does anyone know when the Dune:EE is coming to the states? i was looking around for it last night and the sites i went to said to be announced 2005 or just 2005. i went to dvd answers to check it out, and typing in dune brought me to a bunch of articles, the most recent one titled that it was taken off the schedule, but when i clicked on it i was brought to an article saying that it was slated for a late 2005 release. does anyone know whats going on with it?

The last thing I remember hearing was that they were giving Lynch 250,000 to spruce up the effects or something for the DVD release. I would like to know what is going on myself.

Because we don't know either. They've been endless rumours about David Lynch getting involved, but nothing has been offically confirmed. Until we have David on record as saying he's doing it, I think you'll just have to settle for the existing dvd.

Now wait a minute. I remember reading that it was official that Lynch was onboard. However no release date was set.

Ok I just bought the SE dvd and there are 2 versions, my question is why does it say the SE was directed by someone other than David Lynch and is it the better version of the two? I haven't watched them yet so I can't decide what one is better.

Alan Smithee is the long-standing name that gets filed under the "Directed by" credit when a filmmaker doesn't want to leave his name on it anymore. David Lynch quite famously disowned the extended cut and therefore his name goes away and on go "Alan Smithee" and "Judas Booth". I think it's silly that Universal actually listed those names on the back of the DVD as it will make people like myself laugh in disbelief that Universal seems to think the fact that a director disowning a movie is something to advertise, and b) confuse everyone who doesn't know about Alan Smithee.
