Well, this episode does have one thing going for it from the get-go. Rick Rosenthal is directing, and his episodes are at least visually well-done (Lexmas and Rush anybody?). That opening sequence before the titles was great.

Smallville was crap tonight. They took the teen soap opera nonsense to an extreme.
JheyDC
03-16-2007, 12:22 PM
This episode was okay. One thing for sure is, they saved a lot of money filming the whole episode, with the same scene going back and forth thing. I kinda liked that about the show.
Spoilers do tend to spoil the episode for you, that's why there are people who'd rather not read the spoilers. Smallville is a great show, and it really had grown throughout the seasons. I believe the cast and crew deserves a pat on the back, they did good.
It's just disappointing that there won't be any metropolis action to the extreme like the previous S shows we've had, that's the only part.

There's the good old evil-threatening-to-kill-people Lionel Luther that we know and love. :) I don't like thinking of him as a good guy, so I actually enjoyed that.
As some one else said, mostly teen soap opera stuff, aside from that. Though I am glad that Lana FINALLY figured out Clark's secret.

Though I am glad that Lana FINALLY figured out Clark's secret.
she figured out a small detail of it
she just thinks he's an meteor freak, which he is not
and i'm pretty sure if she found out that he was an alien and he was responsible for killing her parents, she wouldnt of reacted the way she did (planned to cancel the wedding and meet Clark @ 5 o clock)
JheyDC
03-16-2007, 07:36 PM
We know why Lana did it,
-She didn't want to put Clark's life in danger, he saves her life, she saves his
-To have a close watch on Lex, to know his every move
We can also assume that, now that she's married to him, her life will be miserable which will cause complications with the baby, that will eventually lead to a miscarriage and/or death of Lana.
But before she dies, she will find out the truth about Clark, but it will be too late.
I liked how they put everything together last night, the whole going back wards and forward thing.

Looks like a fun episode, it will be interesting to see Clark and Kane go at it.
I liked it if only for the return of evil Lionel. Everyone suddenly forgetting the horrible things he's done and inviting him to Thanksgiving dinner was excruciating to watch, it was like they were throwing the last five years of continuity out the window.
But before she dies, she will find out the truth about Clark, but it will be too late.
She already did figure it out this episode. Remember when she was sitting in the wine cellar and saw Clark pull the door off and seal it with heat vision? And that episode with the blind guy who could detect meteor freaks, she said she was pretty sure Clark was a meteor freak.
BTW, you don't have to spoiler tag your predictions. ;)

No, not really. Clark Kent in this version of the story, will never become Superboy (straight from Gough/Millar). He's Clark Kent, and he'll eventually become Superman. I'm not saying he should be donning the tights and flying around just yet, but he could at least embody the same morals and ideas that our Superman does. Sure, he shows flashes of those morals every now and then, but he's still a ways off from truly embracing his destiny.

Like I said, the episode wasn't perfect. I loved the fight scene since, well, it was a fight scene and not just Clark getting knocked down in less than a minute. And, the Lana baby stuff was pretty cool. But everything else was...meh. What could have improved the episode was less of Clark mooping about Lana. He needs to get over it already. They could have had Chloe watching online the "fight" between Lois and Clark. And, speaking of Lois, the episode could have ended with her article being published and Chloe getting all jealous and s--t. That would have been nice. And, maybe giving Kane's character more development. Instead he's just some random guy Clark has to fight.

And for people who say this Clark doesn't act like Superman....well, he kind of does. He just needs to improve more on being a proper dead beat, act like Jar Jar, and um...smile more often.

Sora -time to stop with the Superman bashing, seriously. You're bashing a character because of a movie you didn't like that came out last year and just harping on it. You don't hear those of us that like it still exclaiming how great we thought it was every time we get the chance (or noting how great it did on DVD release and the good reviews it got). Just let it go and start talking about stuff that the thread is actually about.
Just finished watching the episode. The fight between Kane and Clark was indeed very entertaining. Lana losing Lex's baby is probably something on the plus side. That Dr Langston was he the guy Lex killed underneath the altar last week? Still there's something about that baby that we don't know about yet.
Speaking of Ashley I saw her Playboy spread. They were nothing to harp on about really. Attractive lady boring spread. :meanie:

According to the actor, MM will be returning next season. I think they just wanted to get all this Clexana stuff out of the way this season, without diluting it with too many other stories. 'Cause then people would hang it on Clark for caring about Lana, while he has this other guy mentoring him. Kill Clexana in season 6, and then season 7 can be about more mythology kind of stuff.

So who would your alternate ego be?
If it is Chloe, then I think it might have something to do with her tears and being a phoenix, and being reborn as some kind of higher entity
On the other hand, if it is
Lana, then I think it might be staged, and we'll se her return 6 or 7 episodes into Season 7.
She has some project that she's working on with her boyfriend, so she may have asked for some time off.

I don't even know what to make of any of that. I'm guessing those were from the jumble of script reports or leaks and whatnot? I'll wait until our more legit spoiler sources come around to weigh in on it.

Too important to the mythos to actually kill her off. Sure this is SV. But that'd be a major deviation from the source material, even for Smallville.

Craig, in not so many words, has pretty much confirmed the legitimacy of that script.
This new spoiler could also be some damage control.
There's also the possibility that Bizarro Clark kills real Clark.

You would think so, but you never know. I just dont see the point of bringing her story to almost a full circle, without that last little piece and we wouldnt get that last little piece if she died
Dansgurl The contracts are put in place so the actors cant break them, but the showrunners can end a contract early.

I have to ask; Why so much hatred towards Chloe? She is my favorite Female Smallville character. If there was to be a choosing between her dying or Lana dying, I'd have the writers put a bullet in Lana's head themselves. And I for one found last night's episode very good. Sorry peeps, I'm a solid Chloe fan.

i think lois is the only decent female character on the show- she is a strong woman, the other two are whiney. I think chloe fans make me dislike the character more as well, not only is she overrated on the show but the idea of her not being important in the grand scheme of things really annoys them. They don't seem to understand that chloe is unnecessary- she basically takes the confidant role of lana and the journalist role of lois. Now we have both of those on the show and by now well in those roles its time to remove her.

Courtesy of K-Site (from Paris, France at the 2007 Jules Verne Fesitval):
Tom Welling is signed with the show through an 8th season. It sounds like the producers want the show to ultimately go for eight years, and end it there.
Michael Rosenbaum's contract ends with Season 7, so if there is an eighth year, it will be Clark vs. other villains. However, Michael COULD guest star.
Aaron Ashmore will be back as Jimmy in Season 7. It sounds like he could have a 13-episode contract, though we don't think it was confirmed.
Justin Hartley (Green Arrow) won't be back next year as he is attached to another project.

Someone needs to explain to me whether Lana was really carrying a baby, and if not, where did those sonograms come from that Lex torched in the fireplace?
To me, I think the whole pregnancy thing was something Lex created to get Lana to marry him. His doctor kept her drugged. This could only go on for so long, but Lex knew they'd be married by the time Lana would "lose" the baby. Lex never cared for Lana. He was just using her. That's why he let the doctor at Metropolis General check her out and not someone that he was paying. Now Lana knows her baby was a fake, and Lex will make it look as if it was her that faked it to get the marriage rushed and get some money from Lex. Smearing Lana's reputation is just another way of getting back at Clark. The sonograms were just faked. Just like showing video on a screen.
That's just what I got from it, I could be way off.

He's in that "Kickin' it Old School" or whatever it's called now too.
If Lex wanted to keep the cover up going, he would. He let the doctor at Metropolis General check Lana out. He wanted her to know the truth just so that now she'll be scared. He's probably already changed the locks at the mansion.

And now, some complaining over the small things.
If you are going to do a really close close-up on just the mouth area of a woman, it would probably be a good idea to wax that person's upper lip first.
Right after Jimmy falls into the black and white world, he receives a call from a mystery caller (Lana) telling him that she would like to report a murder.
All I could do was stare at her mustache.
Kristin, for the love of God, wax that thing before they get a close up of your mouth again.

I thought it was a fun little filler episode. Its funny cause Lois and Clark had a similar episode. Remember when Lois, Clark, Perry, and Lex were held hostage and they later found out that the Daily Planet used to be a mob hangout back in the `40s or whatever. The flashbacks were done to the style of old movies from the `40s.
Found it interesting that Smallville would do a similar episode.

It was tribute to old movies.
I got that it was a tribute to old movies. But for a show geared toward a young audience, that was just a stupid thing to do. The black & white look and clothing was all that was needed to convey that it was an old movie style.

I actually really liked this weeks episode. It's a turning point for Lois in her career and now she's more determined than ever. I marked out over that. :D
And I was also impressed with Lex too. His outbursts are evidence enough that he's getting more evil by the minute not to mention what he said to Lana about betrayal not knowing what he'll do if she betrayed him.
And Martha replacing the murdered Senator Burke. Will Annette O'Toole be reduced to a guest starring role seeing as she'll be spending time in Washington? I do hope not.

Clark has killed tons of people in this series before. Even in the first season. Most of the time its by accident and the person gets impaled after he throws them, or something.
This one wasn't even bad. He shot lasers at the guy so he wouldn't attack him. The cyborg could have probably survived, but the marine guy decided to not let him heal so he could die and not be an evil tool of Lex.

Agreed. I'm not really sure what did it in for me. I think the fact that nothing really happens from week to week is what stopped me from continuing to watch it. Justice was great, Labyrinth was good, Crimson was alright, and the recent Nemesis was fantastic... but other than those four, the second half of this season has been terrible. 'Course, I didn't watch Prototype which could have been really good for all I know, but I'd doubt it.
With the exception of Subterranean, I thought the first 12 episodes or so were quite good (Wither is pushing it, I'll admit, but even that formally introduced the Green Arrow).
If the season finale lets me down, there's a good chance I'll be done with this show for good. It's a shame really, because it's the only show I've been watching from the very beginning. As big a fan of Lost as I am, I didn't get into it until this past summer. Smallville I've been watching since the Pilot way back in October of 2001.

Yeah, there hasn't been an episode as good as Justice. I think the last one I actually liked was crimson.

I'm glad I decided to tune in. That cold opening was fantastic. Hopefully the rest of the show is just as good. I also really liked the season summary they showed at the beginning. It really made the season look better than it was. ;)

Wow... the last few minutes were pretty cool, but I didn't really care about the rest. Lana is dead. Finally. Other than that though, pretty much everything else was more or less uneventful. I'll be honest, unless Season 7 looks amazing I'm probably done with Smallville. In my opinion, the show has gone on long enough, and it doesn't seem to be moving forward anymore. Every season has made giant leaps forward (perhaps not in the quality of the show itself, but definitely in the "grand scheme" of storytelling, so to speak). We went from Season 1 which basically was just "I'm Clark. I have powers. I use those powers to protect my friends and the residents of Smallville," all the way up to Season 5 which was essentially Superman in-training.
Now we've seen the end of Season 6. In general, I hated this season. I liked the premiere, and I thought the first half was fairly strong, but everything else was just terrible. When they stopped using the "gimmicks" (Green Arrow, the Justice League, Martian Manhunter, etc.), the season went downhill. In previous seasons, the episodes were just kind of random, and really could have been played in any order. That used to bother me until Season 6.
This season, they took a shot at TWO season-long story arcs (Lex/33.1/the phantoms, and Lana's pregnancy). And I hated both of them. I blame part of the show's failure on its budget. They just don't have the cash to spend on FX that would really make us think he's Superman. Let's say a train's tracks are destroyed, and Clark superspeeds in to lay down as replacement rail so the train can safely pass (ala Superman: The Movie). If Smallville did that, they'd have just blown half their budget. And they've got another 21 episodes to produce.
But what I feel is the main problem at hand, is the fact that as a character, Clark doesn't really change over time. He's more or less the same old goofy Clark from Season 1. He still whines about Lana and Lex as opposed to actually just doing something about his problems. He still tends to run away from responsibility. And he'd be a much stronger, more intelligent person if he would just listen to Jor-El for a change instead of assuming he knows better (which usually, he doesn't).
I'm glad they're making a seventh season. I'd hate to see what used to be a great show end on such a sub-part season as this one.

Why would you want to watch this episode based on my opinions? I know we've agreed in the past, but I spent basically my entire post bashing the show.
But out of 10... I'd probably give this episode a 7 or an 8. Which, is pretty low for a season finale.

Red-K Clark doesn't think bad things are good. He loses his inhibitions and just does whatever he wants instead of using his common sense.

Well, Season 6 wasn't that good anyway. The first half of the season, Clark was a whimp. That Zod battle was laughable. He sure as hell not a superman.

Yeah, they'll think of some way that she survived. They'll probably say that she jumped into that truck that passed by. So that it appeared that she died. But I don't think she's dead either.
I thought it was a pretty good finale. And Bizarro WOW!!! What a cliffhanger not to mention a few loose ends being tied up. And more Martian Manhunter too. :)
And I don't really think she's dead either. Though I could have sworn I saw a head drop toward the steering wheel when her car was on fire.
And Lois being revived by Chloe. So what happens to Chloe now? I think alot of Chloe fans are gonna be really angry if she really is dead.
Otherwise a great finale. Roll on September.

Smallville is one of my favorite shows, but the writers are skating on some thin ice. They can't turn Clark into Superboy or Superman for fear of a lawsuit from the Salkins, but they are coming pretty close to that point. It's going to be interesting to see what happens in season 7.

what? the salkinds dont own the rights to superman...
Wow, what a ****ty power. You get one teardrop to kill yourself and revive someone else. Great. mmhmm. Chloe better not be dead, cuz thats pretty much the worst way I could possibly imagine.
This episode wrote off Martha and could easily kill Lana, Chloe, and Lionel (although one or two will probably not really be dead.) I guess they aren't confident about any of the actors (except for Clark, Lex, and Lois) wanting to come back.

From my opinion, killing off the "Physical" Chloe, does make sense. I mean she's not in any of the Superman Series and she is the key to Lois's great journalistic skills, because Lois is actually Chloe! Makes sense. So, Chloe is the one who dies this Season, so sad. Really not the way I wanted her to go!

Dont count choe out just yet:
Here's that write-up:
Returning for its seventh season, this new interpretation of the enduring Superman mythology and its classic characters blends realism and adventure into an exciting action series. Fourteen years ago, a meteor shower burst from the heavens, raining destruction on the unsuspecting citizens of Smallville, Kansas. From the ashes of tragedy, emerged Clark Kent. Struggling to come to grips with his emerging superpowers, while battling the strange events that have plagued this idyllic Midwest hamlet since the meteor shower, Clark slowly learns to embrace his destiny. SMALLVILLE chronicles Clark's journey toward becoming the Man of Steel and his relationships with girl-next-door Lana Lang, future love Lois Lane and soon-to-be arch-nemesis Lex Luthor.
The series stars Tom Welling as Clark Kent, Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang, Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor, Erica Durance as Lois Lane, Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan, John Glover as Lionel Luther and Aaron Ashmore as Jimmy Olsen. Reinterpreting the Superman mythology from its roots, SMALLVILLE was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar ("Shanghai Noon," "Spiderman 2"), based on the DC Comics characters. Gough and Millar serve as executive producers, along with Ken Horton, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins, Joe Davola, Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson and Todd Slavkin & Darren Swimmer. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions, Millar/Gough Ink and Warner Bros. Television. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster.

The writers have to be able to end the show and still be able to rougly tie it in with the comics and movies. I don't see how they would want to have a bunch of extraneous characters in the show, because ultimately that would confuse people and result in less viewership, etc.

Supergirl Returns!
We had a little hint of her in Season 3's finale episode... now TV Guide is reporting that Clark's Kryptonian cousin may be coming to Smallville on a more permanent basis.
"With his [adopted] father dead and his [adopted] mother moved to Washington [to become a U.S. Senator], and Lana blown up, suddenly there’s some family in his life,'' Smallville creator Al Gough tells TV Guide.
“She has all of Clark’s powers and a couple he doesn’t have yet,” Gough teases. “She can fly. And her response when Clark asks why is ‘obviously girls mature faster than boys.’”
Kara makes her first appearance in the Season 7 premiere. To read more about this new addition, read the link below...

And hey, where does she come from and why hasn't she shown up before?
She was sent after Kal-El to look after him, by Zor-El (Clark's biological uncle), most likely without Jor-El's knowledge. When Jor-El took over Lindsay's body in 'Covenant', he probably based her personality on the real Kara (his niece).
When Kara crash landed 16-years ago, unlike Kal-El's vessel, hers stayed in suspension. She never woke up, until Clark and Bizarro-Clark clashed together at the end of Season 6. It's likely the energy that was exerted during that clash awoke Kara, and she will save his ass.
