I'm want to make copies of a TV show I recorded, but I'm not sure I have the equipment to do so. I read about hooking two VCRS together to copy tapes, but those were the kind of VCRS you need to hook up to your TV. I have the TV/DVD/VCR combo. I was wondering if anyone knows if you can hook up two TV/DVD/VCR combos if you want to copy VHS tapes.

Hmmm - don't really know - because I'd never buy a combo like that (because if one thing goes wrong you have to send the whole thing away to get it fixed)
but there must be some sort of Audio/video jacks in the back aren't there?

Yeah the only way you could get this done is if each set has both input and output RCA connections or coaxial connects. You would do better to use standard VCRs to dupe.

What i want to know... Is their anyway to rent a DVD and copy it onto a BLANK DVD? Yes, I know this is illegal, but hey, I AM JUST CURIOUS lol. Now, I know for a fact you can rent a VHS and copy it to a blank VHS - all you need is some device that descrambles the rented VHS.

Anyone know how to do this with a DVD? Just curious again;)

In order to copy a VHS tape that you made to another VHS tape you need 2 VCR's and RCA cables (the Yellow, White, and Red cables).

All you do is connect the RCA cables to the "output" of one VCR and the "input" of the other. Play the tape in the VCR with the "output" connection. and record on the other VCR.

I think some of them may be guarded against copying

As long as you have the output from one going to the input of the other it should work.

Could hooking up a TV/VCR and DVD/VCR together work?
As long as they have the same type of connections and atleast one of them has an output (most likely the DVD/VCR).

Well you need a PC with at least a DVD Burner on it. From the way I understand it the real DVD are Dual Layer DVD's (in other words they hold 9 gigs of data) and most DVD-R disks are single layer disks (4.5 gigs) there fore you can not completly clone a real DVD without using the super expensive 9 gig didsk. So most people use special programs to first decode the DVD then use a shrinking program (DVD Shrink) to get it to fit on a standard single layer dvd-r.

This is a great tutorial on the subject:

Uh but my buddy who told me about all this says the the VOB blanker mentioned in the tutorial is an unneeded step cause the DVD Shrink can do the same functions.
