Summer movie battle 2007
vote
pick the movie u believe will come out on top
(not necessarily the movie u look forward to the most)
it's said that 2007 will be the year hollywood pulls itself out of the slump
bare in mind there are alot of power/fun/good movies spread out year round
(300 among them)
(the return of David Fincher)
but this a summer battle
now vote
(or die)

my thoughts on the situation
Transformers is probubly the one to watch
it can either go really really well or not too well
This is the notorious Michael Bay doing not only what he does best but doing what he loves
action, fun, cars, tanks, sunsets, american flags...
all jokes aside, there is no one better to handle this ready to explode franchise...
Speilberg is a smart guy and he himself is one of the great visual directors, he, having the rights to this money maker, hired Bay cause he knew...
this isn't gosfordpark...
this isn't a pretenious underwhelming superman...or relatable(bland colour pallete) spiderman or whatnot
this is a summer movie experience incarnate...not since the first jurassic park have we had one
that last shot in the new trailer with the feet walking past the girl says it all...
Transformers the one to watch

I'd say a good guess is either Spider-Man 3 or Harry Potter 5 will take the summer domestic box office total. Pirates 3 will come running along behind them. Harry Potter will probably end up taking the summer world wide box office though.

Spidey 3
Sure fire money...
not only are they rounding a solid trilogy(with the same director(see T3)), but there giving us more of everything
from love triangles, to 4 villans..
I put my money this this cause it's just solid...the everyone knew it when the saw the end of the teaser and he was in black...
(unlike say the supeman one)
plus spidey is one of the record makers of this decade.

Its clear to me that Spiderman 3 does not have a clear cut dry run here. This is much stiffer competition then Spiderman 1 had with Attack Of The Clones. Shrek The Third Then Pirates 3. Not to mention Harry Potter 5. This can be a very good summer for movies and the box office slump of the last 2 years.
Look What happened to Shrek 2 and Pirates 2. They were big surprise monster hits. I would not crown Spiderman 3 just yet. Sure it looks cool but i think It will fall like this order.
Pirates 3.
Shrek The Third.
Spiderman 3.
Harry Potter 5.
The Bourne Ultimatum.
Transformers maybe.
Fantastic Four 2.

Pixar and Dreamworks animation houses will be doing battle again not only for biggest animated feature but for the oscar in the category...
shrek will be what it always it, a series of gags and a story that becomes apparent only at the end of the film(i'm not a fan)
but this is the franchise that has set the precedence for animated success
(this time JT is in it)
Pixar has nabbed Brad Bird again to direct(incredibles/irongiant)
He techincally is the best
and this film looks very clean.
i'm have a feeling shrek will win between the two do to it's successfull name
but then again, the name pixar is success spelt backwards
we'll see
Simpsons
can go either be a big hit or a big flop
i mean hey everyone knows the simpsons right?
but who still watches it?
they dare to be 2d eh.....
Turtles
Why oh why couldn't delToro have made this his masterpiece...
not only is it a cartoon from that hoodwinked animation house(meh)
but it's about aliens?
technically it'll be a big hit becuause of this though
Kids like what?
cartoons, aliens, etc
every second year it seems the biggest movie is an animated one...(yea, when shrek comes out haha)

Pirates did kill it this year(really really badly)
new records and everything...
thing is
they were pretty much the last thing out after a piss poor summer with nothing but clear sailing post opening
this time they come out early...with nothing but record reclaiming trilogy enders coming out post opening....
Pirates maybe be huge then again, they may suffer Reloaded/Revolutions like symptoms...

Man...i just realized there are alot of good guilty pleasures next summer. Sure, no master pieces, but just good ol' fun action movies coming out. I love it :)
I think pirates 3 will take it. I meen...come on! If Pirates 2 (aka the not very good sequel) can manage 1.000.000.000 dollar, shouldnt 3 be able to at least get like....6-700.000.000? Yes, I believe so.
Shrek 3? Nah, I'm guessing about half of what number 2 made. Number 2 was so bad and I will not go see the 3rd one. But, maybe everyone else felt otherwise.
Bourne 3. Well, the first 2 didnt make that much money. They made enough, but not in the shrek/pirates range.
Die Hard 4? Nah, rated R.
Rush Hour 3? Doubt it. Probably in the 200 mill domestic range and 400 mill worldwide range.
Spiderman 3. Well, a domestic hit for sure, but worldwide? Nah, not as much as pirates.
Harry potter? 600 mill worldwide range. Not enough to kill the biggest one, whichever that will be.
