View Full Version : How did you find ComingSoon.net?

The Hero Boy

Did you click on an ad? Did a friend tell you? Did you find it via search engine?

Were there forums at the time? Were the forums empty?

Extra question: This question is kinda off-topic but if the webmasters ever check in and see this, I wanted to ask, how exactly did you get started and did you ever do the "link in signature" thing that people do or did you just wait for people to visit the site?

Well funny as it is, I have been coming to the actual comingsoon.net website for news and what not for years. It wasn't til sometime last year that I even noticed the forums link and decided to start posting.

Hey, I always did my best to try and welcome the lot of you when you were here, there were just a lot of you *****ing and moaning about how horrible this place was compared to the Hype. Lucikly, you weren't one of those people. ;)

I found this place back in 1998 when I was looking for trailers. I kept coming back because there was this "Who said that?" quote game on the front page, so I sent a few in and they were used. Eventually, the forums showed up in 1999, so I went into it.

I used to go to SHH way way way back when it was still Spider-Man Hype. After that turned into SHH, I sort of lost interest and wandered into the neighboring forum and was impressed. I posted a while under the name SolidSnake for a while then lost interest for a month or so and forgot my password and was to lazy to recover it. I then just made this screenname and the rest is history.

I try to keep my halo on when I visit my neighbors, it slips every now and then. ;)
There needs to be a *****ing and moaning thread. :meanie:
I would be in there everyday.

Back in 2001 I believe, looking for release dates, both old and new.

Sadly, they don't keep the old anymore.

I began browsing the forums shortly after, and eventually joined.
My signature, title, and technically even my avatar, haven't changed since
(although back then, you had to really earn them).

My signature was probably more so true at the time than it is now, but... whatever.

I can't remember exactly how i found the site think it was just a google search when i was back in school looking for sites with new movie info. I thought it was a good site and it kept me updated and i just kept it as my movie site but i never once thought about joining the forum until a year ago when a friend clicked on the forum link and read a few posts and i saw the CS film club and liked the idea so i joined....

After leaving JoBlos forums (actually being banned three times that is) I found Cinema Confidential. I met a lot of interesting people there and helped to co-write my first LOTR fanfic there. LOTR: The Last Alliance. After the owner/whore Thomas Chau let the forum go to s**t, we all joined FDF, or FunkDiggityFresh. I had my falling out and by the time I reconnected with most of them, FDF was no more and everyone disappeared. Some went to MovieJustice, others went back to JoBlo, and a couple of them came here to CS! So I came here and found that I had made an account years ago. Yay me, lmao.

Joblo actually lets people come back? I thought is was one time and that's it. I was banned last June after one year there as powersauce.

I miss that place though and ironically it was for a post on the news of the front page and not the forums. I've replaced that with rottentomatoes since October where I'm JT Lancer.

edit: Just tried joblo and it still says that I'm restricted and for no reason.

The first time he banned me was back in 2001. He banned me personally, not one of his mods. But he was kind and told me I could come back in six months if I wanted. So I did. The second time I was banned, it was by that little no good s**t (or, at least at the time he was little, being the youngest mod and all) Quentin. He banned me because he didn't like that I called him a punk, so that was the second time. That time, I was banned for over a year. Luckily for me, within that time I moved, so my IP address changed. And with a changed IP address, one can easily rejoin unnoticed.

Unfortunately for me, by the time I went back, a lot of the faces I once knew and liked chatting with were long gone. Tuukka was still there and I really liked him. So was ak and Cyclonus and Lindsey. Oh, and later on I found out that Cyclonus had a major crush on Lindsey, who actually knew Joshua in real life, who was actually a fellow member along side me on Cinema Confidential now, who is also here with us on CS! as Brock Landers, lmao. Anyways, I was banned again just last year after calling out one of his writers on their pathetic articles. James Thoo I believe his name is. I called him a stupid b***h on the comments section below an article and was banned shortly thereafter.

I was trying to look for some info on The Matrix sequels and I found Comingsoon.net. Loved the sight and and lurked for a while. It wasn't until 5 months after that that I even noticed the forums. I looked for days online not even knowing if it was out yet, then I stumbled onto the site for the first time the exact day it was released. I was on vacation with my family in 2002. We decided to go to a movie theater near our hotel and see The Road To Perdition. At the concessions stand there was a sheet of paper that had a list of movies "coming soon". I stumbled upon Indiana Jones IV. Unaware that there was even any talk of another one, I just had to remember the site so I could check out more information on it when I returned to the hotel and used the guest computer. I have always been a fan of movies, but I always got information about upcoming ones through the previews before the movies and on t.v. Anyways, I go back to the hotel and read about Indy and a whole bunch of movies coming out in the near future (Spider-Man 2, T3, X2, The Two Towers, Batman, Superman, Superman VS Batman, Star Wars III, The Matrix Reloaded). This site really got me interested in movies and following up on them way before they even came out. It also got me to widen my variety in films(which I am very thankful for) and have a serious interest in learning the process of how a film is made (such as filming, editing, casting, music, and so forth). I began to watch films from all different genres and all different time periods along with researching about the directors and their other films. Like I said, I am very thankful for that.

I have now been going on here for 6 years and did not join the forums until 2004, 2 years after I discovered the site. However, I was a daily viewer of the forums during its height of popularity. The forum was packed with people discussing all the big franchise films. It was cool seeing what other people's thoughts were about them.

I remember the first time seeing the website and checking out the Indy IV page and saying to my brother how awesome it is another one was being made. We were talking about how we couldn't wait until July 4th 2003 to see it (I believe that was once the rumored of many release dates it had). Little did I know at the time that it would not be until 6 years later that it finally comes out :P. Still, I will be there. In closing, before I saw this site I would consider my self a casual movie goer. Now, I am a bigger fan of movies than I ever thought I would be.

I used to go to the site Countingdown.com, but I started to look for more good movie sites and found this back in 2002 or 2003. I liked it a lot more than other movie sites and decided to stay here. Then I joined the forums not long after. It's weird that I've been here almost 5 years.

Fascinating, I thought.

I lurked for a bit without posting and the conversation level of those chamber pots (you nuts) was worth my while so I stuck around.

Eventually forgot my username's password and email address because I found myself lurking so ruddy much so I re-registered under this one...Ah yes, not enough Darths here at CS. Originality was never my strong suit.

lol Keep waiting, J.

Since the latest from a fly on the wall over Fox suggests the Strause brothers are getting approved for AvP 3 (to be centered on an alien planet), we still have two or more years before Alien 5.

Man, I really....really.....really...loved that fanboy-started rumor back in 2004 that said Ridley Scott and James Cameron were collaborating on an Alien 5. Alas, the fanboys who start the rumors sometimes have the right idea but the directors never agree with it.
