View Full Version : The Cs Top 400... A Beginning

As I was doing the Top 500 songs I was thinking... imdb has a top 250... Rotten Tomatoes has a top ranking as well.... so why shoudln't CS? The answer is that because nobody's done it yet. But seeing as we're better than imdb we'll make it a top 400.
It will be done approximately the same way as the Top 500 songs was.
To start I will need 11 volunteers to nominate 25 movies apeice in 4 different categories sorted by date (though not quite the same dates as the Top 500 songs)
Nominators should not be focused on a particular genre or timeframe of movies. Please pm me with interest if you like.

I don't know if I would say it hasn't been done, it has at least been tried many times...just perhaps not successfully. ;)

I think it's important to not over-look any films. Right now I realized I forgot some films to post as consideration.
In the Heat of the Night (1967)
Duck, You Sucker (1971)
Enter the Dragon (1973)
My Name Is Nobody (1973)
1900 (1976)
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1982)
Plains, Trains, and Automobile (1987)
The Last Emperor (1987)
Y Tu Mama Tambien (2001)
We should also consider animated films like Snow White, Pixar films, Nightmare Before Christmas, etc.

How will it work Ty? You get 1200 noms from the nominators right? Well...or maybe not, as they probably will nominate many of the same movies?
Anyway, when you have your list will it continue with voting from the rest? Like a 1 on 1 battle thread? Or...? :)
Info hehe.

lol. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see Godfather, Citizen Kane, Pulp Fiction, and 2001 on everyone's list. I guess it's gonna be a mutual/collaborative list. I think films we will most likely be seeing on this list are:
1) Anything by Tarantino
2) A lot of modern films like Sideways
3) Godfather films
Tornado
08-22-2005, 09:46 AM
Well, yeah we're all going to have several more modern films. The nominators are choosing films in four different groups. One of those groups consists of films from 1996 - 2005.

1900 - 1975 and then
1976 - 1985
1986 - 1995
1996 - 2005
I had REALLY HARD TIME squishing only 25films into the first category...
It was rather badly chosen imo - to have 75 years timespan...
First category shouldve been only till 1950.
I had to make LOTS of compromises.
But its done already, so whatever...

agreed, having that many films crunched in together was a very bad idea. I had a surplus of films I wanted to put in the first catagory, whereas I had to struggle to fit them into the rest of the catagorys, especially 1976 - 1985, being as 1981-1985 was for the most part a particularly weak era for cinema. I wish it had at least been 1900-1960, having to fit all that early 70's stuff in along with all the classics was particulary hard.

08-22-2005, 06:32 PM
Oh, I completely agree. I still have not figured out which 25 films I want to use for 1976-1985. I've got like 18 of them or so, but the rest of the categories I finished pretty easily.
EDIT - Just finished. Turned out I had 24 done instead of 18. Sent mine in Ty.

It would appear some explaining is in order.
There will, in the end, be 300 movies per era (in the eras listed as above)
Basically we start out nomming 25 each (which if we had no dupes would equal out to 300 per era). Once I have all those tabulated the list will go out to the nominators only (who shall keep it a secret upon penalty of... something really really bad) as well as how many more we need for each era per person. We then re-nominate with that amount until the 4 lists are full.
Once the lists are done and I have the point system ready the list will go up on the board. You will be asked to rank a certain number of the nominated movies. Those ranks will be assigned points and then the movies are ranked according to point total in the end.
Thats the basics anyways.... there are certain other rules to follow but I'll post them when I post the list.
Oh and I put the eras as I did because many people will not know many of the classic movies. However they will know movies from 1970 onwards for the most part. Hence the overlap not only serves to make sure that everyone has enough movies they know in the first category but also to make the lasst category 10 years long.
