This is one of the funniest shows in the past couple of years.
I mean its a close call between this and The Office for best comedy of the year.
Sure this one has made me laugh more but The Office has the emotion counterpart to it. Anyways this show is drop-dead hilarious. Every episode is gold.

The season 3 episode "Bums: Making a Mess All Over the City" is one of the best episodes of a TV show I've ever seen. It was laughs almost every second in that one. Charlie as Serpico, Dennis' cat Secret Agent Jack Bauer, Dennis, Frank and Charlie all as cops and Dee and Mac as vigilantes. It just made a perfect episode.
Dennis: "Don't get cute with me, pal. I will jam you up so hard, I will jam you from morning until night. You want to get jammed up?"

Yeah, I felt this episode should have been an hour. Funny parts, no doubt, but still a big letdown. My favorite was probably the episode with Sinbad, or the Gas Crisis. Sinbad episode had the great Charlie/Dee storyline.
This was a disappointing one, though.

Yes, disappointing. At least for me it was. It was still hilarious, but not a great episode for the high expectations I have for this show. I would watch it again in a heartbeat though.
iv3rdawG
11-22-2008, 09:16 PM
After the three or so episodes before "The Nightman Cometh" you really shouldn't have been going in with that high of expectations unless you knew the name of the episode, which I did. I went in hoping for the best and I got it. I guess that's just me.
donny
11-22-2008, 09:40 PM
Disappointing? Come on. NIGHTMAN people, sheez. It was good to see the Waitress back too.
Yes, without doubt disappointing. Had they done what they did in the beginning of the season with the hour episodes and applied it to this, it would have been better. It was too quick of an idea. The play got put on way too fast. There should have been more around the making of the play, then the play itself. As I said, it had some funny moments, and it was great seeing Nightman. But, for the most part fell flat. I don't know why we shouldn't have gone in with high expectations for this.
This just wasn't one of the funnier episodes they have done. Like I said, the Sinbad and Gas Crisis were better, and so were the Manhunter and billboard ones.
Sorry, I just didn't find it to be that good of an episode.
iv3rdawG
11-22-2008, 09:43 PM
I don't know why we shouldn't have gone in with high expectations for this.
Didn't I explain that?
After the three or so episodes before "The Nightman Cometh" you really shouldn't have been going in with that high of expectations unless you knew the name of the episode, which I did..
Meaning, the three episodes before "The Nightman Cometh" weren't all that great. As Franklin said, "The Gang Cracks the Liberty Bell" was one of the worst of the series, give or take a few scenes.
I just thought it was a fantastic episode. It's fine if you didn't like it.
donny
11-23-2008, 12:33 AM
I understand that, but I mean, it's usually delivers, and that's where the expectations come from. It wasn't that episode in particular, but the show itself.

A few possible plot points for the new season were talked about in an interview with the cast. I'll put them in spoilers for people not wanting to read about them just yet:
Anyway, the guys told me that they are just about finished writing all the episodes for the upcoming fifth season and they will begin shooting them on May 5th. The premiere will most probably air in September.
They'll be dealing with the economic crisis this year for sure -- new poor vs. old poor, hahaha -- the Octomom -- Dee's barren, dry womb (Kaitlin's words, not mine) may house some babies, we'll see -- and there will be home movies, so we'll get a glimpse of the gang back in the day... yeah, I guess they were pretty much the same.

04-18-2009, 06:18 PM
Ya I was about halfway back towards the middle. It was difficult seeing at times if you weren't in the balcony or in the front, but I'm glad they filmed it. The sing-a-long to "Dayman" was excellent. Charlie's song to the Waitress at the end was so good when he came walking out. When he started walking down the stairs singing his long start "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh hoooo, I was that little boy that little baby boy was me, I once was a boy but now I am a man." "Will you come on stage and join me in this thing called matrimony? Please say yes and do not bone me. Please just marry meeeeeeeeee." That was probably my favorite moment of the show. So perfect. Haha and when the Waitress said, "You all suck for liking it too." was awesome.

Seattle, Boston, Upper Darby, SF, NY and L.A.
Go check it out if you can. Doomsday and I can both vouch that it's hilarious.
Fans of the hit show It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia will have their chance to see the gang up close and in person as they take “The Nightman Cometh” on the road. The musical performance was written by Rob McElhenney (Mac), Charlie Day (Charlie) and Glenn Howerton (Dennis) who all star along with Kaitlin Olson (Sweet Dee), and Danny DeVito (Frank) with special appearances by Mary Elizabeth Ellis (The Waitress) and Artemis Pebdani (Artemis). “The Nightman Cometh” is a live stage adaptation of a fan favorite episode from season four in which Charlie writes a rock opera to woo his longtime obsession, The Waitress. The stage show originally premiered in Los Angeles last Spring and, based on the success and fan buzz generated by the musical, producers decided to bring the live show on the road.

Ho, ho, heyooo! Christmas is nearly here and the Paddy’s gang has got the spirit. Well, not really. For them, the holidays have always been a time of trickery, backstabbing, and disappointment. But this year things are going to be different as they are determined to rediscover the joy in Christmas. Join Mac, Charlie, Dennis, Dee and Frank as they embark on a holiday adventure filled with stolen toys, childhood videos, naked elves and a bloody run in with Santa Claus that is guaranteed to blast Christmas spirit all over!
Fox Home Entertainment has announced DVD and Blu-ray releases of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: It's a Very Sunny Christmas for the 17th November. Extras will include deleted scenes ("Dad", "Dogs", "Bird"), a behind the scenes featurette, and a Sunny Sing-A-Long.

More info on the Christmas DVD:
We talked a little about Asbury Park, NJ, where he grew up, but then the subject turned to his current show, and the new holiday-themed DVD subtitled It's A Very Sunny Christmas. The DVD will be a never-before-seen feature-length episode where the gang spread Christmas cheer with their usual blend of inappropriate humor, uncomfortable situations and general mayhem.
DeVito mentioned the DVD as he talked about the exploits his character, Frank Reynolds, will be up to this year. "It's off the charts. I'll tell you, Oh my god. There's an intervention; I'm over the top they come in and intervene. I go to a frat house and have lots of fun there. We have a Christmas DVD coming out that's off the charts, doing everything we can't do on television. "It's like basically sex, and drugs and rock 'n' roll. Anything we want."

Seems to be improving the more I watch. One thing I have noticed though is that the show seems to be a big ad sometimes, like the Dave and Busters episode, they name dropped D&B over a doezen times. Also the box of wine episode (intervention episode), they seemed to be advertising the whole time about that box of wine and how great it was. Kind of odd and distracting imo but over all I am loving the new season!

That seemed like a meta-joke to me, the D&B and Coors references were so blatant and silly that I was laughing at them.

And keep in mind that was an episode on the recession, I thought the behind the scenes joke was more about them selling out rather than them just being sponsors.

Yea the D&B episode was about the recession, the wine drinking episode was about the intervention. I could get the joke on the D&B thing but they did it again on an episode that had nothing to do with selling out or anything.

BTW, dicktowels are awesome.
I can't believe Dave and Busters actually paid for the advertising and product placement in that episode a few weeks back. Having these hilariously classless and moronic characters go there and describe it as "steak in an arcade setting" is pretty much the opposite of an endorsement.

I thought last nights episode was pretty good. I think its one that will get better with repeat viewings. What a season this has been.

Last night's episode was fantastic. Dennis calling the girl and scaring the **** out of her was one of the funniest things I have seen in a while.

Yea I watched the Christmas special over the weekend. A must have for any Sunny fan. The scene with Frank and the couch make it worth picking up if you ask me. Very funny.

So last night was the season finale. I liked it a lot. I am glad they went for kind of a "back to basics" season 1/2 style episode instead of bringing back a running joke or doing something big and epic. The reveal of the poison beer was hilarious.
