(yes, this is a direct ripoff of Halo7's thread. WANNA FIGHT ABOUT IT? ;))
I might as well post my newest one here for you, just for the hell of it. I did the lyrics and my friend came up with a nice melody, complete with acoustic guitars and later on we'll throw in some piano. OH YEAH:
Hey Hey Mary Jane:
Hey Mary Jane
We gotta write a song for you
You hold us all in your open arms
Making sure all our dreams get along
Oh Mary Jane
You deserve all the songs written on pen and paper
Look what you've done to all our lives
We all could've went to college and made our lives right
But not tonight
You make me feel so good
Like you always have and always should
So hey hey Mary Jane
Hey Mary Jane
We gotta write a song for you
You hold us all in your open arms
Making sure all our dreams get along
Oh Mary Jane
Oh Mary Jane
Oh Mary Jane
Oh Mary Jane
I can find your number in the phone book
I can find you at a party if I really look
And Mary Jane, don't you ever exhale
If I hang around you too much I might wind up in Jail
Oh yeah yeah, hey Mary Jane
We gotta write a song for you
You hold us all in your open arms
Making sure all our dreams get along
Mary Mary Mary
Mary Jane

It's Rainin' Outside!
In case you didn't notice, it's not exactly sunny weather
And it seems it's not going to get any better
It's rainin' outside, so you'd better come back to the light
C'mon back in before you catch a cold
Any minute now this'll all turn to snow
So girl, c'mon back to the porch light
It's Rainin' Outside!
O you're foolish trying to drive in this
Outside the wind is blowin, and inside we could get a fire going
Just you wait and see
But if you must, I have this to say before you go:
Put on your brand new jacket
Put someone's picture in your locket, and stuff it in to your coat pocket
You know normally I don't mind, but damnit darling
It's Rainin' outside!
Oh it's Rainin' Outside!
So you'd better come back inside
Oh it's rainin' outside!
I don't wanna see you go
There I go, I'm all alone again
You've walked back out to the icy cold wind
You're going out driving, girl
You're gonna be one more dead friend
Why do you wanna go?
Put on your brand new jacket
Put someone's picture in your locket, and stuff it in to your coat pocket
You know normally I don't mind, but damnit darling
It's Rainin' outside!
Oh it's Rainin' Outside!
So you'd better come back inside
Oh it's rainin' outside!
I don't wanna see you go
(SOLO)
Oh it's Rainin' Outside!
So you'd better come back inside
Oh it's rainin' outside!
I don't wanna see you go
Oh it's Rainin' Outside!
So you'd better come back inside
Oh it's rainin' outside!

Wait until you read my next one. My only other drug-referencing song, and I try to be clever but I don't think it works. Fans of the musical "The Sound of Music" will hopefully catch the reference in the chorus. :D

Done. It's been done for awhile. Since December to today I've written 53 songs, total.

Okay. I'll post it. It's honestly the worst thing I've ever put on paper, but it was after I got home from smoking pot on this hill overlooking my town, and so I titled it On a Hill With Friends. It's terrible, but some constructive criticism would be nice. Musical fans: try and catch the "Sound of Music" references.
Holy crap, it's snowing outside
And I can't even see my eyes
Pay attention closely, that Koala Bear just winked at me
Come and see
Come and see
That rust colored sun makes me feel like I'm on drugs
So pick up your guitar
Creativity is booming
Right now music is kinda soothing
Raindrops on kittens
Whiskers on roses
Bright Copper Mittens
White Bearded Moses
Give me a hug girl, because I'm on drugs
Playful wordplay can never be honest
If I'm dying, you're lying
High makes you thought it!
(what does it mean?)
Look the hell out now, not all is what it seems
Especially when you're sniffing glue
The Koala Bear in the chair thinks so too
Oh come and see
Come and see
So pick up your guitar
Creativity is booming
Right now music is kinda soothing
Raindrops on kittens
Whiskers on roses
Bright Copper Mittens
White Bearded Moses
Give me a hug girl, because I'm on drugs
He he he
Ha ha ha
Cheerleaders go ra ra ra
This cosmic show has lost it's charming glow
Pick up my favorite instrument, the Xylophone
(SOLO)
Raindrops on kittens
Whiskers on roses
Bright Copper Mittens
White Bearded Moses
Give me a hug girl, because I'm on drugs
Raindrops on kittens
Whiskers on roses
Bright Copper Mittens
White Bearded Moses
Give me a hug girl, because I'm on drugs
I'm on drugs!(hey hey hey)
I'm on drugs!(hey hey hey)
I'm on drugs!(hey hey hey)
I'm on drugs!(hey hey hey)

Actually, what I thought of once you brought up Yoko was the SNL parody with Paul and John's fried chicken franchise. I would have made a reference to it but I wasn't sure if you would have known what I was talking about ;)

Haha, is that like the Stevie Nicks mexican restaurant? :D
But yeah, I need to start writing better songs, improving my craft, whatever. Going on to new territory. I've noticed that 90% of my songs have been directly related to my infatuation with just one girl, though if you read all of those songs it'd all seem so general, there's that one direct underlining influence - kind of like Pattie Boyd to Eric Clapton.
JBond
05-16-2005, 02:46 AM
Not to mention 90% of all songs ALREADY are about a girl. Bugs me too, songs can be written abot so many things, yet so many people think they're the first person to fall in love (or out of love) and has to share it. No offense or anything ;).
Pearl Jam has a song called "Go" which is about Eddie Vedder's car not starting. Try something new.

Well, I have before.
"Mars Jam" = weird little jam song with lyrics influenced by H.G. Wells' 'The World of the Worlds'
"Let's Light Some Fireworks!" = the dangers of fireworks on the 4th of July
"Eugene the Simpleton" = Actually the city of Eugene, though I refer to 'Eugene' as a person.
"The Jazz Musician" = Ode to a reclusive Jazz musician who could live on your block but you'd never know it because the tall grass blocks his windows.
JBond

Mars Jam, nice. ;)
I noticed in your signature you have Revolution lyrics:
You say you got a real solution
Well you know we'd all love to see the plan
That's funny, I always thought it was "You say you got a resolution." That's weird how they mean practically the same thing and sound almost identical.
Brock Landers
05-16-2005, 02:59 AM
Mars Jam, nice. ;)
It's actually one of the few recordings that survived from my failed band experiment. Lots of synth, weird sound effects, me yelping out fragmented lyrics. It's like if we ran a Syd Barrett song through a vacuum cleaner and Nigel Godrich added in synths. The lyrics to me are hilariously cheesy and I was aiming for that.
And, oh there's also "Walking Home at Midnight", a first-person Narrative about some guy walking home from his girlfriend's house after he killed her.

And, oh there's also "Walking Home at Midnight", a first-person Narrative about some guy walking home from his girlfriend's house after he killed her.
Walking Home At Midnight:
I've walked down this road once before
After I looked at you and said no more
These words I write I hate, and it's getting kind of late
Left your room, it's all said and done
This night took a turn, I had no more fun
No more you can't lie, when you're gone no more can I cry
It's just too damn late now for this
It's too dark tonight
To dark go back and make things right
So I'm walking home at midnight
I'm walking home at the midnight hour
Oh, the city noise couldn't get much louder
Wandering around the city park
Under the blindless of this new found dark
My legs can't go much faster
Cop cars around the end, this city at night can really suck you in
I think my steps are getting much lighter
Left your house, couldn't shout
Footsteps and fingerprints all over the place
Getting up and leaving has become like the seasons
It hasn't happened like this before
It's too dark tonight
To dark go back and make things right
So I'm walking home at midnight
I'm walking home at the midnight hour
Oh, the city noise couldn't get much louder
Where did your character go?
Where did the girl go who I used to know?
Where did her pretty smile go?
Oh now I think they'll all know how it all goes
(SOLO)
It's too dark tonight
To dark go back and make things right
So I'm walking home at midnight
I'm walking home at the midnight hour
Oh, the city noise couldn't get much louder
It's too dark tonight
To dark go back and make things right
So I'm walking home at midnight
I'm walking home at the midnight hour
Oh, the city noise couldn't get much louder

And stop putting yourself down.. seriously.. they're great lyrics. Maybe a little repetitive here and there but alot of songs are. It's something you can work on later.

Broken Chopsticks
She never said what she was
Korean, Japanese, Chinese, or all of the above
It don't matter
I'd follow her around just because
From what I've learned, her family came from money
To some she looks kinda funny
But what do they know?
(What do they know?)
I say what do they know?
(What do they know?)
Oh nothing, nothing at all
Broken Chopsticks
Left upon the floor
This time it seems different
She's asian, and I'm full-blown caucasian
Broken Chopsticks
How could she not be more?
I could tell you but you'd never believe me
Her samurai ex-boyfriend tried to kill me
Told him all I wanted to do was protect her
From all the people who tried to heckle her
She drove a mercedes, I drove a rusted old bike
I'd stand under her window almost every night
But what do they know?
(What do they know?)
I say what do they know?
(What do they know?)
Oh nothing, nothing at all
Broken Chopsticks
Left upon the floor
This time it seems different
She's asian, and I'm full-blown caucasian
Broken Chopsticks
How could she not be more?

The Jazz Musician
A Jazz Musician lives on your street
You'd never know it, he doesn't leave his house
So you'll never hear his feet
The grass in his front yard is 100 feet tall
And he stands 5 feet tall, all and all
Back in the 40's people would come and see him
At gigs people would shout "come on, come on"
He was dating supermodels with their wicked designs
Something happened on day, that made him flee town
And live on your street, he locks out the world
Old age has overtaken him, time sure flies
You'd never notice him, even the day he dies
Tall grass is blocking in his world
The Jazz Musician
The Jazz Musician
Locking out the world
The Jazz Musician
The Jazz Musician
Locking out the world
Jazz
Jazz
Jazz Musician
Blocking out the world

Sugar Cookie
Sugar Cookie, my China in the sun
Don't you know that the old life is done?
Tell your sister her cookies were good
But the time has come to leave this town
Forever and ever ever
Forever and ever ever
Don't ask for my number
There's no place you can reach me
It's all falling down
It's all coming asunder
Sugar Cookie, oh
You're not all that great
Sugar Cookie called from the valley back home
I told her it's best she leave me alone
Futures get wasted in my impossible twisted psyche and dreams
And Sugar Cookie, by following me you're coming apart at the seams
Forever and ever ever
Forever and ever ever
Don't ask for my number
There's no place you can reach me
It's all falling down
It's all coming asunder
Sugar Cookie, oh
You're not all that great
It's time to lose touch
Hangin' with me, girl you'll lose too much
Don't ask for my number
Forever and ever ever
Forever
Forever
Forever and ever ever
(SOLO)
Don't ask for my number
There's no place you can reach me
It's all falling down
It's all coming asunder
Sugar Cookie, oh
You're not all that great
No Sugar Cookie
You're not all that great
You're not all that great
No
No
No
You're not all that great
Don't ask for my number
There's no place you can reach me

I walk down your street
With a smile painted upon my face
Though you know I'll always be alone
I'll have the Bat to find me a home
That home is Gotham City, it brings a smile to my face
Gotham P.D. says they wanna put me under lock and key
But don't they know I'm all the laughter they'll ever need?
I'm the one who laughs
But I have a feeling you'll get the last laugh
I don't like the sky
It always seems like it's gonna rain
I hate the birds and the planes:
They get to fly around, and I always stay the same
Don't let my smile fool you
My good day would be bombing an Elementary School
The Bat says he was robbed,
Of his good friend Jason Todd
Your towns and women I hope to rape
I do this while the whole world calls me the Harlequin of Hate
And they're all out to kill me
But it's alright with me
If you've gotta go, go with a smile
(SOLO)
The Detective said he'd throw me out to sea just for being me
Just like he should
And to this I say:
"Bye bye Bats, it's been a blast"
The good people said they'd throw me in the woods
With nothing but my laughter and a red hood
And to this I say:
"Bye bye good people, but let this clown have his day"

"Bye bye Bats, it's been a blast"
The good people said they'd throw me in the woods
With nothing but my laughter and a red hood
And to this I say:
"Bye bye good people, but let this clown have his day"
let me guess since "the joker" by the steve miller band is a great song, you decided to use the title "the joker" and have the song be about the joker from batman;)

No. I found an old Batman comic book of mine buried in my closet. Inspiration struck.

Few things are as certain
As when life takes its final curtain
And few things will never go out
Like my love and my personal doubts
But you can bet only so much on me
My love is as certain as the leaves falling off the trees

Half of a new verse I wrote 5 minutes ago to a new song....
Drive by that house, it's there too
I smell it in there,
I smell it on the air
Father is in the chair doing what he does best
Mom is on the phone,
but she has a knife to her chest
Once again, using my own life as a reflection to songs. Partly based on my father, who I'd consider an alcoholic...."it" is of course alcohol. And I don't mean a literal knife, I mean knife in a metaphorical sense of the knife being alcohol too, you're threatening yourself with drink which I feared for my own mom because of my dad's ways. I always feared she'd deal with my father by drinking, but she never did.
