Agreed.
Also reminds me of the Seinfeld episode "The Opposite", where Costanza does everything he normally wouldn't do.

You just hit the nail right on the head.
However, I like Jim Carrey's comedy even if it's similar to 'Liar Liar' which I loved, so I can't see myself deny this film.

Just adding that this is based on the novel of the same name, which was based on a true story.
Oh, and there was already a thread on it here (which you, TNP, also created =P):

This is one of the movies where if you want to find it, you have to search for the actor(s) in it, because the search function on this board doesn't allow you to find anything that has less than 4 letters - IE, both "Yes" and "Man." The same will go for this thread, so keep that in mind before you make another for the third time. ;)

Looks like "Yes Man" will be the top grossing comedy this year.

This looks pretty terrible. It's the same concept as Liar, Liar but without being funny. Movie looks predictable and like Carrey's recent comedies, which means bad.

Last Carrey movie I liked was 'A Series of Unfortunate Events'. Even in that he kind of brought the movie down. Stop paying him $20 mil a pic.

I said the same thing for Adam Sandler after he did Punch-Drunk Love and Reign Over Me. What does he do instead? You Don't Mess With the Zohan. Carrey and Sandler have proven they can do better than the garbage they're typically in, and yet sink right back into familiar territory. Sad.

agreed man i dont know why they do it, there agents must be stupid or they really dont care what they do cause there getting 15-20 million a movie. gotta be the reason cause i have no others as to why You Don't Mess With the Zohan was made haha
i guess i am in the miniority in that i think this movie looks pretty solid. i am a huge man of jim carrey's comedies, although pretty much all his movies have sucked recently. The last of his movies i actually liked were eternal sunshine and bruce almighty. all the rest since then have not been great at all. Fun with dick and jane is proabably the worst one in recent memory right up there with 23. 23 started off good, but it lost it half way through. and i didn't care for lemony snicket, though it was alright.
This movie def looks like i will like it. i like the new trailer more than the first one. The only part in the first trailer that made me chuckle was the redbull scene. The second one had a little more in it.
I think the philip morris movie is going to be pretty good, though i am not keen on the whole homosexual part of it. I have nothing against it, it is just not something i find appealing to watch in a movie.
all in all, i think Yes man will be worth about a 7.5 rating. but it could be better or worse when i see it.
But yeah, i loved Liar Liar, ace ventura, the truman show, dumb and dumber, bruce almighty, and eternal sunshine. Even the mask was pretty decent

I might see it just because Zooey is in it.
In my defense, it's as just as good a reason to see it as it is for its apparent comedy.
is that why you saw "the happening?" ;)

I think they basically took Liar Liar and Bruce Almighty and smushed them together. I'm pretty sure smushed is a word.
there is a little bit of 40 yearold virgin in there. and by that, i mean there is that both movies had a gay vibe in their posters

given the fact the film is based on a book based on a real story. No they didn't take liar, liar and twisted it. or else I'm pretty sure this would've been made right after liar, liar.
wtf does bruce almighty have to do with it?!
the idea came from a book, but by looking at this movie, i highly doubt this is anywhere close to the book. they formed the script to Carrey's "Safe zone" where it is the basic style of liar liar and bruce almighty.

I still don't see the bruce almighty comparision, he was a loser who inheritied gods powers to further his own life and later decided to do the right thing and be responsible with his powers and fix his relationship with his girlfriend. don't see the comparision...
the only similairty between liar and yes man, is the basic principle: doing the opposite of what he already does.
and a loser becoming god isn't doing the opposite. becuase in every religion, their god is considered a loser. you are right. religions say their gods are losers.

I actually read the book and enjoyed it, so I'm quite interested in this. I'll see it for sure.
Carrey's very hit-or-miss for me so I'm not sure what to think about this... I'll just say it has potential.

Going to an advance screening of this on Monday. And I agree that when it comes to comedies, Jim Carrey can be hit or miss, but it's good to see him get back to the genre of comedy after venturing off into drama. Hopefully, this will be enjoyable.

Just came back from the screening, and I laughed quite a bit. Don't have time for a full review right now, but I will have it up tomorrow.

That's more than the basic principle, that's the entire plotline. I don't know how you could think this is so different from Liar, Liar. It's going to have the same kind of humor (though maybe not quite as clever) and Carrey is going to play pretty much the same character.
well, to be fair, his character in liar liar resisted the change and did it against his will. and in this one, he embraces it and does it on his own free will.
But they are very similar. I liked liar liar, so i have no problem with him doing something like it. this movie looks a lot better than "dick and jane" which i really didn't like.

It looks alright, I have learned though that previews and things can be very misleading. I might wait til it hits dvd to watch it. I am not too big on Jim, I only like a select few of his movies and this one doesn't seem to interest me too much.
