DiCaprio to Play Theodore Roosevelt
Source: Variety September 12, 2005

Paramount Pictures has optioned the Pulitzer Prize-winning Edmund Morris book The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt and will develop it for Martin Scorsese to direct and Leonardo DiCaprio to star as the 26th U.S. president, reports Variety. Nicholas Meyer (The Human Stain) is writing the script.

The film will chronicle the formative years of Roosevelt as he reinvented himself from a slight and privileged New York politician with a Harvard degree to the burly commander of the Rough Riders, a track that would lead him to the New York governorship, the vice presidency and the White House, when William McKinley was assassinated.

DiCaprio and Scorsese are in the midst of their third film together, The Departed, the Warner Bros. remake of the Hong Kong crime drama Infernal Affairs. The duo also made Gangs of New York and The Aviator together.

i understand using an actor you respect and trust, but it is starting to be rediculous. i mean cast dicaprio is he is right for the part, but dont if he's not.

Robert De Niro was and still is one of the greatest actors of all time. So, I understand that Scorsese and DeNiro have worked together so many times. As for Leo, well I do not know. Should be interesting.

I think it would be cool if Leo played Teddy in his younger years and possibly Deniro when hes older?

That would be awesome! The only problem is that DeNiro will be so good that it will make Leo look bad.

do you really think DeNiro is good after seeing Meet the parents 1&2 ..

What's wrong with the Meet the Parents films? DeNiro is one of the greatest actors of all-time. He may be doing some silly comedies now, but I think he can still deliever a classic DeNiro performance if he wanted to.

Uh, yes?

A few bad movies doesn't take away his talent.

Leo Dicaprio is a very good actor, so don't go bashing him just because your girlfriend thinks he's cute.

Henri Ducard mentioned something about Deniro making Dicaprio look like a bad actor. Maybe I misunderstood his meaning, but it seemed like bashing to me.

I think he meant that Leo is good. But Deniro would be so good that it would make Leo look bad.

DeNiro hasn't been great since '97 (Jackie Brown and Wag the Dog). Leo's been great the past few years, especially with Scorsese.

Hell, they've got the guy who made Wrath of Khan writing the script. This project can do no wrong.

I think we're overlooking the fact that Scorcese really hasn't made a GREAT film in a long time, and hopefully The Departed and this will put him back at the top of his game. I had the same hopes with The Aviator, which wasn't bad, but Scorcese needs to get back to the Mean Streets/Taxi Driver days.
