This movie was not at ALL what the commercials led me to believe. This should have been at least a "PG13" Do NOT take the kids -- THIS ONE IS BAD!

I work at a movie theatre and a child left the movie early in tears as a result of it being too scary. I have read multiple reviews that all have said that this film is not recommended for children under 10. As always, you as a parent should be able to determine whether or not your child can handle a movie like this...

I saw it. There were a lot of kids under 10 there but fortunately we didnt get one cryer. As for the movie it was ok. The final battle kind of overstayed its welcome a little bit and some characters really could have been expanded upon (three characters never even get an ending). But all around it was a lot of fun and kept me entertained throughout. Plus the visuals and voicework were great.

Saw it Friday night. I give it a 6.5 out of 10. It had its moments, but 90 percent of the funny stuff was what you see in the trailer. My 7-year-old daughter, who scares easily, was frightened early on, but handled the rest of the movie just fine. There is kind of a long explanatory stretch where she was bored, but she ended up loving the movie.
We adults were less impressed. The special effects were amazing, but there are some serious gaps in the flow of the narrative and the movie just lost momentum about three fourths of the way through. The theater at the 9 p.m. show was less than half full, including the kids, and not one screamer in the bunch.

i saw it too and in 3D and it was not bad...but i agree, there were scenes that slowed down the pacing...but i do love the atomosphere of the movie which looked like it was set in the 80's (like the Goonies or E.T. era) with the cassette player and ripped jeans..very nice. i agree the cast and voicework was good, the motion capture was great and special effect were good. Dialogue wasn't bad at all but the movie seemed like it was aimed at a much more older youth audience as it had some language.

Looks pretty good. Will probably be a contender for Best Animated Film, but Cars will likely take it.

I really hope that this movie or quite possibly the many other animated movies coming out takes the award. I found Cars to be awful and certainly the worst PIXAR movie to date. I really enjoyed this movie and it deserves to win against what we have seen thus far....

Instead of all these kiddie movies coming out, why not re-release transformers the movie (animated) this summer to hype up next summer's movie.
They'd make a bundle

this is definately not a kids movie. Im a manager at a movie theatre and many many people wanted their refunds and were pissed cuz the movie scared their kids. I saw some of it, wasnt that bad, but I suppose for little ones it is pretty scary

I liked the movie. It was a fun cute little adventure with a few slight scares and a few good laughs. It works overall for me. I will definutly be adding the Blu-Ray to my collection.

Saw this today with my nephews who are 7 and 5, we all enjoyed it and thankfully they didn't get scared at all, but were laughing along. I do agree it should have been PG-13, though.
Great movie, I recommend it. :D

Why should it been PG-13. It wasn't violent no sexual content little bad language. The PG rating is enough. 20 years ago this would have gotten a G rating.

It had thematic elements, extremely scary moments (and old person "dying" on top of a child), language and some sexual innuendo.
It sure deserves a PG-13 rating.

So a decade ago Disney put out movies with all that stuff and got G rattings. A PG rating is fine.

Well I didn't stay after the credits. Had I done so I would of seen that all of the characters get their endings.
Which raises this to a
7.3/10 (.3 for all the characters)

None of those come close to the things in Monster House. The only one who comes slightly close is Hunchback.
These are only signs of mild violence, Monster House not only has violence but other elements I stated in a previous post.
Just to point a few things out...
BatB: You don't actually see the Beast getting stabbed.
LK: You don't actaully see Mufasa dying and even then it's far from "brutally murdered".
I can't comment on Hunchback because I haven't seen it in a long time.

I think people are overreacting.
Monster House in no way deserved a PG-13 IMO. It had a few sexual references and a couple of scary scenes but nothing anyone over 7 can't handle.

I saw the movie a couple of seconds ago with my friends and we all loved it. The animation was just awesome and I loved all the characters, the comedy, oh I was laughing all the way threw. I hope this movie gets nominated for animation and writing and voice acting every thing was perfect. I hope it gets a sequal. And kids really shouldn't bring there kids to a movie that has haunted house involved, hello didn't they see the previews it showed the house eating a man. Any ways yes I loved it, my favorite character had to be the err um chubby kid, {forget his name sorry} I really hope there's a sequal only with him as the star =]

great movie. not for kids. i think this one takes the animation oscar
When the hell do parents pay any attention to ratings though these days! I saw numerous parents taking kids of around 4/5 years old to see 12 rated King Kong last year! :nono:
As for Monster House, I saw it last night and it's not just a great animated film, but a great film full stop!
Without doubt the best animated film of the year and up there with Pixar's best IMO. Kind of reminiscent of 80's flicks like the Goonies, and there's that bit of Tim Burton influence as well. Such a pleasant change from the usual repetitive formula of CGI films these days ie [i]lots of cute little animal get in to various wacky scrapes etc etc etc.
I just hope that it gets the crowds that it deserves. Currently Cars is Number 1 at the UK box office, but if there's any justice in this world then Monster House will take over the top spot next week and remain there. :D

I really enjoyed this movie as well even though I am bit old for this stuff. I do agree with some of you that it needed a PG13 rating. Some people think that since a movie is CGI that it is for all ages and that is not the case at all. A lady came in with some really teeny kids and they were scared when the house started chasing the kids down the street. The movie was creepy and scary as it was meant to be so I wouldn't bring such yound kids to see it. As for the older kids. I think they would really enjoy it. I give it a 8/10. :)

I thought this movie was great, but agree that it's best not to take a little kid to. They could take the story line and change a few things and make it a horror film. i was shocked that the "uvula" part was in the movie, that part in the commercial was what led me to see it, actually.
