When spies get fired, they don't hear from human resources -- they get a "burn notice" and suddenly become untouchable. That's what happens to agent Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) while he's out on assignment, and when he returns stateside to Miami, no one will tell him exactly why he was blacklisted. To keep himself afloat, Michael puts his unique skills to work helping people who the police are unable to, joined by his ex-girlfriend Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar), a former IRA operative, and Sam (Bruce Campbell), a washed-out military intelligence contact. All the while, Michael tries to find out who or what was behind his termination. Get local listings, view photos and visit the official site for "Burn Notice", premiering tonight at 10/9C on USA.

Anyone else gonna check this out? It premieres tonight, I just read about it on IMDB's front page.. Can't believe I hadn't heard about it. Sounds good I think, and plus it has Bruce Campbell in it.

Yeah, I think the fact that Bruce Campbell is in it will bring a cult audience to the show. Hopefully it's good, the plot sounds great.

Here's an interview with Bruce about the show.

I felt the same way at first, like it was trying too hard to be witty and charming, but it got a lot better as it went on and by the end I was really into it. I will keep tuning in for now.

Bruce Campbell is the only guy on the planet that guys can absolutely love and nobody thinks they're gay. In fact I think you are gay if you don't like him.

I liked it and set up my DVR to record it from here on out.

I thought it was pretty funny.

It would never last on netwrok TV as it's going to need some growing time, but I think USA is the perfect place for it as MONK would fall into the same catagory.

I personally think they have some really solid shows, mostly because they are so different and creative. The half dozen shows or so they have on there are all at least good I would say which is saying a lot more than most networks.

Well I finally got to watch the two hour season finale this weekend (I DVR'd it) and it was great. This show just gets better and better. I cannot think of one bad thing about it except that I have to wait til next summer to find out what is going on with Michael Weston now.

I saw the finale (with Lucy Lawless in it :D). This is my first time watching the show. I'm impressed. The actor who plays Michael reminds me of James Franco, both looks and screen presence. Though James is cuter and a better actor, I might just continue watching the show. Lucy was great in her role, and good looking too. And thats coming from someone who loathes the blonde...

My only problem was the constant putting the shades on. Its too corny and old-school ish. But other then that, the show is exceptional.

Handsome Rob

Actually USA has TWO of the best shows on TV. MONK and Burn Notice. I think the conservative nature of Network TV is what kept it from being a normal primetime show.

With cable, they can take more chances with a relatively unknown cast. While network TV always wants a "name star" to push.

Once you rent the series and watch it, you'll know what I mean.

It's an INCREDIBLE show!

Could anyone tell me a little more about the show without giving too much away?

Hmmm. Ok well let's see a former top US intelligence agent Michael Westen played by the cool Jeffrey Donovan is placed on the infamous "burn notice" list used by the intelligence community and dumped in Miami Beach, Florida. The burn notice basically means he is unreliable and no longer accepted in the community. Since he cannot really leave the city (constantly under government monitoring) and needs to get to the bottom of the reason for the burn notice and who is responsible, he uses his time and Special Ops training to help those in need in turn for money he needs to finance his mission. His supporting cast of Gabrielle Anwar as his former IRA girlfriend Fiona, and the always funny Bruce Campbell as his friend and retired agent Sam Axe really make this show run.

The thing I like about this show is the main character's narration through the show. It gives it a noir feeling but with a quick witted edge. IMO a great show and worthy of a viewing. 8.5/10

Nice...haven't seen this one before, but am hoping to learn what I can before it returns in July...awesome synopsis, H.Rob!

That's interesting about the film-noir aspect...seems like it should be different from most of the other narrated series.

Umm...and Anwar is probably one of the finest actresses around. I've only seen her in a couple of projects, but will NEVER forget that mug...wow...

They're usually pretty good about summing up plots at the end of the season. I've not been loving the Gilroy thing either - but I have found the "cases" a bit more interesting. It's nice to see things not always work out as planned.

But I have to admit my favorite pastime is verifying whether they are where they say they are.
Most of the time they are, but they "switch it up" a bit. For instance, the last episode with the fashion house murder - they said the boutique was at the Viceroy Hotel. They were at The Viceroy... but they were at the Spa area of the viceroy (yeah - all those weird library looking walls were at the SPA).

LOL can't help but compare can ya?

pixiness
02-22-2010, 11:31 AM
Nope - but we've actually been pretty happy that they are, for the most part, accurate. They don't say they're on South Beach when they're really in Coconut Grove (or, like CSI Miami does - say they're anywhere in Miami, when, in fact, they're shooting in LA)

southern
02-22-2010, 12:29 PM
I have Season 1 on dvd and I listened to the commentary on one of the episodes (may have been the season finale). The director/creater/someone was talking about a scene where a car gets blown up and as it's being blown up (by an RPG), they pull back the camera so you see the bridges with just tons of cars driving over. The director said that they hadn't alerted anyone about this, but the cars just kept driving like a car wasn't just blown up a little way away from them.
That an everyday occurance in Miami?

pixiness
02-23-2010, 01:43 AM
Hahaha - here's the thing. If I remember the episode they're talking about correctly they're on a piece of property called Watson Island. It's about halfway between downtown Miami and Miami Beach (miami beach is an island connected to the mainland by a causeway - watson island is a small speck of nothing between the two).

There are no houses, no businesses, no nothing there - except (oddly) the Miami Children's Museum and a little theme park called Jungle Island (mostly parrots and tropical birds, but also a beach). But anyway - the place is probably 2 acres big at best, and a large part of it can't be seen from the road because of the way the bridge of the causeway curves and the way traffic flows (most of the island is behind you when you come off the bridge heading east - heading west you can't see anything on the opposite side because of a large hedge in the median). Incidentally, whenever they seem under a highway or under a bridge, this is usually where they are - and if you see cruise ships in the background that's DEFINITELY where they are.

Anyway - besides the way the island and the causeway are situated, it's also a location where they hold a lot of events like stunt shows, music festivals, fireworks displays, etc. So it's not unusual to see something weird (like a 50 foot inflatable dude - or in this case, an exploding car)

Evil will have a new face next season on Burn Notice. His name’s Robert Wisdom, he’s best known from his work on The Wire (as Bunny), Prison Break (as Lechero), and Supernatural (as bad angel Uriel), and sources confirm that he’s joining the cast of the USA smash as the latest thorn in Michael’s side.

According to a Burn insider, Wisdom will play — Alias flashback alert! — Vaughn, a veteran spy handler who works for the group that burned Michael. Possessing an impressive combination of high-end book smarts and real-world experience, he’s smart, world-weary, and ruthless.

The addition of Wisdom, who is on board for a minimum of six episodes, marks the second major piece of casting for Burn Notice’s upcoming fourth season
