Resident Evil: Extinction - Review Thread
I am happy to say that Resident Evil: Extinction was a great entry into the franchise. Being a fan of the games since their original inception, I was very skeptical seeing the series turned into a movie, as the trend for video game movies is to be completely terrible. I didn't hate the first two movies, but I definitely left the theater disappointed. The first film tried to invent an original story line revolving around similar events which didn't work that well because it just felt like the connections to the game were tacked on. Apocalypse delivered on the fan service by adding characters Jill Valentine and Carlos Olivera, and tying in the movie to the third game in the series.
And now with Extinction, Resident Evil has finally found a good balance. With characters from the games making appearances, nice comedic moments, and a gritty style of action I was not disappointed in the slightest bit. I also feel like with the third film in the series, it could finally open up into a more mainstream audience. The characters from the game give nice feelings of nostalgia for those that have been playing for a while, but their stories from the games are not necessary for any one coming to see this movie without any prior knowledge of the game series.
My only two complaints with this film is that it doesn't over view the last two films (which doesn't bother me, but I can see how it would for any one who is just coming to see the movie without seeing the others. Although, it might spark their interest to check out one and two), and the film ends on a cliffhanger. With Milla Jovovich stating that the film is written as a trilogy, it makes me wonder whether or not there will be another entry. Overall I couldn't recommend this movie more for some one who is looking for an enjoyable time at the theatre.

This one was by far the best of the 3. Lots of action, good plot and story.

Just one thing pissed me off, no explaination whatsoever of why jill wasnt there. She was my favorite from part 2 and i was disappointed she was gone. Even though Alice kicked ass. Ali larter is hot.
Saw it tonight and it was entertaining. Decent action and acting. Not much of an improvement over the two previous films but about the same as the others. To me the these RE films while connected tell different adventures in a way. You don't have to had seen the other films to watch the latest installment. I guess it's safe to assume that these films have a solid cult fanbase. It also helps that the budgets aren't to high so they manage to turn enough of a profit to get a sequel. I suspect that this one will do about the same as the others and it'll be a 4th in about 2 years or so and that's not a bad thing.
I've seen people come down hard on these films and that Paul W Anderson guy or whatever his name is that put them together. I've enjoyed all three of them and while i could care less if there is a 4th or heck even a 3rd before it was announced i'd still go and see the next one. RE just isn't a franchise that I don't think people care about. I think that people feel that the last one was solid so they'll see this one to get out of the house and go to the movies, but i don't think there are many people who are anticipating the sequels. It also helps that Sony is smart with the release dates. I just keep thinking that although FF2 wasn't perfect it was far better then the 1st one and was solid enough that it could've made more money had FOX released it either before the summer or after the summer. Just my opinion and also that i'd love to see a Silver Surfer flick even with my concerns about FOX.

Actually, part two gave a perfect quick backlog as to what happened previously that anyone wanting to see it really didn't need to see the first one to understand this one. As for the third one... I have to see it tomorrow before I can say how good it was compared to the last two. Of all, the first one is my overall favorite of the series thus far.

It looks like Ali Larter will be getting her Resident Evil 4 film after all (Code Veronica, I guess).

Meh - it was OK. Cheesy as hell, but OK. Did anyone else notice that Mila Jovovich's face looked almost plastic at times? Something just looked weird about it and I'm not sure if that was supposed to be on purpose or not.
How the hell did they pack 5 million zombies into one cargo box? And why didn't any zombies run through the hole when they blasted through the fence to steal the chopper? And for that matter - how retarded were they to take all the kids through the hole in the fence to the chopper? Why not keep them somewhere safe and pick them up after you get the helicopter?
If you completely turn your brain off - then this movie isn't quite so bad. But what do you expect from a video game movie? At least Uwe Boll wasn't directing.

I like the film a lot actually. I thought part 2 was just horrible. Part one is pretty entertaining in my book. This third one was the best of the franchise IMO. My only gripe was the dog scene. Pretty pointless. Other than that its a 7/10

my only gripe is the fact that Jill and the little girl from the second (can't remember her name atm) aren't even mentioned. Like they never existed. I just hate when they do stuff like that in any movie.
What disturbed me most about the movie was the sheer amount of children that were obviously under 10, maybe even 8 in my theatre. There was one little girl walking around with her teddy bear. Not only that, many were giggling when people got ripped apart. That scared me.

I really liked it. It was a lot of fun.
The part where Dr. Issacs ripped the guys eyes out was wicked.

Claire was hot and alice was awesome. I never did see apocalypse, but when did alice start having force powers and such. I mean, i just thought she was good at kicking ass.
and yeah the ending didnt make much sense to me, i really wanted the story to be focus on survival in post apocalypse las vegas, but no such luck. the movie was more game like though especially the fight at the end. i think there will be another movie, why not.

I noticed that too. There was a massive lack of information on that part. On many parts to that matter. With the second film as bad as it was, they still continued directly off of the first one, even giving a detailed recount of what happened previously. But with this one, all it gave was a short recap followed by a end of the world speech that is given the same way in every film. I liked this film, but I can't say if it was better or worst then the second film. They're both equal in my book.

the fact some characters are not mentioned throws me off. and the ending leaving so many questions kind of gets me annoyed. but the movie was very good in my opinion. the action, the story, the hype it was very good.

A little shaky-cam erratic at first, but it gets better in more open environments.
As for the missing characters from the 2nd film, I just chalk that up to deadly encounters with zombies. Claire said she had lost over half her convoy since they started. It can be assumed a young girl wouldn't make it that long and that Jill probably died saving someone. I never felt that they were important to the overall story, so I didn't find myself wanting to know what happened.

Well the little girl was part of the cure, her whole story was that her body could cope with it if she kept getting treatments, she was kinda important. As for Jill, thats more important to game fans as she is one of the main characters from the first and third games and her story isn't finished.

Super Alice bugs me.
The fact that it's years from te last one bugs me.
The fact that the world died bugs me.
The zombies all died in RE2 and yet the world is over run now bugs me, how did they cross the oceans?
The zomibes couldn't climb in RE1 but can now coz they are "uber zombies," that bugs me.
The zombies all look ugly, that bugs me.
I saw the death of the bad guy coming a mile off, that kinda buged me.
The non-Red Queen buged me.
What happened to Jill? That buged me.
I liked the naked army of Alice's...
It was an ok movie in theory but the zombies really weren't right and there are just too many blanks from the years that are missing. Worst RE movie yet, maybe on par with RE2.
Anyone know where I can get an Unbrella pin that they all had?

I found the movie to be average at best. Wasn't all too thrilled to be honest. At least Wesker was in the film. 5/10.

I would say its 7...some part of it was pointless like the scene when someone wanted to rape alice then when she woke up then being attack by dogs...etc...Where did she get her power...?Never notice...But I enjoyed it though..The first one is much better...

I love R.E. series, but overall I was a little disappointed with the third one. I gave it a 6/10.
OK. One of my biggest peeves was the make-up. The entire planet is a desert wasteland, yet Alice's make-up is flawless. In one scene, you see some of the ladies applying make-up. Let's say, while traveling around, they come across a store and find make-up. How on earth are they able to apply it and maintain it so perfectly in that environment? I understand you want the main female characters to look nice, but for me, that perfection took something away for me.
I thought the dog scene with Alice at the beginning was too choppy. The frames were cut way too close together. It could have been a cool scene, but they blew it.
The scene set in Vegas where the Zombies come out of the shipping crate. How many super Zombies does that thing hold?!? They kept coming out and coming out! They took half the movie setting up these secondary characters and in one scene, almost all of them get taken out.
I think the storyline was disjointed, some of the scenes were poorly shot and there were too many holes in the continuity thread. But I'll still see R.E. 4 when it comes out.

I loved 1. 2 was blah, it just kept going. 3 was better then 2 and midly entertaining, but totally disregarded 2's ending.
