X3 one of the best? Sure, if you have less emotion than the movie did. So no, in other words. Clerks 2 one of the worst? On all accounts you are wrong again dude. I would have to agree with some of your other choices, however. I do think that just from the early reviews, "Rocky Balboa" may make my list for one of the best, but we will see.

I don't see how Slither is a bad film. I don't even see how it was even trying to be a good film. It was basically an entertaining B-movie. Maybe you missed the point. As good as Casino Royale was....it was pure action and thats it. You can't really rate it number one because it has "better action" than the others. Especially when there were plenty better. Plus, The Departed, I would say, is well-acted and engaging. Whereas, Casino Royale, falters because of the lack of anything else but action.

I'm a huge James Bond fan that's why Casino Royale is my top favorite. If it wasn't for Casino Royale, The Departed would be my #1 favorite movie of 2006. As for Slither, I thought it was digusting.
The Departed was the best movie I saw all year so far, and I've seen a handful of the releases this year, especially all the "critically acclaimed" ones. If you ask me, The Departed was the only thing that really impressed me all year. There's been some great movies, but none of them have really been all that original, or entertaining. That's just my opinion though, I'm sure alot of people think differently.

Thats a bit bias. Because I'm also a huge Bond fan but theres no way that Casino Royale was a better film. But Slither....it was supposed to be. You shouldn't see movies without even knowing the slightest bit about them.

Year in Review by FantasticFour40
Let's face it, this hasn't been the best year for the moviegoing public. Even, if the box office was up this year, there were a lot more break-out stories about celebrity break-ups, and celebrities getting into trouble such as a'la Mel Gibson or Michael Richards then there were break-out movies. It seems like every week the critics were too hard on a anticipated movie. Take, for example "The Da Vinci Code". That film, even if it was a box office hit left critics with a bad taste in their mouths. Another anticipated movie this year that got mixed reviews was the Pirates of the Carribean sequel. Even if audiences embraced the film, critics didn't think that it was as good as the first film in the series. Also, the critics seemed to be washed out by the third "X-Men" installment. Some called it "too short" or "too unoriginal". Yes, as we got into the Fall Movie Season, the cream of the crop of movies seemed to be getting better and there were a few break-out movies but nothing on the order of a "Lord of the Rings", "Harry Potter", "King Kong" or "Chronicles of Narnia". The films that attracted Oscar Buzz in the month of September were considered to be disappointments by the end of their releases. "All the King's Men" which was a re-make of the 1949 best picture winner and had a all-star cast including Kate Winslet, Sean Penn, and Anthony Hopkins was just one of the many movies of that month that was considered a let down. Another film that had some Oscar Buzz going for it but then dropped like a ball after it's release was Brian De Palma's "The Black Dahlia". In the month of October, moviegoers were rewarded with Martin Scorese's "The Departed" which I think is this year's best film. Even, if it is a re-make of a Hong Kong film called "Infernal Affairs" or a movie that's a little violent in places, "The Departed" was an entertaining and informative look at the Boston Mob. Another film I wish that did better at the box office was Clint Eastwood's World War II epic "The Flags of Our Fathers". I thought it was a sweeping epic that was a tribute to the many lives lost on the island of Iwo Jima. This was also a year where Hollywood took risks at making two very heartpounding and powerful films about the events of 9/11. "United 93" which was released in late April of this year was a ambitious and historical project written and directed by Paul Greengrass. "World Trade Center" which starred Nicholas Cage also received good reviews from critics. Many people in the film and television industry died this year. Recently, Robert Altman, Jack Palance, Steve Irwin, Peter Boyle and many others passed away. I also want to wish film critic Roger Ebert, a very happy and healthy New Year. Many Chicagoans have missed him reviewing movies over the past 6 months with his partner Richard Roeper and had to tune in to guest critics every Saturday Night.
Now onto to what I think were the best and worst movies of 2006:
Like, I said earlier, without a doubt "The Departed" tops my list as the year's best film. This was a movie with so many professional actors in the film that it was hard to say which one had the best performance. Leonardo Di Caprio who played Billy Costigan, the undercover cop who tracks down Frank Costello(Jack Nicholson) and then gets involved with Costello's gang gave one of the best performances I've seen this past year. I also enjoyed the tangy dialogue that was written by William Monahan who's previous work includes "Kingdom of Heaven". Hopefully, "The Departed" ends up as being one of the five films that's nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.
The second best film this year was "Casino Royale", the 21st James Bond film. My Dad and I are huge James Bond fanatics. Daniel Craig definitely lights up and is very physical as James Bond in "Casino Royale". In fact, I think this is the best Bond film since Pierce Bronsan's "Goldeneye" or Sean Connery's "Goldfinger". The film has a lot of memorable action sequences including a scene in which Bond is chasing after one of Le Chiffre's henchman in a building that's being under construction. The action sequence that I'm describing happens at the beginning of the film. I also want to add that Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" is one of the coolest theme songs for a Bond movie ever.
Onto to the third best movie of 2006. For me, that had to be Clint Eastwood's sweeping World War II epic "The Flags of Our Fathers". This is a movie that shows that superheroes like "Spiderman" and "Superman" only exist in comic books and the real heroes are the soldiers who either died on the island of Iwo Jima or soldiers who fought, won or survived the battle and our here to tell the tale. "The Flags of Our Fathers" had some emotional photographs during the end credits of the movie. I was really captivated by this film.
Other films that were worthy of being on my top ten list was Paul Greengrass's powerful "United 93", Christopher Nolan's "The Prestige" which is about two magicians who rival against each other. There are also two indie hits that I want to mention. One is "Little Miss Sunshine" which is about a dysfunctional family lead by Greg Kinnear, Steve Carrell, and Alan Arkin. The other indie hit was "Akeelah and the Bee" which is about a young girl who enters The Scripps National Spelling Bee. I also thought that "Apocalypto" was a kick ass epic.
Three films that I have yet to see may make my top ten list. Those films are Clint Eastwood's "Letters from Iwo Jima", Bill Condon's highly anticipated "Dreamgirls" and Stephen Frear's "The Queen". I will catch up on those movies in January.
Since, there were so many films I saw this year, I thought I would give you the next best movies of 2006. That would be my 11 through 20 slots. Even, if the film was too short I was satisfied by the concluding chapter of the "X-Men" series. I would also add "The Descent", which is one of the creepiest and scary movies I've seen in years. Probably the scariest film since "Alien". If you like gore or gruesome fests you'll enjoy "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning". Scene after scene, in this film someone was getting decapitated or killed. Other films that would fill my 11-20 slots is the Will Farrell comedy "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby", the animated film "Monster House" and maybe some parts of "Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest, which I think was the biggest overrated movie of the year. Hopefully, the third chapter of "Pirates of the Carribean" is better or just as good as the first part. I'm also hoping for "Rocky Balboa" to be a crowd-pleaser over the Holiday Season.
We've talked about good movies now let's talk about the worst films of 2006. I'll begin with "An American Haunting" which is a totally miscast, predictable, boring little film from that "Dungeons and Dragons" director Courtney Solomon. This movie stunk so bad that I almost fell asleep watching it. I had to walk out of the film because I couldn't sit there watching Donald Sutherland and Sissey Spacek in a bad movie. The next film on my list of the worst movies of the year is a film that my girlfriend and I sat through. That movie is "Big Momma's House 2", the sequel to the popular Martin Lawrence film that came out in the summer of 2000. This film came out early in the year, so it was probably scheduled to be a dud at the time. Usually, the worst movies come out earlier in the year to make room for good movies at the end of the year.
Tim Allen did not have a good year at the box office. Two of his films got flushed down the toilet this year by critics. The re-make of "The Shaggy Dog" was absolutely atricious while his summer flop "Zoom" wasn't even screened by critics. I also wanted to add that his only hit this year "The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause" wasn't a bad movie but it wasn't a good movie either.
Now I know this may not be the worst movie of the year, but I think "Eragon" which comes out this Friday and is a highly anticipated movie based on a bestselling novel written by a 15 year old has a chance at being somewhere at the bottom of my worst list. "Eragon" which is not being screened by critics this week seems like a "bad sign" that the seven year road of fantasy flicks started by the hugely successful and historic "Lord of the Rings" and "Star Wars" Trilogies might be coming to an end. However, "Eragon" could be a film that spoofs off other fantasy films into what is something called "mad libs".
I also did not get a chance to see what many critics were calling the worst film of the year. Does Sharon Stone and her "Basic Instinct" sequel ring a bell? Yes it does.
Other flops of 2006 including an annoying Steve Martin in "The Pink Panther". This film was easy to make fun of. You were either laughing with the film, or laughing at the film. "The Grudge 2", which did not need a sequel also made my worst list. The make-up on Emma Thompson's "Nanny McPhee" was ugly and detesting. While I couldn't laugh at the jokes in the "Clerks 2" film I had hard time dealing with wimpy baseball players in "The Bench Warmers". "Date Movie" was a yawn and "The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift made the wrong turn. There were other movies that were so bad had to make room for 11 through 20 slots. Those movies include "Grandma's Boy", "Crank", "The Black Dahlia", "Pulse", and "The Last Kiss".
This year has been such an up and down year for movies that I have no clue who's going to win the Academy Award or who's going to win the Golden Raspberry Awards or even the Golden Globe Awards Maybe things will be clearer in January.
Overall, I'm glad another year has gone by and look forward to a better 2007 at the multiplexes. My prediction for 07' is that it's going to be another blockbuster and lackluster year at the movies. But there are some things that I hope for in 07'. The poster for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" looks great and I'm hoping the movie is great. I've seen the new trailer for "Spiderman 3" and I have to say it's my most anticipated movie of next year. I think it'll definitely be an improvement over the last two installments. And here's hoping that the new Pirates of the Carribean movie will not just be an achievement in special effects but also a achievement on story. I'm still looking forward to the third movie even though the second was a little overrated.

They made another "...Did Last Summer" movie? When did that happen? Is it the same hook guy again? Was Moesha (or was it Monica?) in it? I bet now Freddy Prinz Jr. would be begging to be in it. Where the hell did he go? World is better off without him. He can go off on an island with Ben Afflek and Chris O'Donnel for all I care. But when did they make another sequel?

Best? In no order at all
Casino Royale - The best Bond since Sir Sean.
V For Vendetta - So good, I was really suprised that this film got such a kicking at the hands of the critics.
I'm sure I'll think of a few more and add them in.
Worst?
Well, Superman Returns sucked ass.
The Break Up - Comedy? I don't think so, too close to the bone for my liking!
Apart from that I think I've been pretty lucky avoiding bad films this year.

Came out August 1st I believe. It was better than I anticpiated, which still isn't saying much, but it had it's own sense of style, which I can try to appreciate. The acting, effects and ESPECIALLY the big ending were terrible.
