. Every time the credits changed, the lyrics did a little bit as well. Read the lyrics and see how it is able to set up the entire premise in about 1 min. 30 secs. screen time.
Seasons 1-5
In the not-too-distant future --
Next Sunday A.D. --
There was a guy named Joel,
Not too different from you or me.
He worked at Gizmonic Institute,
Just another face in a red jumpsuit.
He did a good job cleaning up the place,
But his bosses didn't like him
So they shot him into space.
We'll send him cheesy movies,
The worst we can find (la-la-la).
He'll have to sit and watch them all,
And we'll monitor his mind (la-la-la).
Now keep in mind Joel can't control
Where the movies begin or end (la-la-la)
Because he used those special parts
To make his robot friends.
Robot Roll Call: (All right, let's go!)
Cambot! (Pan left!)
Gypsy! (Hi, girl!)
Tom Servo! (What a cool guy!)
Croooow! (He's a wisecracker.)
If you're wondering how he eats and breathes
and other science facts (la la la),
Then repeat to yourself, "It's just a show,
I should really just relax
For Mystery Science Theater 3000!"
There are so many other openings that I love and a lot that I know you all will post, so I'll let you guys do it.
